The food was excellent and the restaurant service was very good, which made dining an enjoyable experience. The golf course was fantastic and a real highlight of the stay. Unfortunately, the bar closed too early without any notice, and the sports bar was quite dire in both atmosphere and offering. The room itself was adequate but would certainly benefit from an update. Changing and locker facilities were very poor and rather depressing, which was disappointing given the otherwise impressive setting. The general areas appeared to lack effective management, and maintenance overall was noticeably poor. Despite these shortcomings, the hall itself is truly magnificent and has the potential to provide a first-class experience with some much-needed attention and investment.

I fully expected a ‘reduced choice menu’ for the dinner and obviously expected to pay for any beverages, but was a little disappointed to be presented with a menu and then advised we had a budget of £30 from it, once this amount was reached we would have to pay the difference. When I’m booking on the basis of ‘dinner, bed & breakfast with 2 rounds of golf’ that’s what I expect to get.

The stay was generally thought to be good value for the price we paid. On a personal level, I had issues with my card key not working properly, no towels in the room on arrival. This resulted in numerous visits to reception, probably about a 350 yard round trip.

Spent 2 nights as part of golf trip with friends. Hotel was lovely, friendly, helpful staff. Room (although a hike from reception) was comfortable, spotlessly clean and spacious. Dining was great...very tasty especially in the evening. Breakfast, buffet style,plentiful, perfect to stock up for the course..although chef could do with a lesson on fried eggs...more like hockey pucks. Bar prices a bit steep..London prices in Cheshire isn't good. Overall 8.5/10

Hotel needs some TLC. Single room small no hairdryer bathroom like a cupboard. Bar ran out of favourite beers. Evening meal was fairly good, at least cooked freshly. Breakfast disappointing. Buffet style and bacon sausage and eggs were all hard as been out for a long time. We ate at 8.20am so should have been fresh.

Not great asked for a double room for someone with mobility issues. Had to change on arrival as it was a twin…. Got a room with a very small double bed. Odd dusty furniture lighting & decor. No opening windows on a very hot w/e. Had to have the fan on continuously. First impressions were a bit tacky and staff were tired from a late event previous evening. Had to persuade them to get us a coffee on arrival after a long drive. Wedding in progress Saturday so again grounds & hotel very busy. We were told breakfast at 7am no hot food until 7:30am…. Settled down on Sunday. 2 course meal was excellent both nights. Service better Sunday. Lots of glasses left around on tables inside and outside - tables felt sticky.

The hotel needs extensive refurbishment. Great setting and location but filled with cheap tacky furniture considering it’s a beautiful building. It needs a fresh lick of paint and some ‘TLC’ as we found it quite disappointing in all honesty. The rooms were basic, and that’s being nice with poor facilities and a shower that I can only describe as a dribble. We booked breakfast at 10am to arrive at a free for all, no structure, over 50 people queuing up at a buffet with nowhere to sit questioning the reason behind a booking system if it’s ineffective. A round of 4 drinks was around £31, no one minds paying these prices in a high end bar with an expensive interior but sitting on plastic chairs with unstable tables is not the experience we expect. I wouldn’t stay here again until a serious amount of money is spent on the overall interior and furnishing.

Absolutely fantastic weekend. Great place! As soon as you arrive you notice the lovely views over Manchester, an interesting place to stay too with so much character in every room/ area of the hotel too. Comfortable beds, nice rooms, really good food and I thought the allowance we got to spend through your golf travel was very fair. The drinks were on the expensive side but not enough to put me off having a night in the bar 🤣 enjoyed the pub quiz. Can not wait to return to be honest. Thank-you to everyone involved!

Our room was tired and cold . Big draft from the window . The shower was cold too and the temp couldn’t be turned up anymore , and no option to turn the radiator on . The tv control didn’t work and my bedside lamp didn’t work . It was on a deal for golf break but it still wasn’t a cheap stay and we expected better . The staff were lovely , good gorgeous but wine completely over priced and wasn’t that nice either .

Party of 32 arrival16th June.on arrival was greeted with friendly receptionist who explained times of check in and dining times and facilities hotel was clean with nice staff in all areas.accommodation was good with comfortable beds and nice bathrooms and also very clean.I asked if we could get an earlier dinner reservation as England were playing at 8pm and the man behind the bar in the clubhouse bar went out of his way to get us a 7.15pm reservation special thanks to him ( forgot his name sorry).thanks to Barry again for arranging our trip everyone enjoyed it.good value for money.

