Perched at 68 degrees North on the island of Gimsøy, Lofoten Links sits well above the Arctic Circle in one of the most dramatic settings you'll find in European golf. The course runs along the shoreline between steep Lofoten peaks and white sand beaches, with small fishing villages and red timber buildings dotting the coastline nearby. It feels unmistakably Norwegian from the moment you arrive, raw and beautiful in equal measure.
What really sets it apart is the light. In summer you can play under the midnight sun, teeing off at 11pm with the sun still hanging over the horizon. In autumn and winter the skies turn dark and clear, perfect for spotting the Northern Lights when conditions are right. The aurora can be spectacular here on clear nights, thanks to the latitude and low light pollution. Add the sound of the ocean, the changing weather and the sense of real space around you and it becomes a golf trip that feels like an expedition as much as a holiday.
It's remote in the best way, but it's also set up for golfers, with lodges on site and the barn restaurant a short walk away. If you're the organiser in your group, this is the sort of destination that rewards a well-planned itinerary, especially around travel times, daylight hours and when you want to play. The course itself is perfectly positioned for summer midnight sun rounds and, in the darker months, a genuine chance of the aurora overhead.

Lofoten Links is a spectacular 18-hole links course which is beautifully situated on the island of Gimsøya in Lofoten, Norway. The course is located by the seaside with an unobstructed view to the North and the midnight sun, from the end of May till the end of July, the sun never sets! Playing and walking the course is a grand experience where the ocean is a water hazard on several holes and sandy beaches act as natural bunker.
Lofoten Links is one of the few courses in the world to offer a chance to play golf in the midnight sun! From end of August until the end of October you can play golf at daytime and experience the Northern Lights at night.

The lodges at Lofoten Links are built to make the most of the location, all facing north with uninterrupted views across the bay towards the ocean and the night sky. This makes them a brilliant base for Northern Lights hunting when conditions are favourable, with the aurora often visible directly from the lodge windows and terraces during the winter months. There are 11 lodges in total, each designed to sleep between seven and eight guests, making them ideal for golf groups or families travelling together. The layout varies slightly between lodges, some bedrooms are ensuite while others share bathrooms, but all are spacious, well equipped and built with comfort in mind after a day on the course or exploring the islands.
Each lodge features a large communal living area with a fireplace at its heart, perfect for gathering after a round to swap stories, plan the next day or simply watch the light change over the water. The kitchens are fully equipped for self catering, though most guests will take advantage of the on site dining at Restaurant Låven. Every lodge also has a terrace area with outdoor seating, offering spectacular views across the bay whether that's the midnight sun in June or the first stars appearing over the mountains in autumn. The walk from the lodges to the clubhouse and restaurant is short and easy, making the whole setup feel relaxed and sociable.
A short walk from the lodges brings you to Låven, the resort's rustic restaurant housed in a beautifully restored barn that's more than 70 years old. The building has real character, with original timber beams, stone walls and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels a world away from generic resort dining. The menu focuses on traditional Norwegian ingredients, locally sourced fish, game and seasonal produce, prepared with a modern touch. Breakfast is served here each morning for lodge guests and it's the natural gathering point for dinner in the evening, with dishes that reflect the landscape and the seasons. The food is hearty, flavourful and designed to fuel long days on the course or out exploring the Lofoten archipelago.

The lodges are in a perfect location for playing the course - quiet, superb views and very comfortable. The wood burner was superb, although we were charged for additional wood. The kitchen in our lodge could have done with a couple more pieces of essential equipment like a microwave and toaster. Also, be aware that if you don't book all the rooms in the Lodge, you could be sharing with others as all the bedrooms can be locked individually.

Quite simply the most dramatic course I have ever played. The scenery is spectacular and definitely distracts you from your golf - in a good way 😀 Yes the greens were poor and the clubhouse is basic but that is not the reason to go to Lofoten. It is a perfect 4 ball better ball course and not one for medal play unless you hit the ball very very straight! Make sure you book at least 2 rounds as you need at least one round to get your head around it. Bring plenty of balls as if you miss the fairway you only have a one in ten chance of finding it. If we missed the fairway we had a drop out for one rule whether it was a penalty area or not which I would recommend for everybody, otherwise you will waste hours looking for balls and miss the incredible scenery. Lastly, the staff were great, very friendly and helpful. I can’t wait to go back!

A physically demanding course, but we were lucky to play it in very benign conditions - sunshine on all 3 days and little wind. For a course this far north, the greens and fairways were in excellent condition. Course management is key and you should play it more than once to get the best experience as we found our first round was more exploratory than accurate. We also spent time taking photos as the scenery is stunning. The course seemed busier in the afternoon slots. We were not pressured at all as we played 3 consecutive mornings. All the staff on the course and in the well stocked pro shop were very helpful.

An amazing setting. Naturally beautiful, rugged terrain. If you miss the fairways you are punished. Greens unfortunately were very poor.

Absolutely amazing location wonderful experience playing golf in the midnight sun. Tee boxes and greens not great. But the location was absolutely fabulous. YGT however were poor did very little to support us and tried to charge us £20 to change a tee time. Poor service and then the app didn’t work whilst I was away.

Magnificent course. Best views in the world. Greens, coming out of winter (snow) were still not in good shape. It did not take away from the overall experience.

Wonderful views and amazing course. Fairways and greens affected by ice in the winter. Despite this it was still a wonderful course. Staff amazing especially Andy the GM.
