Since opening in 1994, Grayhawk has built a reputation as one of Scottsdale's standout public-access venues, with two championship courses that are well worth the effort if you're making a golf trip to the Valley of the Sun.

You've got 36 holes on site, split across Raptor and Talon. They feel genuinely different underfoot and off the tee, with desert scenery, plenty of strategy from the tee and greens that can bite if you get lazy with your approach play. If you like your golf in great condition with a bit of jeopardy built in, Grayhawk ticks that box.

Raptor is a Tom Fazio design and the sterner test of the two, with classic desert features like natural washes, elevation changes and penalties for anything wildly offline. Talon is still a proper championship track, but it can feel a touch more playable in places, with a slightly softer, less rugged desert look that makes it a smart pairing for mixed-ability groups.

Off the course, you won't go hungry. Isabella's Kitchen is a relaxed spot for organic Italian-style dishes, while Quill Creek Café covers the casual Southwest favourites for a quick bite and going over the damage.

Include Grayhawk in your Scottsdale plans if you want quality, variety and a strong clubhouse scene without needing a resort stay.

Who is this for?
Golfers looking for a high-quality, public-access desert golf experience in Scottsdale, with the option to play two distinct championship courses and enjoy solid dining without needing a resort stay.

Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers who want to test themselves on a Fazio design and appreciate strategic, well-conditioned desert golf, plus groups or societies looking for variety and flexibility in a single location.

Talon Course

Former PGA and US Open champion David Graham teamed up with the esteemed golf architect, Gary Panks, to create the Talon, one of the most exhilarating courses in the south west.

Like its brother, the Talon is included in GOLF Magazine's list of the ‘Top 100 Courses You Can Play', but its character is slightly different; visiting golfers will need pinpoint accuracy to find the demanding fairways and the multi-tiered greens. Blessed with the same remarkable scenery, the Talon is a real highlight of a good golf holiday in the Scottsdale area.

The Raptor Course is certainly the best course open to the public, not only in Scottsdale, but anywhere in Arizona.

Raptor Course

Grayhawk's Raptor Course is now a fully fledged PGA Tour host, welcoming the finest professionals for the Fry's Electronics Open, part of the October Fall Series. Designer Tom Fazio created the Raptor to be a daring game of risk versus reward, constantly challenging both the bravery and skill of its intrepid visitors.

The layout can reach a maximum of 7,221 yards, and is overlooked by the rugged mountains, and bordered by the local landscape's indigenous trees, including Saguaros, Palo Verde, Ironwood and Mesquite. Other accolades include having hosted the Anderson Consulting World Matchplay Championships, showing the outstanding quality of this Scottsdale classic.

We played Grayhawk the week before the NCAA and it was set up the manicured and most difficult our group had ever seen. However we all said what an experience! We all looked at how the Collegiate players did the following week.
