Set in the heart of Surrey, Kingswood Golf and Country Club was designed in the 1920s by five-time Open champion James Braid. It's a par-72 parkland golf course measuring just over 6,900 yards off the white tees and is often rated among the county's best.
It's not just a pretty parkland either. Kingswood hosted British Senior Open Qualifying in 2011 and has staged three Ladies European Opens, which tells you the layout stands up nicely when the scorecard matters. You're looking at classic Surrey parkland here, tree-lined, neat presentation and the sort of course where plotting your way round usually beats swinging out of your boots. Braid's influence shows in the way hazards ask you to pick a side and commit, especially when you're coming into the greens.
Kingswood sits around 10 minutes from Junction 8 of the M25, so it works brilliantly for a quick Surrey break or as a base for a mini tour. You can pair it with nearby standouts like Walton Heath Golf Club without spending your weekend in the car. For post-round plans, Reigate, Epsom and Sutton are all a short drive away with plenty of options for food and a drink. If you're putting together a Surrey golf tour, Kingswood is a very easy one to slot in for a night or two.

Designed by 5-time Open Champion James Braid in 1928, this traditional parkland is one of the leading courses in Surrey. In 2007, the course underwent a re-design under the guidance of Howard Swan, recognised course architect for James Braid designed courses. These recent renovations have made Kingswood a 6,954 yard golf course which offers generous fairways, well positioned bunkers and smooth greens.
As the host venue of the 2014 Surrey Amateur Championship and Surrey Open, Kingswood is a course associated with championship golf. Off the white tees the par of 72 is matched by a standard scratch score of 74, ensuring anyone playing to their handicap has had their game tested. With just 2 par-4’s measuring under 400 yards, the course is one where strong driving and ball striking is key to scoring well while trying to avoid the numerous new bunkers which formed a major part of Swan’s redesign.
The course has four excellent par-3’s which vary from the shortest 7th hole with a yardage of around 120 yards to the testing 10th which can play 215 yards from the whites. The best chance of birdies come on the par-5’s with all 4 reachable in two big shots on fast running fairways. The course finishes strongly with the par-4 16th measuring 470 yards before ending with a dog-leg par-4 which finishes in front of a welcoming veranda offering views over the Chipstead Valley – a very enjoyable 19th hole experience.

The Lodge at Kingswood is a four-star boutique hotel set in peaceful surroundings on the estate. With just 18 spacious rooms, the property offers a more intimate, personal feel than larger golf resorts. Each room has been designed with a modern aesthetic and several overlook the par-4 18th hole and the Chipstead Valley beyond, giving you a view worth waking up to.
Rooms come well kitted out with Wi-Fi, Sky TV, a mini-bar, Nespresso machine and an in-room safe. Service is geared around golfers, so it's an easy place to check in, settle down and be ready for the first tee. The beds are genuinely comfortable and the quiet location means you'll get a solid night's sleep before your round.
The hotel's location, just 10 minutes from Junction 8 on the M25, makes it one of the most accessible golf break options in the South East. You can be off the motorway and checked in quickly, leaving more time for golf or exploring the area. The market towns of Epsom and Reigate are less than 20 minutes away, offering a good range of restaurants, pubs and shops if you want to venture out in the evening.
Dining is sorted on-site at the Clubhouse, where golfers can choose from a selection of bar snacks and freshly prepared meals. The 19th Hole is the natural spot to settle in after your round, with views across the 18th green and the valley beyond. It's relaxed, unpretentious and well suited to post-round analysis over a pint or a meal.
The combination of boutique accommodation, easy motorway access and a championship-standard course makes The Lodge at Kingswood a practical, quality choice for golfers visiting Surrey. Whether you're playing a quick overnight break or using it as a base for a longer tour of the region's parkland courses, the hotel delivers comfort, convenience and a genuine sense of place.

Considering the weather we’ve had over the summer the greens were some of the best we’ve played on in the last two months. Superb condition with a fabulous half way hut!

Course was in great condition. Not the most interesting in terms of variety, but challenging tough and wonderfully kept greens made it challenging.
