Golf Breaks in York

York is one of the few remaining walled cities in the UK and is steeped in fascinating history, it's huge Gothic Cathedral towers over the city and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. With over thirty museums and a great range of bars, cafe's and restaurants, there is enough to keep everyone entertained off the course.

The rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Dales and North York moors provide some beautiful backdrops for the courses in the area. A short drive from York is the seaside resort of Scarborough, with sandy beaches and fantastic scenery it provides a different option to the bustling city of York, a perfect combination for a golf tour of the region.

There is a strong mix of courses in York and Scarborough, the premier course is Ganton GC, famed for hosting the Ryder Cup and The Walker Cup. The course is links in style and provides a great test for any golfer. Another gem and one not to be missed is Fulford GC, located just outside the centre of York, the course celebrated its centenary year in 2006 and has previously featured on the European Tour schedule.

Just North of York sits York Golf Club, the heathland layout isn't long by modern standard, stretching to just over 6,300 yards from the back tees, don't let this fool you, its complexity and design by the great J.H Taylor provide a fantastic challenge for visiting golfers.
