Donnington Golf Course

The 18-hole course, located 2 minutes from the hotel, is a true gem of Berkshire. Spread across 6,221 yards, it follows the natural landscape, weaving between mature trees and water features that come into play at just the right moments. The front nine offers chances to score, while the final four holes turn the dial up - the kind of finish where a good round can become unforgettable. And then there’s our iconic 15th hole, the ‘Big Dipper’. At over 500 yards, it’s as much about patience as power.

The proximity of the tremendous clubhouse at the end of each loop makes for a superb amphitheatre to welcome your comrades home during your golf break, corporate or society outing at Donnington Valley.

Accommodation at Donnington Hotel, Spa & Golf

The Grade II listed Snelsmore House stands proudly overlooking the 9th and 18th greens, setting the tone for what awaits inside. Beyond the clubhouse, the hotel is built around comfort and space. Each of the 111 bedrooms blends clean, contemporary design with thoughtful details: Egyptian cotton linens, marble bathrooms and enough room to actually relax. If you're after a bit more, the suites and executive rooms step things up with generous seating areas and extra touches that make a difference after a long day on the course.

Rooms are modern, comfortable and well set up for a golf break, with plenty of space to spread out after a round. If you're making a weekend of it, the executive rooms and suites add extra seating space, which is ideal for groups and couples who want a bit more breathing room. The hotel strikes the right balance between contemporary comfort and country charm, and it's an easy place to switch off after 18 holes.

After your round, head to Press, the hotel's restaurant, where the kitchen focuses on seasonal British cooking done well. The menu balances comforting classics with dishes that showcase local ingredients, all supported by a wine list that's been put together with care rather than just ticking boxes. It's the kind of place where you can settle in for a long dinner with your group, swap stories about the round and enjoy food that feels both familiar and special.

If unwinding is what you're after, the spa is one of the finest in Berkshire and a genuine highlight of any stay. The 18-metre lap pool is ideal for loosening up after 18 holes, while the aromatherapy room, sauna and steam room give you options to restore tired legs and clear your head. The treatment menu is built around quality products and skilled therapists who know what they're doing, all delivered in a space where you can genuinely switch off. Even if golf isn't your thing, the spa alone is reason enough to book a visit.

Great rooms, food and spa

The hotel was fabulous, maybe a tad too good for my crew of gentlemen.

Nice hotel with comfy rooms. Restaurant and food were very good with great staff too. Sadly didn't get to see or use any of the spa facilities as our round of golf on the Saturday was very delayed and we checked into the hotel much later than expected.

Brilliant overnight stay. Lovely hotel, excellent staff, brilliant facilities - and the best flat iron steak I’ve had. The WiFi was very weak in my room, the only negative.

We regard this as a better than average hotel and would certainly go back again.

The hotel was very nice, clean with comfortable rooms and bar area, the outside dining area was lovely with a varied good menu.

We enjoyed our stay at Donnington . The golf course was in good order, could do with a few more signs on the course to help players who have not played there before especially for the ladies tees. The hotel was great, and the rooms had air conditioning which was a big bonus as it was very hot when we stayed. Our only complaint was that they wanted to charge a service charge to bring our drinks to the table in the restaurant which we didn’t feel was right, especially as wine in particular was already very expensive. Having said that we had a very enjoyable weekend and would recommend it to others.

Great course, a mix of tougher/longer holes and also some good birdie opportunities. Played at the peak of summer so fairways were very dry but not down to the course management at all- greens were still excellent and all bunkers/tee boxes etc. Worked well with our group consisting of a range of handicaps 0-36.

Due to the adverse hot weather, we found the fairway with no green grass, which made the ball run on forever. At times, the balls ran across not just one hole but two, no matter how much you compensated for it. I would love to play this course in better condition.

Course condition was awful with the exception of the greens and tee boxes. Fairways were like playing off of concrete, except they were almost all sloping so impossible to get your ball to stop anywhere. You'd hit what should be a good tee shot but then be punished by not being able to find your ball because it has run down a slope for half a mile in the opposite direction to where you hit it. Several holes overlapping and almost sharing the same sloped fairways meant that there were players and balls everywhere and it became quite dangerous. Bunkers were also not being raked at all. To top it all off, the round on the Saturday took almost 6 hours because of how busy the course was and the difficult conditions mentioned above. Very disappointing and frustrating after looking forward to this booking for months.

Stunning golf course, unfortunately hindered by the scorching weather - given it’s quite a hilly course, with the floor so dry the ball rolled for miles. But will definitely return when the grounds are restored.

the tees and greens were good. the bunkers so so but the fairways were baked/gone. It looks a good layout but not good value given the condition and i would not recommend the course to customers until the autumn..

The fairways were hard as a rock, butt greens and tees very good.

Due to the very hot, dry conditions the ball was running off of the fairways but the course was an enjoyable test. The only downside is that as a golf venue, the range of food available is very poor, when you travel some distance to a venue you would expect to be able to get a breakfast or cooked food but all they supply is sausage rolls warmed up. They really should do better

Lots of drop off with balls running under trees, the par 3’s were challenging but very enjoyable rounds of golf. Could do with a few more signs to indicate tees especially for ladies.

Excellent

Great venue, well organised conditions dictated the course difficulty due to sun baked and significantly sloping fairways. Greens in great condition, the only fault was in respect to no practice area availability with only a single net in use and putting green available.
