So what are the reasons to go to the Ryder Cup? As one of sport’s most-watched events, The Ryder Cup, draws fans, both in-person and on television sets across the globe.

Taking place on rotation in Europe and The USA, the event draws a passionate crowd of golf fans to watch the spectacle unfold. With 45,000 spectators attending each day, the atmosphere is electric and the golf across the three days is one that matches that level time and time again.

Host courses of The Ryder Cup in recent years have been selected for their excellent transport links and viewing for fans. Whether that is The Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor with its rolling hills in the Usk Valley or The 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits courtesy of the huge sand dunes that Pete Dye sculpted to create a links style golf course in Wisconsin.

With practice starting earlier in the week, there are opportunities to see the teams warm-up ahead of the matches with pairings beginning to form and tweaks made to ensure they get the order right ahead of the foursome and fourball matches on Friday and Saturday before the singles on Sunday.

The Fans

The Ryder Cup is a wild and vibrant spectacle, unlike any other golf event you’ve ever seen. It’s a delightful mix of class and chaos, where the players are the stars and the fans are the spirited supporting cast. Without them, the Ryder Cup simply wouldn’t be the Ryder Cup.

Picture this: thousands upon thousands of fans, all gathered together, creating an electric atmosphere that crackles with excitement. It’s like stepping into a costume party where everyone is dressed to the nines, except you. You know that feeling, right? That moment when you realize you’re the only one not in on the fun? Well, that’s the Ryder Cup in a nutshell.

Take a look around at the spectators, and you’ll instantly know which side they’re rooting for. They wear their allegiance proudly, with outfits that scream their support. It’s a sea of colors and chants, a visual representation of the fierce competition unfolding on the course.

The Quality of Golf

The golf at the Ryder Cup is simply mind-blowing. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. The intensity, the passion, it’s off the charts. But you know what makes it even more incredible? It’s the match-play format. It’s a game that doesn’t just encourage, it demands that players go all out, be fearless, and never let up. There’s no room for playing it safe here, it’s all about taking risks, going all in, and hoping for the best.

That’s the beauty of the Ryder Cup. It’s a stage where crazy things happen. It’s where legends are made, where underdogs rise to the occasion, and where the impossible becomes possible. So buckle up, because when it comes to the Ryder Cup, you better expect the unexpected. It’s a wild ride that will leave you breathless and begging for more.

The Camaraderie

In the world of golf, there’s a common misconception that the sport lacks the vibrant personalities and captivating character found in other sports. But that couldn’t be further from the truth when it comes to the Ryder Cup. This extraordinary event takes golf to a whole new level, infusing it with passion, camaraderie, and an electric atmosphere that will leave you breathless.

Picture this: once every two years, the world’s greatest golfers set aside their individual pursuits and come together as a team, representing their respective countries. It’s a week-long extravaganza where the stakes are high, and the intensity is palpable. These players aren’t just swinging their clubs for personal glory; they’re fighting tooth and nail for the honor of their nation.

Every shot becomes a matter of life and death, as the players wear their hearts on their sleeves, their emotions pouring out with every swing. And the energy of the crowd is infectious. The cheers, the roars, the chants of support reverberate through the air, fueling the players’ determination and pushing them to new heights.

But here’s the real kicker: when a player finishes their match, their job is far from done. No, they don’t retreat to the clubhouse to bask in their own glory. Instead, they wrap themselves in their country’s flag and venture out to the course, rallying behind their teammates who are still battling it out in other matches. It’s a display of unity, of unwavering support, and it’s truly awe-inspiring.

The Ryder Cup is an event that has the power to bring even the toughest competitors to tears. The sheer magnitude of representing their country, the weight of the hopes and dreams of an entire nation resting on their shoulders, it’s enough to make even the most stoic golfer crack. You just can’t fake that kind of raw emotion.

So, the next time someone tries to tell you that golf lacks personality or character, point them in the direction of the Ryder Cup. It’s a spectacle that showcases the very best of the sport, where individualism takes a backseat to teamwork, and where the triumphs and heartbreaks are etched into the memories of players and fans alike. The Ryder Cup is a testament to the power of unity, passion, and the indomitable spirit of golf.

Risk & Reward

The players who qualify for the 2025 Ryder Cup will need to prepare for a challenge like no other, this legendary course, which has hosted the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009, is renowned for pushing even the most skilled golfers to their limits.

The layout is truly a work of art, showcasing the genius of its designer, A.W. Tillinghast. The course is adorned with his signature bunkers, each one strategically placed to test the golfer’s skills and challenge decision-making.

Bethpage Black a difficult course

Bethpage Black Key Holes

Key Par 3’s

The 8th hole is a downhill beauty, with a pond just before the green adding a touch of challenge. Oh, and the lone tree on the right seems to have a magical pull on tee shots!

The 17th hole is a real stunner, with the most bunkers on the entire course. The green is like a little island, elevated and surrounded by sand traps. It’s quite a sight from the tee, and if you manage to walk away with a par, it’s even more rewarding.

Key Par 4’s

The amazing 5th hole at Bethpage Black. is a double dogleg par four, which is pretty rare in golf. The fairway slopes from left to right, and there’s a big bunker and trees waiting for any shots that go too far to the right. If you tee off on the left side, you might be able to shorten the hole, but it’ll also partially block the green and require a high-draw shot. It’s a beautiful hole with lots of options and risks, and the rewards are totally worth it.

Hole 2 can be a bit tricky because of the elevated green, but it’s a sub-400 yard par four that doesn’t need a driver off the tee. Plus, the green is super flat, so we may see quite a few birdies here.

Key Par 5’s

The 4th hole at Bethpage is regarded by many as the best par five design by Tillinghast. The bunkering is just beautiful and the double dogleg is reachable in two shots, but will require great accuracy to climb the hill and find the elevated green.

The 13th hole is the only par 5 on the back nine and if the conditions are right, will be reachable in two. The fairway is one of the narrowest at Bethpage so if missed may see the players lay up.
