Sandman Signature Newcastle Hotel is a smart city-centre base for golf breaks that want great courses within easy reach and plenty to do once the scorecards are signed. Set in a converted brewery opposite St James' Park, it mixes 4-star comfort with an unbeatable Newcastle location, ideal for societies and groups that like their golf days well organised and their evenings lively.
You're right in the middle of it: Quayside for bars and views, Northumberland Street for shopping and the Utilita Arena for events, all close enough that you can leave the taxi apps alone. If you fancy stretching the trip beyond the city, Northumberland's history and coastline are an easy add-on, from Hadrian's Wall to Alnwick Castle (famously used in the Harry Potter films), plus big stretches of beach within around 20 to 30 minutes by road or train.
The North East gives you options when it comes to golf. You're well placed for a mix of links and parkland courses in the region, with easy access out of the city by road and rail. Whether you're chasing championship tests along the coast or exploring historic inland layouts, you can play multiple courses without changing hotels, then return to a lively city base with everything laid on.
Who is this for?
Golf societies, groups of friends and couples who want a city break feel with golf built in, rather than a quiet resort bubble.
Who is it best for?

Housed in the old Scottish & Newcastle Brewery building, Sandman Signature blends the site's industrial character with modern rooms that work well for golf groups. With 170 rooms opposite St James' Park, it's a handy base if you want to be central without overcomplicating the trip.
A big plus for golfers is the in-room practicality. You get a microwave, fridge and tea and coffee facilities, which sounds small until you're sorting early starts, storing snacks for the day or grabbing something back in the room after a late one on the Quayside. Rooms are modern and comfortable, giving you a reliable reset between rounds without any fuss.
For groups, the city-centre setting does a lot of the heavy lifting. You can keep the trip simple, meet in the lobby or bar before heading out, then walk to a huge choice of restaurants and pubs when you're done. If you're planning multiple rounds across the North East, staying put in one base also means less packing, fewer transfers and more time focused on the golf.
The hotel sits within easy walking distance of Newcastle's main nightlife and dining areas, so you're not reliant on taxis or apps to get around. That makes it straightforward for groups who want to split up for the evening or meet back up later without complicated logistics. The location also puts you close to Newcastle Central Station, which is useful if you're arriving by train or planning day trips out to courses along the coast.
If you're organising a society trip, it's worth checking room types and any parking arrangements at the time of booking so you can match the set-up to your group and arrival plans. The hotel's central position means you're trading a resort-style setting for convenience and variety, which suits groups that value choice and flexibility over a self-contained bubble.
Shark Club Newcastle is the on-site option for food, drinks and sport, right by St James' Park. Expect a lively atmosphere, plenty of screens for live matches and a menu that leans into proper pub favourites with a modern edge. For golf groups it's an easy win: grab a bite, replay the best and worst swings of the day and get tomorrow's tee-time plan sorted without trekking across town. The drinks list covers cocktails, craft beers and the usual suspects, so you can keep the evening going without having to move on if the group's settled in.

Overall experience was good however there were a number of issues : We had requested to twin rooms but were initially given two doubles. This was then upgraded to to twins At breakfast we were told that each room only had one breakfast per room included in the price. Again this was sorted after some discussions. Car parking and payment again was a hassle.
