Teeing off on the Red Sea Riviera really is one of golf’s unique experiences. With an all-year-round sunny climate, breathtaking views of the Desert Mountains and the reef-dotted coastline, a superb range of hotels and golf courses that are as testing as they are aesthetically pleasing, the Red Sea is on track to become of the world’s leading golf holidays destinations.
Even though golf has been played in Egypt for over 100 years, it’s not been until recently that the country has expanded and developed into the golfing paradise it is today – enabling it to attract some of the best known names in the game, such as Fred Couples and Gary Player, to construct state-of-the-art golf courses and resorts.
Taba Heights Golf Club was designed by John Sandford, a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and responsible for a number of highly regarded golf courses spread across the globe.
One of the major golf attractions (and a Your Golf Travel customer favourite) in Egypt is Taba Heights – a Troon managed 18-hole Championship Golf Course which is currently rated as the No.3 golf course in Egypt and has even previously been ranked as one of the top 100 golf courses in the world!
Nestled between the Red Sea and a remarkable mountain range, Taba Heights offers all who play it an exhilarating round of golf. It has a number of gently sloping elevations which can range from 4 to 70 meters above sea level! Due to the challenging terrain, the Golf Resort management introduced the compulsory usage of golf carts for all players – these golf carts are complementary.
Each hole has five sets of tees and three holes run alongside the waves of the Red Sea.
From the back tees the course measures a lengthy of 7,100 yards from the first tee to the 18th green; however with five sets of tee boxes on every hole, you have the option to choose the length you would like to tackle Taba Heights at.
Golfers looking to take on the challenge that Taba Heights provides should expect many target fairways and approach shots over lakes, flood canals or wells surrounded by desert green complexes. Badly struck shots can be harshly punished and good shots often get well rewarded, meaning that the Taba Heights Golf Resort course is a true test of the sport in a breathtaking setting.
A trio of glistening lakes, as well as a large number of sand traps, natural desert areas, and raised fairways will test the abilities of golfers of all standards to their fullest extent.
Its subtly sloping fairways make full use of the sea and mountain views – so stunning views are to be expected from just about anywhere you find yourself on this desert layout.
The opening six holes head away from the clubhouse in the direction on the hills with the par-5 6th a long, uphill test which spans three separate playing areas. The course then turns back towards the hotels along the coast where the dog-legged 14th is known to be the longest hole in Egypt – measuring a hefty 640 yards from the championship tees!
The design of the clubhouse at Taba Heights is similar to that of traditional Egyptian architecture.
