It's a beautiful hotel. Reception area very smart, fantastic lounges with very comfortable sofas and armchairs, the dining room was lovely and there was a really nice fragrance throughout the reception and lounge areas. However, once up in our room things change. Tbe room in general needed a redec, it looked very tired and appeared very dark. This was because the bottom half of the window was in a ridged non see through glass, which meant we could only see the top if a tree and very little sky. Upon climbing on a chair to see what view we had, I understood why. Down below our window was the extensive bin area. Nit a pretty site. We decided not to complain because you don't spend so much time in your room. However, our room also gad an adjoining room door to the next room. The guests tge other side were very loud getting ready to go down to dinner, but hey ho, we all like to gave fun but when that fun, laughter and noise extends to 12.30am and then again at 3.30 am, it becomes a nuisance. To top all this off, at 6am the bin area was a hive of activity, with bins being emptied, talking etc. Luckily the room guests were either gone the next morning or were a lot quieter. On our last morning, we went down to breakfast and on returning to our room, there was the mist disgusting stench of sewage in our room and once again, noise coming from the bin area. On climbing on the chair again, there was a lorry either emptying the septic tank or unblocking drains. I literally wanted felt sick. I loved everything about the hotel and would return but definitely not in any of the numerous rooms that look over this disgusting area. We often go away with other golfing couples and I would recommend Oulton to them but only if we were away from the rooms overlooking the bin area.
