Hollins Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club is a handy West Yorkshire base for a proper golf-and-leisure break, set in 200 acres of mature parkland in Shipley, just a short drive from Leeds and Bradford. It's the sort of place that works equally well for a society weekend, a couples' escape or a mixed group where not everyone wants 36 holes a day.
The headline act is the on-site 18-hole course, which hosted PGA Europro events from 2001 to 2003 and still gives you that tournament-venue feel, especially with the Victorian hotel and Shipley viaduct in the background. If you're booking a UK break in the colder months, this is one of the big plus points: the greens often hold up well compared with plenty of courses that get a bit scrappy in winter.
Off the course you've got a full Health and Leisure Club, plus two dining options that make it easy to keep the group together without hunting for taxis. Hollins Hall is now part of the Britannia Hotels group (it was formerly a Marriott) and you'll usually find a mix of golf and spa break packages throughout the year.

Hollins Hall Golf Course is an excellent test for a wide variety of golfers. The par-71 layout is one that provides a host of elevated tee-shots and small greens to hit into for your approach.
As a regular stop on the local professional, PGA EuroPro Tour and amateur circuit, Hollins Hall is well set up for challenging golfers of all handicaps. The course utilises the mature Yorkshire countryside to create a golf course that features undulating fairways, well-placed water hazards and bunkers. With the greens and tees benefitting from being built to USGA standards, the course provides a positive year-round golfing experience.
Set within 200 acres with views across the Aire Valley and Yorkshire Dales, Hollins Hall certainly provides a picturesque golf experience. It is the 14th hole which many consider to be the best hole on the golf course. The short par-4 is framed by a Viaduct and provides a superb example of risk and reward golf with water ready to capture any shot hit right of the putting surface.
With a host of amenities including a dedicated short-game area as well a large driving range, those wanting to warm up properly prior to their round are going to enjoy what Hollins Hall Golf Course has to offer. The hotel is centred on a Victorian country house built in 1878, Elizabethan in style, with modern extensions that bring the total to 122 rooms. It's got that traditional country-house look when you arrive, but it's set up for golf groups, short breaks and stay-and-play weekends rather than being overly formal.
Rooms are geared towards comfort after a long day on the course, with proper beds, soft duvets and decent pillows, plus high-speed internet, on-demand entertainment and flat-screen TVs. If you're travelling as a pair or as a society, it's worth requesting the right bedding configuration when you book so you're not playing room Tetris on arrival. There's parking on site, which is handy if you're driving up from further south or bringing your own clubs rather than hiring.
Food-wise, you've got two easy options on site. The Drawing Room covers full English breakfasts and evening dining, leaning on classics (steaks and familiar favourites) with a few more modern dishes alongside. The Grill on the Hill is the casual stop for lighter bites and post-round drinks, with craft beers, cocktails and a solid wine list, ideal if you've just walked 18 and can't face anything too heavy. You'll also find TV screens in both bars, interactive darts for a bit of friendly competition, and occasional live music to kick off the evening. Both spots are open to hotel guests and visiting golfers, so you're not stuck for choice if you want to stay on the estate rather than heading into Leeds or Bradford.
For non-golfers, or anyone who wants a recovery session after the round, the Health and Leisure Club is a genuine selling point. There's an indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room, cardio kit and free weights, plus treatment rooms offering Decleor facials, spa body treatments, Jessica manicures and pedicures and a range of massages. That makes Hollins Hall particularly good for mixed groups where some want to play every day and others want a proper spa-and-chill break.
The combination of golf, leisure, dining and live entertainment under one roof works well for societies who want everything sorted without needing to organise off-site dinners or activities. It's also a strong option for couples doing a golf-and-spa weekend, where one of you can be on the course while the other is in the treatment rooms, then you meet up for dinner and drinks without anyone having to drive anywhere. The location helps too: you're only 20 minutes or so from Leeds or Bradford if you fancy a night out, but the estate itself feels properly tucked away in the countryside.

Good accommodation but the rooms were not cleaned during our stay. No clean towels and the coffee/tea provided was not replenished. The bar was closed @ 11:00 hrs. Small bottles of beer were available from reception priced @ £6.40 a bottle. Meals were not great, my penne arrabbiatta consisted of boiled pasta and a dusting of tinned tomatoes. (very poor) Before staying at the hotel I phoned reception and asked for somewhere to leave our baggage due to check in being 3pm. A small room was provided behind reception and the office in this area was also used to store our luggage. On departure I was made aware, by one of our party, that there was now an issue storing the bags behind reception. I discussed the issue with the receptionist and the reason was that the overflow of cases were being stored in her office. I then asked for a safe secure room for our luggage, her reply was to leave them in the foyer. I explained that this was not a safe secure area and that I had asked for a secure room before our stay. The discussion continued and the next area she suggested was the mens'golf changing rooms. I insisted that this was again not a secure area. She did not back down however when more people from our group dropped off their bags she did place them in her office. The whole situation was unacceptable.

Accommodation and food very good - took a while for us to convince that we had a 20% discount on drinks. England match on tv at 5pm and only showing on one tv in one bar with limited access to it which was disappointing.

greens were in great condition, not easy to read, fairways were the same as other courses, starting to turn brown due to weather, but not the fault of anyone, only concern was the bunkers had not been raked in a while, as well as footprints, there was a lot of animal prints in them, plenty of soft white sand in them.

Bunkers were the worst I’ve ever played, to much sand in most and on Monday and Tuesday unplayable due to the amount of footprints. Interestingly on Wednesday when they had a members comp on every bunker had been raked. No thought to visitors and due to the weather some of the holes were visually unplayable. This was my fourth or fifth time at Hollins Hall and I can say that I will never return.

Due to very dry course balls ran on and on with the camber of fairways, a lot of bunkers, more than normal which were challenging but a very good lay out

Asked for a review Hard. A buggy is recommended. Very undulating so some unexpected bounce on the firm fairways. The greens were difficult to read, spongy and slow. The t boxes were in very poor condition. The course is in need of attention even when taking into account the hot weather we’ve had

Greens and fairways extremely fast, needed watering. Round on the Sunday took 6 hours in buggy’s due to being held up by a group infront. Rang club house on 10th hole as it had taken 3 hours to ask them to tell them to speed up or let us play through. Marshall came out however said it was a slow day but there was no group in front. Speed of the round ruined the game

Long, wide forgiving fairways and good greens gave us a challenge from 4-19 handicap. A number of risk and reward holes prevalent. Due to the height there was a strong wind adding to the challenge. Hell of a walk up the bank to the first hole but there is a 'buggy taxi' option available if you want it

A difficult course made more so by a howling wind - lost 2 hats during the round ( blew away!) The offer of a lift to the first tee was very welcome as it is quite a climb. Course was very quiet so we got round quite quickly. Course looked a little bit ragged around the edges and we just got the feeling that the hotel was more important to the owners
