Rickie Fowler has been named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, following an impressive first full season on Tour which culminated in a call up to the United States Ryder Cup team.

Fowler, 21, became the youngest player to receive the accolade since Tiger Woods won the award in 1996 at the age of 20.

Fowler finished 32nd in the Fedex Cup standings, and recorded seven top-10 finishes in 28 starts on the Tour, including runners-up finishes in the Phoenix Open and the Memorial Tournament. He also broke into the world’s top-25 on the Official World Golf Rankings after beginning the season in 249th place.

“Rickie made an immediate splash on the Tour this year and is one of the many rising young stars that look to challenge players such as Jim Furyk in the coming years,” PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem said.
