Featuring the likes of Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Paul Lawrie and the next European Ryder Cup Captain, Paul McGinley, the Zone Golf Charity Shootout is a brand new event set to take off in 2013. The Zone Golf Charity Shootout launches what is anticipated to be a high profile annual golfing fixture using the new and exciting concept that is Zone Golf.

What is Zone Golf I hear you say?

Zone Golf is a fast paced, strategic, risk versus reward version of golf played over 9 par 3 holes. The green on each of the nine holes is divided into three coloured sections, each with its own pin and each progressively more difficult to find from the tee.

The Green section is the easy choice and players who take this option are rewarded with 3 points should they find their target. Hitting the Amber section is worth 6 points and the Red, the toughest of the three is worth 9. Additional points are awarded depending on your score at the hole as well. Bogies are worth a point, pars 2, birdies 3 and an ace bags you 4 points.

To speed up play balls can be picked up when no points can be scored and the winning player is simply the one with the highest points tally after 9 holes.

The Zone Golf Charity Shootout will see four two-man teams, each including one world class professional golfer and a celebrity partner take square off in knockout tournament. Each pair will be looking to progress through Round 1 into the Semi Finals and then on into the Grand Final where they will compete for a hefty sum of cash that will be donated to a charity of choice.

Each match will be contested over 9 par 3 holes and ties will be settled by sudden death playoffs. Total prize money totals £250,000 with £50,000 going to each of the losing teams charity of choice and the remaining £100,000 going to the winner’s charity of choice.

*Tournament format subject to change by the Zone Golf Committee*

Due to the strategic nature of the Zone Golf format and the potential matchplay-like pressure that comes with being forced to follow your opponent into the Red Zone, as well as the amount of money on the line, the Zone Golf Charity Shootout will make for great viewing. If watching some of the best golfers in the world pair up with Celebrity partners and go head to head all in an effort to raise money for various charities sounds good to you then head down to Dukes Meadows in Chiswick on Bank Holiday Monday the 27th May.
