One of the top hotel and golf options in North England, Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort is the epitome of countryside opulence, with 27 holes of outstanding golf on site. Dave Thomas' championship design is widely regarded as one of the finest parkland layouts in northern England, the course overlooks the characteristic hills and dales of Yorkshire and is both a pleasure and a challenge.

Located just outside Leeds, Oulton Hall sits within easy reach for the majority of UK golfers. Set in a beautiful 18th-century building, you can feel the quality of the place from the moment you arrive. The Grade II listed mansion has been sympathetically converted into a 5-star golf resort, currently benefitting from a £7.5 million investment programme that only serves to confirm the quality on offer. There's a reason it's a go-to for Leeds golf breaks, and the ongoing investment is a welcome bonus.

Beyond the golf, you'll find a state-of-the-art spa, health club, beautifully kept gardens and a drawing room, plus two fantastic restaurants. The Calverley Grill has earned an AA Rosette for fine Yorkshire dining built around the finest local ingredients, while The Claret Jug offers a relaxed atmosphere to watch players teeing off and finishing their rounds after your own game.

Who is this for?
Golfers, couples and societies looking for an easy-to-reach Leeds base with 27 holes on site, plus a proper spa and good dining.

Who is it best for?
If you like parkland golf that makes you think from the tee, you'll enjoy it most. It's also a strong shout for groups who want golf and spa under one roof, and for mixed parties where not everyone is playing every day.

Golf Courses at Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Calverly Course

As you would expect, Thomas's layout takes in the natural undulations of the land, but he has used the inherent features of the landscape to create hazards. The greens are very subtle, a feature of the designer's ability to create a good challenge, whilst retaining the course's playability for golfers of all standards.

Dave Thomas has created many great parkland courses in the UK with The Belfry's Brabazon Course being the most notable one. Expect plenty of undulations and an emphasis on course management to play to your handicap on The Calverly Course at Oulton Hall.

Hall Course

Adding to Oulton's golfing repertoire is the 9-hole Hall course, which may not be long, but it will be an enjoyable experience for all those who visit on a golf break.

The investment programme has encompassed the clubhouse, which is now a superb two-storey facility with a restaurant and excellent corporate banqueting capabilities.

Popular with beginners and experienced golfers alike, this is well-recommended as a warm up or extension of your round at Oulton Hall.

Accommodation at Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Oulton Hall is one of the north of England's few true 5-star golf resorts, and the ongoing £7.5 million investment programme continues to raise the bar. The Grade II listed mansion is a truly stunning construction, sympathetically converted to house 152 guest rooms, including 12 deluxe rooms and 7 suites. The building itself may be traditional, but the fittings and furnishings are contemporary, ensuring you get the best of both worlds: period charm with modern comfort.

All rooms are finished to a high standard, with contemporary décor, quality linens and modern amenities. The deluxe rooms and suites offer additional space and upgraded features, ideal for those wanting a little extra luxury or travelling as part of a special occasion. The surrounding gardens are expertly trimmed and manicured, testament to the attention to detail that allows Oulton Hall to stand apart as a destination for a golf break in the north.

The rooms themselves are spacious and well appointed, with everything you'd expect from a 5-star property: comfortable beds, good showers, decent Wi-Fi and enough desk space if you need to catch up on emails between rounds. The suites are worth the upgrade if you're celebrating something or just fancy a bit more room to spread out. Views vary depending on which side of the building you're in, but the best overlook the gardens and course.

It's the kind of place where you can settle in for a few days without feeling like you're missing anything. The public spaces are elegant without being stuffy, and there's a good balance between traditional country-house character and modern resort convenience. If you're bringing non-golfing partners, the spa and leisure facilities give them plenty to do while you're out on the course.

Food & Drink

The elegant Calverley Grill has been recognised with an AA Rosette, offering fine Yorkshire dining built from the finest and freshest local ingredients. It's the kind of place where you'll want to linger over dinner, especially after a long day walking the course. The menu leans into local produce, and the kitchen knows how to handle it properly.

