Set on 10 acres of Perthshire countryside and less than a mile from Dunblane rail station, Apex Dunblane Hydro is a handy base if you want proper Scottish scenery without feeling cut off. You're close to Stirling's big-ticket sights too, with Stirling Castle and the National Wallace Monument both an easy hop away if you're mixing golf with a bit of history.
Back at the hotel, the leisure club is a real perk for golfers. There's an indoor pool, sauna and steam room for loosening up after a long walk, plus a fitness room if you fancy keeping the swing muscles ticking over. When you're done, head to the Lounge Bar or Stuart Lounge, grab a seat by the windows and take in the views across the lawns and surrounding hills.
Golf-wise, the headline act is Gleneagles, roughly 15 minutes away. You get three famous names on the scorecard in one trip, with James Braid behind the King's and Queen's and Jack Nicklaus designing the PGA Centenary Course, host of the 2014 Ryder Cup. If you're the sort who likes ticking off iconic venues, this is a very easy way to do it without paying resort rates to sleep on site.
The location also makes it a practical base for exploring the wider Perthshire golf scene, with the University of Stirling's Airthrey Golf Course and other regional options within easy reach. After a day on the fairways, the on-site wellness facilities, including the pool and steam room, offer a proper wind-down before dinner.

The Apex Dunblane Hydro offers a well-rounded selection of rooms designed to suit solo travellers, couples, families and groups. Guest rooms come in single, double, twin and deluxe configurations, each finished in a modern, comfortable style with warm tones and inviting furnishings that make it easy to settle in after a long day on the course or exploring the local area.
Deluxe rooms offer a bit more space and upgraded amenities, whilst family rooms are configured to accommodate larger groups without feeling cramped. The layout and variety make the hotel particularly well suited to golf societies and mixed-ability groups who need flexibility in room types and the ability to gather in communal spaces like the Stuart Lounge or Cocktail Bar.
For golfers, the hotel strikes a good balance between comfort and practicality. Rooms are well appointed without being overly formal, and the on-site leisure facilities, including the indoor pool, sauna and steam room, give you somewhere to recover after walking 36 holes at Gleneagles or tackling the slopes of the King's Course. The fitness room is there if you want to keep up with your routine, though most guests will find the pool and steam room more appealing after a round.
Dining centres on The Kailyard, the hotel's signature restaurant helmed by Chef Nick Nairn. The menu focuses on fresh, seasonal Scottish ingredients sourced locally, with dishes prepared daily to reflect what's available. It's the kind of cooking that feels rooted in the landscape around you, with quality produce treated simply and served well. Expect hearty, flavour-driven plates that suit the setting and the appetite you'll have built up on the course.
The Cocktail Bar and Stuart Lounge offer two distinct atmospheres for winding down. The Cocktail Bar is the livelier option, with a well-stocked selection of spirits and a menu of classic and contemporary serves. The Stuart Lounge, by contrast, is quieter and more relaxed, with panoramic views over the rolling lawns and a strong selection of malt whiskies and wines. It's the natural spot to recap the day's golf with a dram in hand, particularly if you've just come off the back nine at Gleneagles and want to relive a few key moments before heading to bed.

Hotel was very busy during our stay as a result of two consecutive wedding parties. Staff coped well and I enjoyed the swimming pool.
