The Eden Course, St Andrews - Fife, Scotland

The Eden Course, St Andrews

The Eden Course at St Andrews is a firm favourite amongst golfers visiting The Home of Golf. The Par-70 links layout was put together by famed course designer Harry Colt. The same designer who was responsible for the likes of Pine Valley, Royal Portrush and Royal County Down.

Measuring just over 6,110 yards, The Eden is a course that features large putting surfaces, great undulations and perilous pot bunkers, all hallmarks of a links course.

Whilst many will head to St Andrews in search of The Old Course, The Eden, along with The New and Jubilee Courses offer a sensational golfing tour that is sure to test every part of your game, especially on a windy day.

Eden Course

Those looking to play to their handicap around The Eden Course at St Andrews are likely to have found the pace and line on the greens. The undulations on offer on the greens are evident across the course with the par-3 5th a particular example of this. Featuring a large tier, those not finding the correct part of the green are in for an incredibly testing 2-putt.

Expect short par-4's that offer good par and birdie opportunities for anyone able to negotiate the many pot bunkers that will be ready to snare any slightly offline or overhit drive.

Whilst The Eden certainly gathers praise amongst the links purists who go to play it each year, it is the quote from 5-time Open Champion Tom Watson that stands out. Watson said of The Eden "The front nine of the Eden Course are some of the best holes in golf!". Few courses could claim that sort of testimonial and as one of the best players of links in the history of golf, who is going to argue with Tom Watson.

Arguably the best value offering in St Andrews, The Eden is a course away from the tourist masses and offers a traditional links experience that so many crave. The course has its own clubhouse, shared with The Strathtyrum which offers a quieter experience for anyone wishing to be away from the hubbub offered by The Old Course, especially in the summer months.

I actually liked this better than the New Course at St. Andrews. It was beautiful and I found the greens to be challenging.