The hotel was ok, you could see there were some areas that needed a little TLC. However, the staff were great, as was the food. The golf course was challenging but in good condition. The only minor issue we found with the golf course was the greens. Just before we tee’d off, all the greens were covered with sand and the next day all the greens were being sprayed. Overall great value for money.

Good room, be aware. The listed facilities cost extra and were full on all three days I was there. Shouldn't advertise a swimming pool without the warning that you have to book it. I was on an all-inclusive stay and play deal. The restaurant menu is VERY limited and most items require you to pay a supplement, also you may only have starter and main course, you cannot choose to have main and pudding.

Perfect setting,grand hotel from the outside and communal areas.Rooms were clean but tired and in need of some TLC. Staff were mostly friendly but service was very slow in the restaurant and also in the bar areas. Found it very disappointing that you were expected to pay £60 for the use of the leisure facilities were as at other hotels that we have stayed in the past have always been free to guests except for additional treatments like massages etc.

Given a refurbished room with large bed ; tea/coffee making facilities; good sized bathroom. Nice lady checked us in after golf and told us about the different bars and we could book dining times for the evening meal and breakfast . There wasn’t a huge choice of food in the restaurant - we could have 2 courses and anything extra had to be paid for. Our food was nice other than the garlic bread which was cold and sent back for a replacement. My main criticism was that they were very slow at clearing tables and the drinks were very expensive. A pint of shandy and a pint of cider in the bar was £12 . A pint of lager in the restaurant was over £7. Two pints of coke in the golf lodge - a very basic place to drink - was £9.90 ! That said we’re not big drinkers and so it wasn’t a major issue.

Hotel was nice but staff didn’t seem to know what was going on. Had dinner booked for 07:30 starters didn’t arrive until 8:30 and mains didn’t arrive until 9:15pm. Food wasn’t that great either and lucky we had it as part of our original booking price because if we had had to pay £18.50 for a burger and chips we would have been even less happy. One bar man on in the main bar trying to serve a constant queue of about 10 people took over 30minutes to get served. One lady (didn’t get her name) was trying to be helpful and if it wasn’t for her I think we would have walked out.

Overall we had a pleasant stay at this hotel. Some parts of the building are getting a little "tired" though that doesn't really affect your stay. The food was god, though some of our gang of 32 would have been happier with something more down-to-earth. Bear in mind that you can't use the spa without paying extra. Anyway, we would definitely go again.

ShriglHall is really nice, beautiful decorated in a gorgeous location with wonderful views in the edge of the Peak District. We had a Sunday / Monday golf package which was amazing value for two rounds of golf, dinner, bed and breakfast. Food was very nice, but limited choice on the main menu. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. Drinks were very expensive. We hadn't paid the extra for the very large outside jakusi with amazing views. Rooms were fresh and comfortable. Likely to return with my wife.weater was out of this world for early April which was such a bonus.

Room was comfortable if dated in decor, the actual hotel building is stunning,as a golf break you could not ask more for the course, however the 3rd booked round could only be made available in the afternoon, which we cancelled as a round typically took 4.5 hours and with a 4 hour drive home proved impractical, so If we did it again would try and arrange early morning tee on last day.The hotel also hosts weddings which made a noisy night for sleeping but to be expected, overall loved the course but would have to be more careful on booking arrangements for room and tee slots.

Lovely hotel. I was in the newer part of the hotel so the room was quite standard. The other members of our group were in the older part and seemed to have much nicer rooms. The bar is very expensive and the restaurant food was nice but not very big portions. While it more likely to be an issue with the booking company, one of our party had to withdraw because his wife gave birth 9 weeks early. Neither the hotel or booking company were willing to provide a refund which I found disappointing

We were a group of 13 staying overnight on a golf break with dinner B&B. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful. For the evening meal we we’re sensibly seated well away from other guests who were mostly couples. This suited us as we could have a good time without fear of upsetting anyone. The dinner choice was varied and we all got served together. The room I was allocated was in the ‘new wing’ which was a bit of a trek as the hotel is vast. It was very clean and well laid out with nice extra touches. My only slight criticism is that there was no shelf in the shower to put shampoo etc. The buffet breakfast was fantastic with the dishes being refreshed regularly. We didn’t get chance to try the leisure facilities but the outside jacuzzi looked very inviting and the gym appeared well equipped. Okay, the drinks are expensive (even with our 20% off for 12+) but this is not unusual for a hotel. Overall a great experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to return either as a group or just as a couple.

