Rudding Park is a proper all-rounder for a UK golf break. You've got a Martin Hawtree-designed championship course laid out across mature 19th-century parkland, plus a six-hole short course, driving range and short game area to perfectly warm your game up prior to stepping on the 1st tee.
The championship course is strategic rather than sheer test of length. The bunkering asks the right questions, the tree-lined holes frame shots nicely and the routing makes good use of the natural shape of the land. If you're a mid-handicapper you won't feel like you're being pulled from pillar to post all day, but you'll still need to think your way round if you want to score.
What really sets Rudding Park apart is that it's not just "golf and bed". The hotel and spa offering is strong enough to keep non-golfers happy, and the food is genuinely a reason to visit in its own right. You're also only three miles from Harrogate, so if the group fancies a wander, a coffee or a change of scene after golf, it's easy.
Rudding Park was named Best Hotel in England at the 2018 Visit England Awards for Excellence, which gives you a decent clue about the standard across the resort.
Who is this for? Golfers wanting a high-quality UK stay-and-play break with great practice options, strong dining within an award-winning resort.
Who is it best for? Mixed-ability groups, societies and couples who want parkland golf, a spa and somewhere you'll actually enjoy hanging around after the round.

The championship Hawtree Course was designed around the natural hazards and mature trees of the 19th century parkland in which it sits, bringing both charm and intrigue to the course. The greens and tees have been designed in line with USGA specifications, adding a touch of class to this lovely layout. Rudding Park has recently unveiled a new routing on its 18-hole Hawtree Course that takes inspiration from Augusta National.
As at the Georgia venue, the Yorkshire club’s own ‘Amen Corner’ on the 12th, 13th and 14th holes sees fairways and greens cut through mature woodland. Rhododendrons replace the azaleas and dogwood, with Rudding Park’s own version of Rae’s Creek coming into play on two holes. The signature 14th hole, aptly named Rhododendron Glade due to the flourish of colour surrounding the green during summer, is a 163 yard par 3, the green on which is well guarded by three bunkers at the front with another hidden from view to the right. The hole, which plays uphill and into the prevailing wind, is a challenge for golfers of all abilities with the undulating green making par no easy score.
The Repton Short Course offers ‘Golf in one Hour’ with six very different par 3 holes including a replica of the famous island green 17th at Sawgrass. In addition to both golf courses, a team of resident PGA Professionals, cutting edge practice facilities and an 18 bay floodlit driving range make Rudding Park the ultimate golfer’s venue.
Set within 300 acres on the southern edge of Harrogate, Rudding Park blends a Grade I listed Regency house with modern hotel comfort. The result feels smart without being stuffy, which is exactly what you want for a golf weekend, whether you're travelling as a couple or organising a society trip.
The hotel has 90 bedrooms with a clean, contemporary style and the kind of practical comforts that matter on a golf break: good beds, proper bathrooms and enough space to spread out over a two or three-night stay. Public areas are well set up for groups too, with different spots to suit the mood, from a relaxed drink in the bar to a longer dinner in the restaurant, conservatory or terrace.
If you're building a trip that needs more than 18 holes, the facilities do a lot of heavy lifting. The award-winning spa is ideal after golf, especially if you've walked the course, and there's also a gym for anyone trying to keep the routine going. A standout extra is the 14-seat private cinema, which is a great shout for an evening in if the weather turns or you've got a larger group looking for something different.
Food-wise, you've got two clear options. Clocktower is the relaxed choice, serving daily menus built around local, seasonal ingredients, with a bar, restaurant, conservatory and terrace so you can keep it casual or make it more of an occasion. If you want to push the boat out, Horto Restaurant holds three AA Rosettes and offers a Chef's seven-course tasting menu with optional wine pairing, alongside a Choice Menu that gives you flexibility without sacrificing quality.
The proximity to Harrogate, just three miles north, adds shops, bars and cultural attractions for those wanting to explore further. It's a setup that works for serious golf trips, mixed-ability groups and couples looking to pair rounds with relaxation and good food. Overall, it's a venue that works for golf-focused trips and for groups where not everyone is playing every day.

A beautiful hotel, with a real touch of class. All the facilities throughout the hotel are fantastic. We had a meal in the clocktower restaurant which was excellent. Our room was spotless, large comfortable bed and very well equipped. The nicest thing about the hotel however has to be the staff. They are very pleasant everywhere, and seem to genuinely enjoy helping the guests.

It was fun, but being only 6 holes it was over very quickly. The red tees though are too far forward, so I played off the yellow. The island hole is challenging!

The course has been redesigned in recent years and now has a more interesting layout. Some really nice holes. The round got very slow on the back 9, so I think some Marshalls might be helpful to make sure people are moving along. For early in the season after a rotten winter the condition was pretty good.
