Highbullen Golf & Country Club

The par 68 nine hole course winds its way through the wooded countryside of north Devon and gifts golfers with uncompromising views of Exmoor and Dartmoor throughout the round. Highbullen golf course is shorter than a lot of other courses making it perfect for golfers all abilities and handicaps. However, it does still provide a challenge for the more skilled golfers among your group as it tests a player’s ability to manage a golf course and select the right club.

There are two tee positions on each hole, the Red markers are for higher handicap players with lower handicap golfers playing off the Yellow. Golfers who wish to play a full 18 holes can go around twice with different tee positions on some of the back nine.

The small greens are inviting and reward good approach shots however, the visually impressive bunkers that guard the green await any errant play. Furthermore, the perfectly manicured fairways are undulating and blend in beautifully with the humps of the natural landscape. The course also features a few water hazards with the majority of them coming into play on the short par 3s adding an extra dimension to the already stunning golf holes.

The hotel provides guests with luxurious accommodation during their stay with 2 separate options: The Manor House and The Estate Rooms. Within the Manor House there are 12 individually designed rooms equipped with stylish furniture and an array of modern amenities.

Very Good

We had a problem with our booking being lost. We were allocated a room in an outbuilding which resulted in us getting wet on several occasions. The dinner menu was very limited and did not change by more than 1 or 2 dishes each night over the length of our stay. We would not go back again.

Greens had been hollow tined prior to our arrival. It is a shame the course is going to be reduced from 18 to 9 holes.

Very worthwhile course to play with stunning views. Also very good if new golfers are in tow. The only down was the relatively poor condition of the greens -mainly on the front nine holes. Not enough to spoil the trip however.

Good

The course is attractive and will be beautiful in summer - it needs some loving care & attention - bunkers not great (fortunately only landed in one!!) and the greens were a disaster - being tined was understandable but the general condition and run of them was awful. No pro shop just a counter and some bags of tees! But staff friendly and welcoming as were members you encountered going round and in club house.

The golf was fine but what made the golf break outstanding was the hotel - excellent facilities . location and service. The course is interesting with plenty to think about. Course was well kept but greens lacked quality. The course was busy in the mornings and although the round was slow it gave us plenty of opportunity to absorb the great views and beautiful Devon countryside.

The course was in bad condition. The tees were in very poor condition. Some of he carries for ladies were too long. The rough was of a height that caused you to spend too long looking for balls. The course itself was short but parts were interesting. The reception staffs knowledge of the course was very poor they were more interested in the pool and gym facilities, one person was unaware that there were toilet facilities on the course. We would not go back again.
