For years The Nottinghamshire Golf & Country Club has been one of the top choices in the Midlands for a golf break, and it's not hard to see the appeal. The Nottinghamshire's best established course is best viewed in two distinct halves; the front nine is laid out around an intimidating network of lakes and waterways, which can easily account for the majority of your golf ball supply! The closing stretch is bordered by impressive woodland, and though different in style, is just as enjoyable.
Originally a nine-hole course, The Signature Course was transformed by Peter Alliss in 1997, and the revision has made it a real treat. The signature hole is the short 16th, whose green is perched at the edge of a large lake – in the middle of the same lake is the nerve jangling 11th tee!
Set within 340 acres, The Residence Boutique Hotel is the on-site option at The Nottinghamshire. Rooms are contemporary, finished to a high standard and styled with boutique touches, so it feels a bit more personal than a standard golf hotel. You've got a good spread of room types for golf groups, from twins and doubles through to family options and suites. If you want extra space or a quieter setup, the Superior Suites are the ones to look at, with private entrances that make it easy to come and go around the group schedule.
The practical side is sorted. Everything you need is close by, including the practice area, clubhouse and restaurant, so there's no messing about with transfers or driving between venues. That on-site convenience is worth a lot when you're trying to fit in two rounds and still have time to relax.
After golf, the Lakeview Restaurant is the natural go-to, with views across the estate and a relaxed feel that works for couples and societies alike. The food is well prepared and built around quality seasonal ingredients, and the setting makes it easy to settle in for a proper meal after your round. The hotel is excellent, rooms are modern with fantastic en suites. The food and drink on offer is very good. The staff, particularly on the reception and in the pro shop were very friendly and helpful.

Hotel room was clean and tidy and modern. One of the better golf hotels I have stayed at. Club house nice not big and nice outside area to have a drink after. We had dinner bed and breakfast. Evening meal was two courses and was good and as expected quality wise. Breakfast was good not loads to pick from but we had the full English.

Best room accommodation I’ve ever had on a golf trip! Comfortable beds, air con, showers were incredible, Clean and quiet at night. Bar and restaurant were extremely nice. Food was so tasty and good portion size. Awesome outside seating area with great views overlooking both courses. Good short game practice facilities and trackman driving range which is a must!

Restaurant takes last orders at 8.15 pm. Ridiculous for a large golf hotel. This spoiled our day as we had to rush back from where we had played golf on day one for a very mediocre dinner. One of our party was vomiting from 3am, so I would suspect staphylococcal food poisoning with that onset interval. She had only eaten cereal and a banana before that. Questionable food handling procedures which should be reviewed with the kitchen team.

Enjoyed everything about The Nottinghamshire - apart from the price of the buggies - £35 to £40 more than enough to pay! Maybe should have checked the price before we arrived!

Just returned home from a very good experience at the Nottinghamshire county club. All the facilities were excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful and our room was really spacious and air conditioned. We would definitely go again.

In terms of value for money this place ticks all the boxes. Two good golf courses, friendly staff in the bar, reception and pro shop. The bedrooms are basic but what do you expect for 2 rounds of golf and Bed and Breakfast for under £200.

The championship course was fantastic to play, lovely opening hole with views towards the city. The greens were in very good condition and consistent the hole round.

We walked of again at the 13th hole. This course we thought was better than the championship course it had some elevation changes and was better on the eye. Not overly long again resort style course. Again the reason for walking off is speed of play again the group in front was a group of 6 x 4 balls mostly in buggies. We were a 3 walking and then dropped down to two. And then just gave up as the 13th tee which is next to the car park. Arriving at the tee group in front stood there and group in front just finished teeing off again. Don’t know if they are just ramming as many groups out as they can. It was like the day before we had two groups behind us and there were 4 of the groups in front all basically playing on 3 holes. Again no marshalling. And no group wants to let the other group pass through. I looked at the 3 tee from 6th tee, again 2nd fairway group waiting for green and two groups stood on 3rd tee with a group on the 3rd green.

We only played 12 holes and walked off. Practice range is ok and near to club house and course. Selection for balls was 50 or 100 we split the 100 between us. As we don’t want to hit that many before playing. Not big putting area but ok and in good condition. Course tee blocks good condition greens and run off areas good, fairways considering the summer good, patches here and there but that’s like anywhere currently. The course was for us a bit bland flat and open and short. As above we only completed 12 holes. Basically from the first tee shot we teed of late. And every shot there after we were standing waiting. Every hole every green to clear. At reaching the 9th we was basically 5 groups on 2 holes. We were walking the others in Buggies. I am finding this standard is get worst and I want new people to play the game but the likes of here and the resort places need to start getting out and marshalling the course. We see no one all day from the staff moving groups along. Groups making people putt out from a foot. I think a ring round the hole I have seen overseas people pickup from inside it to keep the flow going. If you have had more than 10 pick your ball up and go to the next hole. If your on the green and the person furthest away is still walking round off the fairway take your shot if you stood at it waiting. Upon reaching the 12th which is next to the club house and it was 1830 and we see that the group in front is standing waiting for the group in front to reach the green on the par 3 and the group in front of them just getting to the other tee we lost the will to live and went for a beer.

Very enjoyable course, which our group played twice. Tricky and challenging but loved it! 1st round nice pace however the 2nd round was over 5 hours but lots of us had good rounds so can’t complain too much! Plenty of water which makes it interesting!

Fairways were scorched due to uk heatwave , but tee boxes and greens were in good condition. Lots of hazards which made for a challenging round
