On arrival and after check in, we were unable to gain access to our room. On returning to reception we were informed that staff had forgotten that ours was a "special" room - the locking system didnt work and so in order to get into our room we woudl have to return to reception and a member of staff escort us to our room and let us in. Every time. We asked for a room change but were told they were fully booked so this was to be our room for two nights. We then booked our dinner (included) but due to slow service had to order 40 minutes after booking, from the bar rather than from the restaurant. The waitress told us that we were lucky to still order as any longer and we'd have missed out but still be charged?! Its half board, we've already paid for the meal?! The hotel is need of some love, its pretty aged although the dining room has been nicely presented (although waiting until breakfast items like bacon have run out before cooking anymore is an odd move given the hotel was fully occupied). Its ok for what it is I guess, cant imagine everyone will have the key card access issued we had but this was a known problem thats apparently been like this for some time - they really should stop booking folks in until is resolved - it didnt help hearing staff tell us that "if it happened to them, they'd go mad".
