Golf Courses at Orizonte Golf
Aroeira Pine Classic Course
Cut through majestic pine trees and around stunning blue lakes, Aroeira has two championship golf courses that were designed by some of Europe's most renowned architects, and have played host to a number of prestigious professional events. The resort benefits from an amazing microclimate that allows golf to be played in the sunshine all year round, and makes Aroeira an attractive option, particularly in the dark winter months.
Aroeira Pine Classic opened for play in 1973, having been designed by Frank Pennink. Since then, the course has steadily built up an impressive reputation, culminating with the award of the Portuguese Open in 1996 and 1997 and more recently the International Portuguese Amateur Championship Gentlemen & Ladies (2010 & 2011). From the championship tees, Aroeira Pine Classic reaches 6,609 yards, and set amidst some 900 acres of beautiful pines, is a stunning location for a game of golf.
Aroeira Challenge Course
With the inauguration of the second course in the year 2000, Aroiera was confirmed as one of Portugal's premier golfing destinations. Aroeira Challenge was conceived by Donald Steel, the man responsible for so many outstanding projects both in the UK and abroad, and has been earmarked for future Portuguese Opens. The course winds its way around several lakes, and with a variety of tee markers on offer, it remains playable for golfers of all standards.Aroeira has an excellent golf academy, where you can seek the advice of the expert PGA professionals or simply work on a few of the game's finer points.
Ribagolfe Lakes Course
Within easy reach of Lisbon, Ribagolfe now has two championship golf courses, underlining its status as one of the best places to head for quality golf in this lovely part of Portugal.
Ribagolfe Lakes opened for play in the summer of 2004, and is a stunning championship golf course. The par-72 layout is a formidable test from the championship tees, measuring 7,327 yards, and is one that will test even the most skilful players, demanding every shot in the bag.The natural landscape has great sweeping undulations that make for interesting holes as well as facilitating terrific views. Accuracy is the most valuable asset around Ribagolfe Lakes, where the fairways are narrow, and the sloping greens are protected by fearsome bunkers, while the tricky lakes that are dotted around the course can wreak havoc on your scorecard.
Ribagolfe Oaks Course
Riabgolfe Oaks lies adjacent to the formidable first course, and presents a more forgiving test. The fairways are more forgiving, and at 6,846 yards, the course is considerably shorter than its neighbour, but the array of lakes and pot bunkers makes it extremely interesting.Carved through beautiful groves of cork oak trees, Ribagolfe's second course is a real pleasure to play during a golf holiday in the Lisbon area of Portugal.
Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club
Quinta do Peru is a relatively new development, but in its short existence it has established a reputation as one of the best courses in Portugal. It has already been chosen to host a major ladies professional event, and there are plans afoot to develop the venue further to host the most prestigious championships.
The fairways and greens are crisply manicured, and are beautifully off-set by the crystal white sand of the expansive bunkers. The course measures 6,650 yards, and is a fair test, but the stunning beauty of the resort style layout will ensure that every single golfing visitor will leave satisfied.
Santo Estevao Golf Course
Santo Estevao is an amazing new course that has been carved out of the unspoiled countryside in the Ribatejo region. The golf course itself is a high quality layout in the style of the modern American resorts, and was conceived by the great Donald Steel, who has created a number of the finest courses in the United Kingdom and beyond.
