Copenhagen Golf Club - Denmark

Copenhagen Golf Club

Copenhagen Golf Club, often referred to as Royal Copenhagen Golf Club, is more than just a course; it's a historical gem and a golfing experience that is simply unique. As the oldest golf club in Scandinavia, founded in 1898, you’ll be playing a round on a course steeped in history and tradition.

The course is set within the protected, scenic, and idyllic natural surroundings of the Dyrehaven nature reserve, which was historically a royal hunting ground. Playing here is an enchanting experience, with narrow fairways and a traditional English style design that has been thoughtfully preserved and updated. It’s a beautifully balanced course, demanding strategic play as much as technical skill, and one that is enjoyed by golfers of all handicaps.

The course is located on the northern Eremitageslette in Dyrehaven, a nature reserve that has been a royal hunting estate for over 200 years. The current 18-hole course was created in 1928, making it Denmark’s first 18-hole course, and its original design was in the traditional English style. Major renovations in 2008-2009 by architect Tom Mackenzie of Mackenzie & Ebert revamped every tee, bunker, and green surround to keep the test of golf contemporary while respecting the original character.

The defining characteristic is the peaceful parkland setting, where you play on summer greens year-round amongst herds of deer, giving it a magical feel. The course's undulating terrain presents a gentle challenge, with greens that were extended to create more variety of pin positions. It's a place where strategic thought and course management are key to scoring well, surrounded by a serene atmosphere free from the noise of the nearby city.
