Pleasington Golf Club

Pleasington Golf Club, regarded as Lancashire's premier heathland course, offers an exceptional golfing experience just a short drive from major urban centres. Located only 10 minutes from the M6 (Junction 29) and less than an hour from cities like Manchester, Liverpool, and Leeds, it serves as an ideal stop for golfers traveling to Scotland or exploring the renowned links of North West England.

Founded in 1891, Pleasington Golf Club has a rich history, initially laid out with nine holes by George Lowe Snr, the course was later expanded to 18 holes by Alexander "Sandy" Herd in 1909. Over the years, Pleasington has evolved while maintaining its historical charm, including a significant renovation of the clubhouse in 1997.

Following a £1 million course renovation, the 12-time Open Qualifying Venue
and home of elite amateur tournaments, earned a coveted spot in Golf
Monthly’s Top 200 UK & Ireland Courses.

Pleasington Golf Club offers a unique and challenging golfing experience set in picturesque Lancashire countryside. The course features 18 holes laid out over 142 acres of stunning terrain1. It was originally designed by George Lowe Snr and later extended by Sandy Herd, creating a layout that offers golfers a diverse challenge.

Ken Moodie of Creative Golf Design was approached by the club to oversee extensive scrub clearance, heathland restoration, bunker renovation, and dramatic design changes to several holes, including significant improvements to holes 6, 10, and 11.

Pleasington is known for its sandy soil base, which provides excellent drainage even in wet conditions, beautifully maintained greens with well-defined aprons, a mix of ancient woodlands and open heathland, and elevation changes that add complexity to shot-making, all contributing to a diverse and challenging golfing experience.