While the hotel is lovely, the wifi coverage is very poor and patchy and zero phone signal - its 2021 and hotels can easily have full coverage wifi, especially with no phone signal. You also do not get access to the pool, that is an extra cost of £40 upwards - not great.

There is no air con in the room and one tiny fan that could only be plugged in at the opposite end of the room. So it was rather difficult to sleep because of the heat.

A very tired looking hotel. The room was tiny and looking worn. General communal spaces also very tired looking. The food was acceptable but again very average, poor choice and the need I had was like a dried out boot. The golf lodge looked like a shack from a hillbilly movie. Don’t like leaving negative reviews but just saying it as it was. We paid for a Sunday driver, two rounds and DB&B for £109 so I guess you get what you pay for but having done this type of deal at various other hotels around the north/north east it is probably the worst for accommodation/food. Staff were all very helpful in general but reception seemed like they were still in training. Sorry….. Darren + 5 other middle aged golfers.

Staff were very helpful and the rooms were great. The food was lovely but the portions were not anywhere near big enough after golfing all day. Some of the lads went straight to the bar to order more food after the meal. Drinks were very expensive even with a 20% discount. We didn't male use of the leisure facilities but the pool looked great.

Small but of high standard comfortable bed.God dining room good food and wine and tasty cooked breakfast,staff very friendly helpful and efficient. Excellent stay. Our group of 12 very positive overall about our stay. Comfortable rooms. Staff were responsive and helpful. Good food and great value overall. Slight drawback was poor signage inside the hotel meaning some of our group got lost in the maze of corridors at times. Also, ended up having breakfast at 07.00am as this was the only time left when we hadn't been advised of the need to book a time in advance - a casualty of the Covid regime and new protocols and overall, only a small blot on a generally very positive experience.

We arrived and filled out our evening meal forms, played golf and when we went to check in there was no record of us staying in the hotel ? About an hour later the staff had sorted rooms for the 16 of us but some of the rooms had not been cleaned and even had food on trays from departing customers. We were approximately an hour late for our 6.45 meal time meaning our pre ordered meals had been re heated. Not really what you want after a long day.

Disappointing . Very crowded with conference/ get together for camp organisers. Room overlooked two roof tops and top of a tree. Dining room lacking in atmosphere, but understand new owners are trying to update. Breakfast was so crowded and not enough staff. The building itself is lovely and the entrance hall and staircase elegant. Overall we were very disappointed.

problems started on arrival with large queues waiting to book in made worse with only 1 person plus a trainee on the desk also men working on electrics ect behind desk the room 4x4 metrs no cupboards or drawers small metal frame to hang clothes 1 small chair bad smell from bathroom these rooms are only fit for single occupancy large dogs locked in rooms barking for hours food very poor breakfasts cold even when first out room cleaners arrive to service at 5.30 as you are preparing to dress for dinner this hotel is very short of staff with no senior in attendance i could go on but this hotel would be shamed by a travelodge faulty towers comes to mind we shall not return

My room was tired and in need of refitting and decorating.Our booking was made for twin rooms but we were booked in doubles. I had given a list of guests to YGT so it would be sorted when we arrived. Having to ask for discount every time we used the bar is crazy, a card should be issued to all golfing guests to show at the bar. The discount we thought we were getting was not deducted unless we asked for it every time. Many of us did not get it until the second night. Very poor attention to our rights. However the food was good and plentiful although it could be hotter and the course was terrific. Overall we had a great few days Thank you.

The hotel is set within beautiful surroundings, and although we stayed during a busy time (Masters weekend) the vastness meant that we never felt on top of other people. Although the room we stayed in was slightly dated, all the amenities are very good. It appeared that some rooms were going through an upgrade so I hope this continues throughout the hotel. Overall the hotel was well equipped, the staff very helpful and friendly, and the food was also very good.

Lovely venue with bags of history and great location with striking views towards Manchester and surrounding area. The accommodation is spread over three adjoining wings so a lot of walking back and forward to the facilities if you happen to be in the third wing. Our room was very spacious and new though in the attic space and not sure I'd like it in a hot summer. Great views however. No storage space which was a little weird so all our clothes had to stay in the suitcases. Restaurant very good, let down a little bu an almost identical menu on both the two nights we stayed and the choice was limited. We both made one wrong choice of food. The food was well presented and the staff really good. It's a very popular wedding venue which can be both nice and tiresome.

