Quinta do Lago unbelievable! Utterly breathtaking! Can't wait to return. Am certainly interested in repeating similar on annual basis. Even thinking about purchase of property or timeshare! Thanks a lot. Any info you can offer always welcome.
Quinta Do LagoTop 100 Europe
Quinta do Lago is a famous name in Portuguese golf, having been awarded many prestigious professional and amateur events. Home to three outstanding championship golf courses, all of which are among the very best in Portugal, yet offer very contrasting tests of golf, this amazing resort also boasts a fantastic Paul McGinley Golf Academy, a host of excellent eateries and bars, a number of grand villas and a five star hotel.
Situated a stone's throw from the stunning Ria Formosa National Park, Quinta do Lago is about more than just the golf, offering a comprehensive holiday experience that, in the Algarve at least, is tough to beat. With easy access to the beach and various water sports, as well restaurants, sports facilities and even
shopping, there is always plenty on offer away from the fairways too.

South course is the jewel in the crown of Quinta Do Lago and, despite its
championship status, the course presents an interest and challenge to players
of all abilities.
Following the design of William Mitchell, who introduced USGA specification greens, tees and bunkers, the course has gained a strong reputation and has become one of the favourites amongst many who frequent the Algarve. The impressive layout, which overlooks the stunning Ria Formosa National Park, is set amongst wildflowers, umbrella pines and lakes and is a supremely tranquil and enjoyable place to play golf.
While the front nine calls for more draw shots from the tee, the back nine looks for a fade, keeping golfer on their toes from the first tee to the 18th green. Although many of the fairways are fairly wide and undulating, the course is made more challenging by a variety of doglegs and strategically located hazards which golfers must plan their way around with good course management. Accurate approach shots are also essential to reach many of the well protected greens in regulation.

Opened for play: 1974
Did you know? The course record was broken at the 1989 Portuguese Open by Colin Montgomerie. In total, Monty shot a remarkable 24 under par, including a round of 63, and eventually won by 11 shots!
open (1976, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 2001)
White: 7,095 yards, SSS 75
Yellow: 6,419 yards, SSS 77
Red: 5,678 yards, SSS 73
Signature Hole – No. 15: Par 3, 218 yards (White Tees)
The North Course is set to be the new pride of Quinta Do Lago. Following its redesign in 2014 by Beau Welling and winning Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley, the course places a firm emphasis on precision and strategy rather than brute force an ignoracne. The €9.6m investment included the rebuilding of all greens, tees, bunkers & cart paths, as well as improvement to irrigation and drainage systems using the latest state-of-the-art technology.
The North Course is now one of the most aesthetically pleasing in the Algarve and the updated design has allowed it to keep pace with modern technology and remain a relevant challenge. Cool season rough grass, and the select planting of native grasses and specimen trees have been introduced to further reduce the impact on the environment, whilst also helping to make the course more visually appealing.

Did you know? The North course was named ‘The Best New Golf Course in Europe’ at the 2014 World Golf Awards after being redesigned by renowned American golf architect Beau Welling and European Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley.
White: 6,699 yards, SSS 72
Yellow: 6,259 yards, SSS 72
Red: 5,448 yards, SSS 72
Signature Hole – No. 12: Par 4, 2394 yards (White Tees)
The highlight of the North course is the 12th. Whilst also being the most visually appealing hole on the course, it is one of the most challenging. The hole doglegs its way around a ominous lake, and even the best of drives leaves a treacherous approach shot to a large undulating green.
Laranjal is situated just 2 km east of the resort, in the Ludo Valley, and its reputation is growing fast. The course is routed through orange groves, which is where the name Laranjal was derived. Laranjal is certainly unusual too. It contains five par 3’s, eight par 4’s and five par 5’s, as oppose to following the standard 4-10-4 format prevalent in most courses. This subtle change is a fine touch to what is simply, a quite stunning course.
Laranjal is renowned for its five beautiful lakes and its abundance of umbrella pines, corks and orange trees. The course also boasts well-defined greens, as well as some spectacular narrow fairways sown with Bermuda grass, demanding the highest level of concentration and accuracy. It is a great addition to Quinta Do Lago, and its varied layout, which provides many eye catching holes, is certainly worth a visit.STATS

