The golf is the draw, played in the kind of scenery that makes a Tuscan golf break worth the flight. Between tee times, the resort keeps you busy without leaving the grounds. There are two tennis courts, two padel courts, a five-a-side football pitch and a couple of jogging trails, plus a gym kitted out with Technogym equipment for a pre-round loosen-up. If you have played 36 holes and your back is letting you know about it, the wellness side of the resort is there for a welcome reset before dinner.
Food is a big part of the trip here. Dama Dama Restaurant is the gourmet choice for a celebration after a good round, while the Club House Restaurant keeps things relaxed with simple, creative dishes built around local produce. Either way, you can settle in for a long post-round meal without needing a taxi.

Argentario, with its par-71, 18-hole course and excellent practice facilities, is the only PGA licensed golf facility in Italy and is a visually striking course which, unusually, is suitable for play all year round. The course is surrounded by cork and olive trees in a geographically protected oasis, and it's an area that also enjoys an exceptionally mild climate.
The course was designed by renowned architect David Mezzacane, with input from former European tour professional Baldovino Dassù. It is located in Maremma, one of the most fascinating areas of Tuscany and part of the peninsula of Monte Argentario. The beaches of Feniglia and Giannella are close by and you can even reach the centre of Rome in around 90 minutes, while Siena is about an hour away.
The course itself is a gem with small greens that can be tricky to find if the prevailing breeze decided to blow stronger than usual. To score well over this testing layout you will be required to play with considerable precision as well as length.
The course enjoys fine views across the valley to the open sea, the Orbetello lagoon and the hills of the Maremma in the distance. The undulating terrain, extensive use of water hazards and rough provide an enjoyable challenge for most ability levels, although this is not a track for beginners.
The 330-yard driving range has 24 stations, 12 of which are covered, while there's also extensive chipping and putting areas adjacent to the course.
The look here is clean and contemporary, built around black and white colour schemes, warm oak flooring and designer furniture. The public areas set the standard and the bedrooms follow suit, with a private terrace or balcony in every category and modern comforts throughout, including internet access and a TV in each room.
There are 7 suites, 55 junior suites and 11 superior rooms, so there is a fit for most budgets and group types. The seven suites are the top tier, each with its own style and theme, plus large solarium terraces and views over the course and the Orbetello lagoon. If you want extra space and a real sense of occasion, they are the ones to go for, particularly for a special birthday or a milestone trip with a close pairing.
Junior suites are the largest group, spread across three levels of the resort, and every one looks out over the golf course towards the lagoon. They suit couples and golfing pairs who want room to spread out and a good view without stepping up to a full suite. Superior rooms are the most compact option, but still stylish and comfortable, with terraces overlooking the course. They make a smart base for golfers who plan to spend most of the day outside and just want a quality bed to come back to.
When it comes to eating, you have two venues to play with. Dama Dama Restaurant is the more refined of the pair, the place to make an evening of it with gourmet cuisine after a good round. The Club House Restaurant is more informal and suits the rhythm of a golf day, whether that is a quick lunch before the back nine or a relaxed dinner with the group, with particular attention paid to local produce.
Away from the fairways, the resort has plenty to keep a mixed group happy. Two tennis courts and two padel courts are ideal for a bit of friendly competition, the five-a-side pitch is handy for settling scores from the first tee, and the jogging trails give early risers a chance to clear the head before breakfast. The Technogym-equipped gym rounds things off, and it is worth a visit if you want to work out the kinks before heading to the first tee.

The genaral hotel is looking very tired. The decking ouside (acres of it) has screws protruding and some boards are loose and uneven. It is a definite trip hazard. The rooms have very little wardrobe and drawer space although they did provide an extra chest of drawers on request. WiFi in the rooms was slow and sometimes unavailable. The spa and pool area had several facilities not working - the water jet massage beds, the mineral pools and the ladies steam room an sauna- ladies were asked to use the men's facilities for these treatments. A member a staff told us these treatments had not been available for over a year and no attempt had been made to repair them. Breakfast was poor for a hotel of 5 star rating. Reception staff were excellent and helpfull and the general ambiance and setting of the hotel was superb. We only ate once at the Dama Dama restaurant.I had salt sea bass and my wife had turbot. Both portions were miniscule, tasteless and had a sauce even Mr Heinz would not entertain. We did not return but ate instead at the golf club restaurant which was superb in every way. The hotel is well overdue for a refit!!

Superb challenging course suffering as all courses are from a lack of rain. Brilliant views across the bay and mountains. The club restaurant was marvellous with excellent food at sensible prices served by delightful staff.

We played 3 rounds and lost a lot of balls! A tricky course with rough and water and bunkers. But very enjoyable.