The hotel looks and feels tired, the lock on the room door constantly had an alarm going off every time we left the room ( faulty door handle), the room was a double but felt quite basic. The spa was a disappointment for a number of reasons, firstly the changing rooms were been refurbished so you had to change in bedroom 101 then walk quite a long distance in your swimming trunks to the spa, no dressing gowns were available in the changing rooms , there was no way of locking the lockers so I had to leave my clothes in an unlocked locker, I had to take valuables with me to the pool, the steam room was faulty, I eventually found a member of staff to report it to who told me he knew and someone had been called out, so it was just a case of sauna and pool.The golf course was ok, semi rough was a little long and needed cutting as it was easy to lose a ball only a couple of feet off the fairway, we paid for a buggy which ran out of battery after 9 holes, we changed it but it added 15 mins to our round.The evening dinner was superb although the staff seemed a little lost if not slow, we had to repeatedly ask where drinks we had ordered were, the manager became aware and did in fairness knock one round off our bill.

We were given a 3pm tee time on arrival day which is too late to get round 18 holes. Buggy expensive for the restricted use we got from it but liked the gps screen. We found this course challenging as beginner golfers but it had good vibes and was very different and you knew you were in the Peak District!

Shrigley Hall is actually a gem. I’m a 2 handicap and found it a real challenge. The first three holes are very average. Once you move to the par 5 fourth the round really begins. The course is situated on a beautiful piece of land and all the remaining holes are interesting and memorable. The greens were excellent and very challenging. You really have to think your way around the course. We were happy to play it twice. It really helps to know where you are going. Great track, very poor off course facilities.

Should have a marshall at one stage there was two three balls and a two ball waiting on the tee took 3 hours for 10 holes. I am anything but sexist but the four-ball holding everyone up had two women that was at least in their 70's it's great they are still playing but was horrendous being behind them

Golf course was in lovely condition, greens were excellent, the best I’ve played this year, golf on Sunday was very slow as we were following a group in buggies of which have to stay on the buggy paths, understandably due to weather conditions, having a buggy definitely makes the round go slower, players having to walk 100 yards to the opposite side of the fairway to play a shot then walk back 100 yards to get back in buggy, speed of play could be quicker

OK it was very dry weather. Greens had been watered and were very good and smooth. Fairways and tees were rock hard. Hilly undulating course with blind doglegs left and right. Even if you hit a decent shot to the high part your ball just ran away with no clue as to where to start looking. Lost plenty of balls. Buggy at £40 very expensive. As seniors and never having played the course you would have to have a trip round to even have a chance to get an idea. Didn’t even bother playing it the second day. Went back to home course.

Great course and great condition for this time of year. Some fantastic and really tough funky holes with challenging greens. The quality of the golf shop/bar was quite underwhelming in all honesty, the only thing I could describe it as is a shed with a balcony. Really dated wooden building with poor facilities inside. Can’t fault the course but the clubhouse and hotel were disappointing.

The course in general was in brilliant condition with testing and quick greens. The bunkers however, were in terrible shape with very little sand and what appeared to be zero preparation making bunker shots a nightmare. One too many blind holes as well with poor mapping which made the first round tricky as we were left to guess on 50% of the holes where we were heading. Also we were lucky enough to have amazing weather which made it very disappointing that the half way house was closed on both days and there were zero water stations on the course. Luckily we were in buggies and had a reasonable supply but other golfers on foot seemed weary to say the least so buggies are a must.

Played 3 rounds over 3 days. I am a 54year old 14 handicap. Course really interesting and challenging, no two holes are the same. I pushed a trolley round and it nearly killed me. The course is very hilly so book a buggy well in advance. Pace of play was excellent all three days. First round was in evening and I was plagued by thousands of flies so better off with a morning tee time!

Lovely testing golf course which was in great condition during our stay.The only downside was the pace of play which was painfully slow on 2 out of the 3 rounds we played. We felt this could have been avoided if there had possibly been a marshal out on the course. We will definitely return again as this was an enjoyable course to play.

It was raining quite hard when we started so decided on a buggy - it’s a long course which we hadn’t anticipated and we were very pleased with our decision . The greens were immaculate and very fast with some very tricky holes. The signage isn’t that great and we did miss a hole and had to go back to find it! Some very interesting holes - one over a farm track;a great par 3 down a steep hill, one up a steep hill and the 18th a par 3 over the pond! Day 2 we walked - not sure we made the right decision - as the weather was so much better and it is a very long tiring course - about 16000 steps! Well worth £30 on a buggy! Very enjoyable couple of days trying somewhere new . We recommend it .

