The Cambridge Hotel & Golf Club were easy to find & signposted near to the venue. Arrived early for our golf break in case of traffic & had quick coffee before tee time. Service was good, pro shop helpful & well stocked.
Teed off on time in wet conditions, overnight rain & rain for the day meant a few puddles on greens which were expected under those conditions. Course was in very good condition, greens smooth & faster than my club, ball rolled well on them, also nice & receptive. Some of the holes had ditches that were in range for my wife which made it a little longer to play than the scorecard suggests as some lay ups were required with tee shots. Got stuck behind 3 groups of part golfers & part beginners which meant we took nearly 2 & half hours to play 7 holes, which was not pleasant in wet conditions. Managed to jump to the 11th tee from the eighth & finished the round very comfortably. Quite a bit of traffic noise on the first few holes due to wet roads & spray.
Checked in early & was surprised to find that our room was ready. Check in very prompt & helpful.Used leisure facilities after checking in to try & warm up & unwind. Nice pool & steam room, good showers & facilities, clean & tidy.
Bar prices a bit steep £6.90 for a pint of Magners & half a Guinness & blackcurrant.Evening meal was a carvery as it was a Sunday although options were available.Food was very good with an excellent selection of veg & sides to compliment. There were certainly no complaints with the quality or the service - very friendly.
Bed was comfy & got good night’s sleep, no noisy guests to keep us awake which was nice.Breakfast was equally impressive & again good selection, service & quality.Check out smooth & efficient, all above board. We played the eighteen in better conditions on the Monday & a lot better pace of play.
Overall an enjoyable stay & would certainly like to play the course again in drier conditions.
