In sunny conditions at Notts Golf Club, Cormac Sharvin claimed the Brabazon Trophy by a single stroke from Gavin Moynihan.
Sharvin joins the likes of Sandy Lyle, Ronan Rafferty and Charl Schwartzel as past winners of the trophy which was being held for a record fifth time at Notts Golf Club.

With the course baked in June sunshine, the scoring on the final day was impressive with sub-70 scores for English Amateur Champion Nick Marsh, Ben Amor, Paul Kinnear, USA’s Charlie Danielson and a best score of the week equalling 66 from Moynihan of The Island Golf Club.
Moynihan’s 66 contained 6 birdies and an eagle at the par-5 6th hole. His total of 282 (-6) was the clubhouse lead for the majority of the afternoon with Sharvin required to play the last 7 holes in faultless style to win the trophy.
With around 200 spectators following Sharvin in the final group the pressure was on the golfer from Ardglass. After finding the left hand rough off the tee, Sharvin played his approach towards the green which he later stated “was straight down the flag” but with adrenaline flowing the approach bounded over the green before hitting the clubhouse and bouncing back into play. From here Sharvin played a delicate 40 foot chip to just a couple of feet before holing the crucial par putt which was enough to take the title.
Claiming The George Henriques Salver for the best score by a GB&I golfer aged 20 and younger was Lindrick Golf Club’s Jonathan Thomson. Thomson joins a long list of greats to have claimed this title including world number 1 golfer Rory McIlroy who shared the salver with Jamie Abbott in 2006 at Ganton Golf Club. Thomson will be hoping for more scores similar to his 9 birdie 66 in the third round.

With six Irish players making the top-11 at The Brabazon, the team could have a very green look to it due to the abundance of talent on display from the Emerald Isle.
