The Kittocks Course Reopens At Fairmont St Andrews

By March 31, 2010No Comments

Kittocks CourseFairmont St Andrews, a leading resort at the ‘Home of Golf’, this week announced the reopening of The Kittocks Course, a revision of which was included in the massive £17 million overhaul that was recently completed at the property.

Following the opening in late summer 2009 of the reworked Torrance Course, attention turned to what was formerly called the resort’s Devlin Course, named after its original creator, Bruce Devlin. The operation involved pinching two holes from the old Torrance, the closing hole and the phenomenal 17th, a hole dubbed ‘Sam’s Favourite’ that runs along the cliffs above St Andrews Bay.

The purpose of the project was to elevate the two golf courses on the five-star St Andrews resort to an equally impressive level, and although the stunning Torrance Course will host Open Championship Final Qualifying, The Kittocks should not be viewed as its inferior sibling.

Views of the striking Fairmont St Andrews hotel inland are contrasted by the setting looking out, across the bay, towards St Andrews itself, the ‘auld grey toun’; there are few places in the United Kingdom where golfers can enjoy such spectacular coastal golf in similar surroundings, and the partnership of The Kittocks and The Torrance affords Fairmont St Andrews enviable variety.

The hotel and resort did not escape the sweeping arm of the regeneration programme implemented by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts; the immediately recognisable property, perched prominently on the cliff top, has enjoyed a huge advancement in the quality of accommodation and facilities, led by the implementation of a sparkling new luxury spa.

Brought together, these monumental improvements help to underscore the capacity of Fairmont St Andrews to offer almost unrivalled potential for golf and leisure breaks in and around St Andrews. With two splendid courses onsite, first class packages are available to experience the resort’s residential offerings and also to tackle some of the area’s best links golf; popular choices include Kingsbarns, a close neighbour of the resort, and also The Old Course, where low season deals with guaranteed tee times hold particular appeal.
