Lingfield Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club ticks a lot of boxes if you want a Surrey golf break that doesn't involve a long drive or a complicated itinerary. You've got a proper parkland course that's hosted local PGA events, a comfortable four-star hotel with 116 rooms and the sort of peaceful countryside setting that makes you forget the M25 is only 15 minutes away. The estate is shared with Lingfield Park Racecourse, which gives the place a bit of added buzz on racedays and some seriously good views from the hotel.

The golf course is a local favourite, with a parkland layout that asks you to shape a few shots and pick sensible targets. It's enjoyable for mid-handicappers, but there's enough going on to keep better players interested, especially when the greens are running true. Off the course, you've got the Cyprium Bar & Grill for an easy evening meal and a leisure club that's ideal for a post-round dip. If you fancy making more of a weekend of it, you can mix 18 holes with a day at the races, or simply use Lingfield as a handy base for exploring this corner where Surrey, Sussex and Kent meet.

Less than an hour from central London and around 20 minutes from Gatwick, it's also one of the simplest South of England breaks to reach for a quick two-nighter with the lads, a couples' stay or a small society trip. A good day here is 18 holes in the morning, horses in the afternoon, then dinner at Cyprium without needing to drive anywhere.

Who is this for?
Golfers looking for a quality South of England break within easy reach of London and the major motorways, couples wanting to combine golf with racing and countryside relaxation, and groups who appreciate a proper parkland course alongside four-star hotel facilities.

Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers who enjoy a strategic parkland layout, societies and corporate groups seeking a well-rounded venue with dining and leisure options, and anyone flying into Gatwick who wants a golf break without the hassle of a long transfer.

Lingfield Park

The added bonus is access to the excellent Lingfield Park Golf Course, located onsite and recently improved to offer a splendid 6,487 yard test. Located within the grounds of the racecourse, the golf at Lingfield Park is the perfect complement.

As the host of numerous local PGA events, including The Surrey Open, Lingfield Park is a superb test of golf from the back tees, rewarding those who are able to drive accurately and take advantage of it's design to open up greens and second shots. With many testing tee-shots on display, most notably on the front 9 with it's tree-lined holes, those with a keen ability off the tee will be score well here. The course enjoys great views and numerous elevations so what the course lacks in length is more than made up by the natural landscape.

Accommodation at Lingfield Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club

With 116 rooms, Lingfield Park Marriott is set up well for golf groups and societies, but it doesn't feel massive or chaotic. If you can, look at the 28 superior balcony rooms. They're the ones that make the most of the setting, with views over either the golf course or the racecourse, so you can sit out with a coffee and watch the estate wake up.

Rooms are modern Marriott-comfy rather than flashy, which is exactly what you want after 18 holes. You've got space to spread out, decent beds and the sort of practical touches that make short breaks easy. The hotel's location, just 20 minutes from Gatwick and 15 minutes from Junction 6 of the M25 or Junction 10 of the M23, makes it one of the easiest golf breaks to reach in the South East, whether you're driving down from London or flying in for a quick weekend.

Food & Drink

Cyprium Bar & Grill is the main spot for dinner and a drink, with big windows looking out over the course and racecourse. The menu is broad enough for groups, covering everything from steaks and grills to lighter options that suit both large parties and smaller groups who want a quieter corner. The atmosphere in the evenings is relaxed and sociable, with private booths available if you're travelling as a couple or just want a bit more privacy. The variety on the menu means it works well for golf societies with different tastes, and the views make it a pleasant spot to settle in for the evening.

Leisure Facilities

There's a pool, jacuzzi and gym on site, ideal for loosening up after your round or killing an hour before dinner. The facilities are more than adequate for a golf break, and the pool in particular is a nice touch if you're travelling with non-golfers or just want to feel like you've had a proper break, not just a golf trip.

How to get to Lingfield Park

Lingfield Park is nestled in the countryside that borders Surrey, Sussex and Kent, just 20 minutes from Gatwick Airport and a mere 15 minutes from Junction 6 of the M25 or Junction 10 of the M23.

The hotel was comfortable, good beds and showers. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. We all enjoyed our stay very much . The food was good on the whole, the breakfast is excellent, however the price of the wine was high.

Yes everything was good with the Hotel. The burger on the main course was over cooked and potentially Breakfast food could have been slightly hotter however appreciate that can be hard when offering buffet arrangement. The other issue but not major was no Skysports so we could not watch the Ryder Cup. Maybe Hotel description should include whether on not it has satélite TV?

What you’d expect from a Marriott. Clean, fresh and comfortable. Restaurant food was good and service very friendly (if a little slow). The bar area was quite small though so we struggled to get a table in the evening. Bar was also expensive (£30 for 4 pints of beer).

Overall was a fantastic stay, for us the only downside was on the first day they only had 1 bar open all day which resulted in a long wait for drinks. Other then that was decent

Would have been faultless if it wasn't for the guy on a tractor literally following us hole to hole. We flagged him through once but he still turned up again. Constance noise did take the shine off a great day.

This is a beautiful course but the conditions of the first 9 holes was very poor. The last holes were better, but not much. It felt as if it had been neglected, no watering or tidying. It should be a great course as the layout is nice and it is a good challenge with beautiful parkland, shrubs and views.

Very slow first day over 5 hours, and second day we had asked for earlier tee time from YGT and was told no early tee times were available. But hardly anyone playing the course second day. Luckily they let us bring tee times forward, but couldn’t understand why we were told earliest tee time was 10.45am when there was hardly anyone playing.

Great course but the bunkers were in a terrible state. Some had very little sand, some had not been raked and the blanket was showing. This let the course down badly. The level of acorns and chestnuts on the fairways was just about acceptable, but really should have been blown off the fairways. Several greens and hole positions were really challenging and we greatly enjoyed that aspect. We look forward to returning some time in the near future

Unfortunately the both rounds took in the region of 5 hours which we feel is a little bit slow especially in this day and age of slow play. The only other comment is they stop breakfast at 11 and dont appear to serve any food then until 12 at the earliest. Some of the group were not able to get any food before playing.

Great course, good variety of holes throughout. We were lucky with weather but could see problems arising in wet conditions. Only grumble would be the bunkers - they need a lot of attention to get to level of rest of course. Overall great.

Good and interesting course. Small greens which were good but the course is a little "tatty" in places, probably caused by the dry summer. Will definitely play again

The course has a good mix of holes. It requires a high degree of accuracy with some big dog legs and some tight tree lined fairways but also has some more open holes. It’s not got many particularly long holes so irons were used off most tee’s. There were some greens where drainage was an issue even though the greens had been spiked but we had quite a bit of rain in days leading up to our trip. Could practice area with greens for practicing chipping and bunker play + putting. Driving range was disappointing as no rubber tee’s on the mats and quality of balls was low (about every 8th ball had a crack or lump taken out of it)