For something more relaxed, The Claret Jug delivers a laid-back atmosphere where you can enjoy a drink and watch players teeing off and finishing their rounds, the perfect spot to debrief your own game. It's the easy pick for post-round pints and a debrief, with a good view of the action around the clubhouse.

Leisure Facilities

The newly refurbished leisure complex features a sublime swimming pool, steam room, sauna, gym and an aerobics studio, all designed to help you unwind or stay sharp between rounds. For something a little more sedate, there are a number of health and beauty treatments on offer at the spa, making Oulton Hall an excellent choice for those combining golf with relaxation or travelling with non-golfing partners. The spa is well equipped and the treatment menu covers everything from sports massage to full-day packages, useful if you've overdone it on the course or just fancy some downtime.

The accommodation was average, the rooms have seen better days, time for a recamp of the accommodation. I asked to change rooms due not being able to use the bathroom facilities. I asked for a disability room, with a walk in shower. Much better and more accessible to have a shower. The Receptionist change the room no bother at all.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff. The course was in good condition too, considering the recent drought. The only negative was the cost of renting a buggy!

A really lovely and very comfortable hotel. The staff were always polite and would go out of their way to help. Drink prices were a little expensive but this seems to be normal nowadays.

Very nice and clean hotel. Friendly staff. The golf courses were obviously suffering from the recent heat but still enjoyed the games. The buggies were dirty and had litter in them so could have been a staffing issue. I didn’t realise that a tip gets added to every order so that needs to be made more visible. Overall, a very good, short break and will return soon

Accommodation was great in a superb old manor house. They ran out of beer by 18:30 in the club house, only bottle beer if you like bud, no draught at all, some in the hotel bar, later on. Breakfast was a joke I have photos of empty dishes at the hot buffet waiting 20 / 30 mins for them to be restocked,

The course had been closed for maintenance until 16th August. We arrived on the 21st August. The greens hadn’t been touched, woolly and slow, which was a let down for a QHotel. The tee boxes on some of the holes were new, nice rubber material for winter golf. All the golfers stated the buggies were to expensive at £50 per round. The disability golfer who need a buggy, are at a disadvantage with that cost on top. As a good will gesture they let us have the buggies for £40 on the Saturday. That was a joke, considering the golfer spent a lot of money on beer, wine and extra food over the 3 days. This issue needs to be addressed with the cost of the buggies. The buggies had seen better days, we changed our buggy twice before playing on the first tee, slow puncture first one and second buggy power steering not working. When I spoke to other golfer they couldn’t believe the cost of the buggies. My own club charges £15.00 per round. Your operations manager Andrew had a word about the cost of the buggies! The hotel didn’t really listen to him, only dropping the price my £10 on the Saturday. I have played every Q Hotel in the UK, this is by far the worst with their attitude towards disability golfers.

We expected the fairways to be in pour condition because of the weather but the greens were terrible , we were all very disappointed has it was recommended to us has a good place to go for one of the parties 50 birthday

Played all three 9s. Quite tough in places but partly caused really by bouncing balls off the hard surface after all of the hot weather so no fault on the club for that! Overall, very enjoyable

As with the Hall course, this was in awful condition..Having to play off mats instead of tee boxes for a number of holes..Greens bumpier than Quasimodos back and poorly presented areas all over the course..Really disappointing for all members of the group..The course set-up is letting your golf travel down right now.

Sadly, the course was in awful condition..Bumpy, unprepared greens, bunkers in a terrible state and tee boxes were a mess..Looked like it hadn’t seen a greenkeeper in a month.

This course can be very testing, as we found in the windy conditions on the Saturday. However, as the winds dropped on day 2, scoring became easier. Some.of the holes are very well.protected by the greens, meaning tee shots and approach shots need to be very accurate. Tee boxes on some.holes weren't the best, but the greens were very good. Considering the recent dry.spell we'd had, course was very good.
