Slammer & Squire Course, World Golf Village

If you fancy a World Golf Village round that won't beat you up all day, Slammer & Squire is a great shout. It's a proper championship setup, but it doesn't rely on brutal length to be fun. Opened in 1998, this 18-hole resort course offers generous fairways and contoured greens that reward smart play over brute force, all set against the backdrop of the World Golf Hall of Fame. While it may be shorter and more forgiving than its neighbour, the King & Bear, the Slammer & Squire has previously hosted a Senior PGA Tour event, which tells you plenty about the standard of the setup.

It's playable from the tee, but the score is decided on and around the greens. Give yourself the right angles in and you'll have birdie looks, miss the wrong side and it's a very different putt. The contouring can be subtle or severe depending on pin position, so course management matters here just as much as ball-striking. Views across the property and towards the Hall of Fame add a sense of occasion without distracting from the golf itself.

Off the course, the facility is well set up for a full day out. Warm up on the range and practice area before you go, then head to the restaurant and bar afterwards for a relaxed bite and a drink. Handy if you're on a short break and want everything in one place. If you're putting together a Florida golf break, this is an easy one to pair with King & Bear for two contrasting rounds at the same venue.

Who is this for?
Golfers visiting World Golf Village who want a high-quality resort course that's enjoyable for a range of abilities, with strong practice facilities and dining on site.

Who is it best for?
Mid-to-high handicappers and groups looking for a fun, playable championship test that rewards strategy over power, with the convenience of a full resort experience. More forgiving than King & Bear, but still a championship feel.

Slammer & Squire Course

Designer Bobby Weed was aided by Sam ‘The Slammer' Snead and Gene ‘The Squire' Sarazen, two of golf's most celebrated players, and the course today bears their names. Presenting golfers with views over the World Golf Hall of Fame, the Slammer & Squire measures 6,939, and with varying tee boxes it is a good test for all golfers.

The short holes are the most enjoyable at the Slammer & Squire, an excellent choice for any visitor to the Jacksonville area, and certainly for those staying at the World Golf Village.