The course was immaculate,. Velvet greens that were absolutely lightening and really difficult to read,., So much turn due to speed… That said, they were still receptive with the shorter irons,., . I marked it as a hard course but that was mainly due to very dry conditions.. It’s not particularly long so in normal conditions I’d mark it as an average difficulty…Very fair,., a couple blind tee shots, but no real danger unless you hit an absolute shocker… Great course..

The first four holes on this course are slightly nondescript, but the course then really gets going. There are some fascinating holes and the design is very good. The aspect that affected our scorecards the most was the greens. They were in good condition and ran very true, but they are tricky to read and putts you expect to go one way are prone to going the other. We played it in lovely weather; I got the impression that parts of it may be a bit boggy when it's really wet. The pro (George) was extremely helpful, as were all of the staff in The Lodge (the clubhouse). Definitely worth a visit and we would certainly go again.

We are only average players but found the course enjoyable but challenging. Plenty of hills to walk up so on the second day we decided to have buggies and found it more enjoyable. Best to look at the map on the scorecard if you are unfamiliar with the course as the next tee isn’t obvious or marked out very well .

Great test of golf this course. It’s a good testing walk and loads of golfers use the buggies but we preferred to walk. Greens were fast but true, fairways and tee boxes were spot on. Loved the course and will definitely return.

Course was in excellent condition for early April and the greens were first class, far superior to our own course. We had two days sunshine which was wonderful. The course is quite hilly, but the bonus is the amazing views. Many very interesting and challenging holes. By the end we were all feeling a bit tired so second day we hired a buggy at only £30. Definitely advise you to do this as this massively increased our enjoyment on the second day. Nice little golf bar next to hotel which serves snacks. Thoroughly recommend this course, but hire a buggy, as most people did

Tee time to late on last day had to cancel. Would reccomend buggy on your first round as it is a long course easy to get mis directed, very slow rounds, we were a 2 ball in a buggy that took 5 hours on the Saturday and 4.5 hours on the Friday, the actual course was an excellent challenge and would certainly play again.

The course is a real challenge, very demanding. It’s very interesting, different to any other course the vast majority of my party of 24 had played before. Nonetheless, we all enjoyed it. To a man, we would all go back to Shrigley Hall. A suggestion to the more senior golfers ….. have a buggy.

Beautiful course, quite a lot of blind shots which was challenging for us who had never played the course before. Definitely need a buggy. Our group of 13 had playing handicaps varying from 9 to 30. We played the course on consecutive days and almost everyone found the it tough going. The course is very hilly with severe sloping fairways. Course planning is essential as a good drive to the wrong side of the fairway can be rewarded by finding the rough or even the penalty area. The first day conditions were varied with blustery winds and at one point a whiteout with sideways hail. The greens were really slow but fairly true. The short par 3 eighth caused no end of trouble. Best score was 27 Stableford points. The second day was much kinder and scores improved. Unless you are very fit, a buggy is a must. Opinions on the course from our group were mixed with our 9 handicapper calling it a ‘Micky Mouse’ designed course which punished too many good shots. Nothing to do with the fact he had a bad couple of days perhaps?! Others found it challenging but still enjoyable. Staff in the small pro shop and golfers bar were very helpful. A great couple of days.

It was exceptionally wet when we went - so not easy to rate the condition - but for the amount of rain it was in very good nick. some stunning views from the course though a lot of hills to climb. The clubhouse is pretty old and run down and was closed on Friday afternoon - doesn't compare to other courses we have been where the whole set up is miles better. Be aware - YGT will give you early tee times at the weekend and then change them at the very last minute to after 11am - the club tell us there are no early tee times at the weekend as they are all reserved for members - pretty poor from YGT as it is obviously a tactic - this meant we never got our game on the Sunday as we wanted to be home before midnight!

Our first round was very slow due to a group of four that was a couple of groups ahead of us, they recommend buggies for a reason! The course is very well maintained with some tricky holes, especially when it’s the first time you’ve played it. Worth going ahead in the buggy to see where you’re heading if you have time. The greens were excellent and tricky to read. I really enjoyed the playing it.