White: 7,086 yards, SSS 76
Yellow: 6,217 yards, SSS 72
Red: 5,258 yards, SSS 72
Signature Hole – No. 11: Par 3, 230 yards (Black Tees)
There are many stand-out holes at Laranjal but it’s hard to argue against the 11th being the Signature Hole. This stunning par 3 is played over a sizeable lake towards a green that is guarded at the front by a remarkable bunker which has no boundary at the front, rather disappearing into the depths of the lake. A miniature beach of you will.
The green is framed at the back by tall umbrella pines and slopes severely from front to back, meaning that any approach shot above the pin when it’s in the back portion of the green will leave a lightning fast putt down the hill.As demanding as it is beautiful, this is one of the standout par 3s in Portugal.
Amongst the practice facilities at Quinta Do Lago is the Academy, which is in partnership with Paul McGinley. Golfers are assisted in improving their technique and their strategy. The academy ensures the performance centre brings about an enjoyable experience for all golfers.

The golf was superb and the Superbok wasn't too bad either. Thanks,
We just got back from our Portugal golf tour and would like to thank Your Golf Travel for all your hard work. As a collection of courses the ones you recommended for us were the best we have ever played on a golf holiday.
We stayed at the Quinta do Lago Resort and it was one of the best we had ever experienced. The service we received from the staff at the hotel was perfect...attentive but not in your face! The two restaurants were great and we didn’t need to venture away from the resort for food. The Spa and all the other facilities at the resort provided the perfect place to spend our time away from the golf courses. The sea views from our rooms were an added bonus as well!
We played all of the courses at Quinta do Lago. The North course was our favourite but only by a whisker! The final hole here was probably the best finishing hole I have ever played. Although the South course is the more prestigious out of the three, we felt it was a bit too long for our tastes and surprisingly it was not in as good a condition as the other two. We felt the Laranjal was a great course but understandably needs time to mature seeing as it is only a couple of years old. I would say it will be an absolute gem in about five years time.
We also played the Old Course and the Royal course at Vale do Lobo. The Royal Course was the star of whole golf holiday and we all thought the famous 16th was worth the trip alone! We can certainly see why it is the most photographed hole in Europe! The Ocean Course was a good support act but had a hard time living up to its illustrious sibling!
All the courses were in amazing condition and the greens on all five courses were some of the best we have ever experienced.
All of the transfers were arranged to perfection and we arrived at golf courses and the airport in plenty of time on every occasion which was a big plus because we could just relax and not worry about timing things.
As far as your service goes it was the most professional and efficient we have experienced for some time and we will definitely be booking with Your Golf Travel for future golf breaks.
First of all I would like to thank Your Golf Travel for organising my recent golf holiday in Quinta do Lago...it was awesome!
The tee times your secured for us were perfect for two out of the three rounds. In fact, we were first off at the South Course and absolutely flew around! I never thought I would play a better golf course than the Brabazon at The Belfry or the Ocean Course at Vale do Lobo but the Laranjal topped the lot! It really is a tremendous layout with great views. The hills, trees and bunkering really define the holes without being too penal. The greens on all of the golf courses were in great condition and overall we found them to be testing but overly difficult.
Also, the weather was incredible at 30-31 degrees every day. All the family had a great time, not just the golfers, which speaks volumes for the quality of the resort. We are already looking at dates for next year’s golf break and we are longing to play these great courses again. We will be in touch soon as Your Golf Travel are clearly the way to go if you want a hassle free golf holiday.
Quinta do Lago's new North Course is looking radiant after the €10 million refurbishment the course has undertaken during the last 10 months.
American Architect Beau Welling and Europe's most recent Ryder Cup winning Captain Paul McGinley have done a fantastic job in redeveloping the course and making it a much fairer test for the average golfer.
removal of a fair few trees, the fairways have been slightly widened, and you
now get a clear vision of where to aim your tee shots, adding a more forgiving
feel to each hole. The undulations in the greens add to the course's defence
and provide the green staff with plenty of options when it comes to interesting
Overall, the general flow of the course has been vastly improved and has given the course the "Wow Factor" that you would expect from Quinta do Lago's top course. Booking the 3 round package including Quinta do Lago's North, South and Laranjal adds the perfect variety to your golfing holiday and will leave you wanting to come back time after time.
one could stand on the 16th tee all day long, just trying to perfect that tee
shot! An inviting short hole from an elevated tee, with an amphitheatre style
green, this is a real gem and one of many highlights."
