Tiger Woods might have failed in his quest to win a fifth Green Jacket at last week’s US Masters, but the latest incarnation of the Electronic Arts golf game which bears his name has become the series’ biggest seller.

The previous record holder in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf series was PGA Tour ’08 (pictured), but the latest incarnation, PGA Tour ’12: The Masters has sold almost a quarter-million copies in its first week of release alone – 17% more than ’08, according to gaming blog, Gamasutra.

With versions of the game available for iPhone and iPad, as well as Nintendo Wii, Xbox 260 and Playstation 3, the game has seem more than 184million logged shots by players taking part in more than 7million games since it was released on March 29th in the US, and April 1st in the UK.

The game has also seen more than 2million rounds at Augusta National alone, which has been added to the series for the first time.

The latest game’s cover art is also the first not to feature Tiger’s likeness on the game box – a consequence of his much publicised personal life in November 2010, but EA have promised that Woods won’t be ostracised from future releases.

Have you played Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’12: The Masters yet? What do you think of it?