Really nice course with some very interesting holes. Could do with more sign posting to each tee as there is quite a gap between some of the tees. Also there could be a hole guide on each hole as there are a LOT of blind tee shots. The only hole to have one is the first tee. Super condition, nice greens which make you think!! Definitely hire a buggy as it's a very long walk otherwise. All in all a really enjoyable course to test your tee shot placements.

Good

Didn’t start well with the course being very wet following heavy rain. It is incredibly undulating not only up and down with some mountainous climbs but from side to side. Almost every shot was played with a uphill or downhill lie or the ball above or below your feet. That said the fairways were decent and the greens were pretty quick. I would say they weren’t particularly true with a bit of bobbling going on. The bunkers are hard for me to comment on as they were either full of water or washed away. The course layout was good and space is certainly no problem and there are some very challenging holes and the scenery was amazing. Great videos across the countryside and of Manchester. One area that would be a one star for me is the paths, steps and general areas out of play of the course, very shabby. My main recommendation, and I never do this, would be to hire a buggy, that or bring breathing apparatus.

A really nice course, let down by slow play and a lack of a marshal or really anyone who cared about speeding things up. The course was in good condition, with well cut tees and greens that were a good test. The fairways were also in nice condition, but the rough was brutal…. Anywhere off the fairway, it’s a lost ball! Slow Play - To be fair, the Sunday we played, the course was quiet, so we finished in reasonable time. Unfortunately, Monday was much busier and the game was ruined by slow play… we came off the course after 9 holes (over 2 1/2 hours) having paid £60 for buggies! I attended the pro shop and received a dismissive, standard response of “There’s nothing we can do!”. It was a really disappointing, uncaring response, which left a sour taste in the mouth. Unfortunately, experiences like this put you off returning, and this is certainly the case for Shrigley Hall.

Found some parts difficult as didn't know way round or what to expect especially on the 7th hole!!!! Also found ladies tees behind some of the mens very strange. Overall first 6 holes were good, the 7th a nightmare and the back nine extremely difficult for lady players as my wife found being a novice but thankfully it hasn't put her off trying other places.

Arrived in the afternoon for a booked 1.00pm tee time. All good, the course was quite wet and the greens had been scarified but overall a very nice course. Next morning we were early finishing breakfast so went to see if we could tee off earlier than our 10.30 booking. We were told someone had tried to contact us to advise us our tee time had been changed to firstly 7.30 and then 9.20! It was 9.45 by this time. As far as I was concerned no one had tried to get hold of us. Then saw a confirmation of booking email had come through with the new tee time on. It wasn't an alert email and I had already received a confirmation of booking and thought it was a duplicate as it seemed to be informing me your golf travel had received payment. We were informed we had to be off the 16th hole by 1.00pm as they had a shot gun start. We raced round and just made it. Not very happy experience!

Golf course is in good condition, the greens were very good. We were lucky to have sunny weather so really enjoyed both rounds, although a buggy was a good idea. Both rounds were very slow because we ended up behind several groups of very slow women who didnt wave us through but still enjoyable.

An interesting, undulating course with a number of testing and challenging holes for the high handicapper golfers, especially when playing it for the first time. In good condition, busy but never held up and friendly bar and golf staff in the Golf Lodge. Although I did not use a buggy this is a course where the less ambulant golfers might benefit from using one. A first class course in lovely countryside with tremendous views. I would recommend and would plan to return to play it again.

If we had played this course on a lovely summer's day then I could have written a completely different review! That being said, although the wind was ridiculous, the course was very fun, with not one hole being below par! One downside would be the over-hiring of buggies by certain groups, with some players having one to themselves in a group of four. We played behind some lovely older gentlemen who were visibly struggling with the steep inclines towards the end of the rounds - I would recommend booking these in advance. Overall the course was immaculate, the greens were quick but very receptive, and the overall layout made for a good challenge.

A very mountainous course; steep inclines in every direction, left, right, up and down so keeping the ball on the short grass was a significant challenge on most holes. Unfortunately they had hollow tined the greens just a few days before our visit and hadn't dressed them with sand so the holes made putting in a straight line almost impossible. The 5th green felt like stimp 10; the 18th green in comparison would be stimp 4 and every other green anywhere in between. It made consistent putting impossible. Some of the course was quite scruffy but it is a very large, centuries old estate in need of investment and the money available is all going on the accommodation in the main house. We were a two ball in amongst mainly 3's and 4's so very slow for us. Most golfers were poor/high handicap societies in buggies so quite slow golf. I wouldn't personally go back again but it is worth at least one visit just to stay in the hotel.
