Cottesmore Golf & Country Club is set across 247 acres of woodland and parkland in rural West Sussex, and it's exactly the sort of place that works for a hassle-free UK golf break. You've got golf, rooms, lodges, food and a health club all in one spot, so once you arrive you can basically park the car and focus on the important stuff.
Golf-wise, there are 27 holes on-site across two layouts, giving you enough variety for a weekend without repeating the same nine twice. Expect classic Sussex parkland with tree-lined corridors, well-placed bunkers and a few holes where you'll want to think your way around rather than just lash driver. Places like this are great for groups because it keeps everyone together and makes organising tee times, food and a bit of post-round downtime far easier.
Off the course, you've got 21 bedrooms in converted estate buildings, plus seven self-catering lodges right on the golf course for groups who want more space. Add in the pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room and you've got a strong "golf plus recovery" set-up for 36-hole days.
If you're putting together a West Sussex golf break, Cottesmore is one to shortlist for convenience, facilities and a resort feel without being overly formal. Speak to us about building it into your next UK golf break.

The Griffin Course is the premier layout at Cottesmore, and is a genuine test of both skill and strategy. The predominant characteristics are the tight fairways, guarded by the mature woodland of the estate, and the small greens. This combination demands accuracy above all else, but the relatively short length of 6,248 ensures that the Griffin is manageable for all standards of golfers. Highlights are the short second and the penultimate hole, both of which demand well-struck iron shots over water.
The neighbouring 9 Hole Phoenix Course is the smaller of the two courses and offers a great introduction to golf. Regarded as Cottesmore's ‘second course' it has a splendid layout, bordered by the rhododendrons and woodland of this stunning landscape. Although some of the holes are easier than the Griffin there are also some challenging holes to test for the more complete golfer. The Phoenix is equally well maintained and is slightly more forgiving due to its more open fairways, which results in an extremely enjoyable challenge.
The accommodation at Cottesmore comes from the original country house setting and converted farm buildings, so it has a more characterful, rural feel than a standard chain hotel. There are 21 guest rooms, all individually styled in a traditional manner that fits the estate rather than fighting it. If you're coming down from London for a quick weekend, it's the sort of place that feels like a genuine break, not just a bed between tee times.
Each room has been designed to reflect the original character of the buildings, with thoughtful touches that make the space feel personal. You're not getting cookie-cutter corporate interiors here, you're getting rooms that suit the setting and the pace of a golf break in the Sussex countryside.
For groups and longer stays, the seven self-catering lodges sit on the golf course and give you extra space and flexibility. They're ideal if your society likes to do things on its own schedule or if you'd rather spread out, stock the fridge and keep the evening informal. The lodges work particularly well for groups who want to make a long weekend of it without the structure of hotel dining times.
One of Cottesmore's big strengths is what you can do after golf. The health club includes a swimming pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna, which is exactly what you want when you've walked 18 or 36 holes. The pool is a decent size for swimming rather than just splashing about, and the hot tub, steam room and sauna provide the kind of recovery options that make a difference after a long day on the course.
There's also an on-site spa offering treatments that suit a relaxed weekend away, particularly if you're travelling as a couple or mixing golf with downtime. The on-site spa is a handy add-on if you want to turn a golf weekend into a reset, with massage options that suit post-round recovery.
If you like to keep your routine going, the gym has a good range of cardio kit and free weights, so it works for a quick session before teeing off or a loosener the morning after. It's not a token facility, it's a well-equipped space that gets used.
Food and drink revolves around the Phoenix Bar and Restaurant, with big views across the Griffin course and a modern British, locally sourced menu that's relaxed rather than formal. The setting is light and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows that make the most of the course views. It's a comfortable spot for a post-round pint, a meal and a bit of card-school chat before you do it all again the next day. The menu focuses on locally sourced ingredients prepared in a modern British gastro style, nothing overly complicated but done well. It's the kind of place where you can settle in for the evening without feeling like you need to head elsewhere for a decent meal or a drink.

We had a wonderful time celebrating my husbands 50th eventhough we missed our first round of golf due to Heavy rain, everyone was very helpful, because of the weddings it is NOISY until late and drunk people smoking everywhere THAT is probably why the houskeeping lady dared to nick my husbands AirPods from the table when cleaning Friday, expecting he would be thinking ”ahhh I probably left them in the bar”he didn’t use them any other than on the plane ride there and leaving saturday it was NOWHERE to be found, back in Sweden we have turned inside out at our luggage so this is unfortunately our conclusion, they were 1:st generation Apple AirPods and not ”worth” anything BUT still this is serious for you as a golf&country club!

The rooms are very modern and comfortable but to get around the hotel and bars you need to go outside, it was a rainy day and evening and the stairs were very slippery. Bathroom tiny but good The food was excellent and service and staff brilliant. Shout out to Helen and Car, thank you.

Much easier course than Griffin. Is only 9 holes so you play it twice.

The course is challenging but was in remarkably good condition despite the heatwaves. Signage from hole to hole is not frequent enough. It's easy to get lost which slows the pace of play

Golf Travel ought to advise customers that the course is long and buggies are recommended for older players. Early booking is essential as there were none available !!!

Not happy with this course. There was a group of 26 in front of ys, who I assume were told to play in smaller groups. They instead chose to play in groups of 5/6, without letting anyone play though. This ment at 7:15 we were only at hole 12 and had to give up or we missed dinner. They were also smoking cannabis on course when we told hotel staff they came out on golf buggy to speak to them

Very pretty course but again quite muddy in places. Only 9 holes but a very nice round. Again a few holes with a bit of distance between them!

Very enjoyable round although fairways a bit wet because of recent heavy rain. Quite a lot of long walks between holes which made the round longer than normal but still enjoyable. Lovely course.
