Augusta National is surrounded by a mystical aura that no other golfing venue in the world can rival; intensely private, the masses are afforded only a fleeting glimpse of the iconic golf course every April, when the US Masters circus descends on Georgia.
Augusta is home to what many view as the world's greatest golf course so it is rather fitting that the course, which admittedly has seen many changes throughout its history, was originally designed by the illustrious duo of the world's greatest golfer at the time, Bobby Jones, as well as the game's preeminent course architect, Dr Alister MacKenzie.
Jones and Mackenzie’s creation is surely as close to architectural perfection as is possible, carved into a landscape of almost indescribable beauty. The impeccably manicured fairways snake around babbling brooks, and are lined by great stands of monumental pine trees.
Every hole is individually named in homage to a different plant, which is a fitting tribute to the now famous banks of azaleas and rhododendrons that add such incredible colour to the picture, striking a powerful contrast with the unspoiled white sand of the colossal bunkers.

After two rounds at the Champions Retreat in Evans, 30 women took to Augusta National in a competitive environment for the first time, a notable point in golf history.
Ceremonial opening drives from Pak Se-ri, Lorena Ochoa, Nancy Lopez and Annika Sörenstam were witnessed by Fred Ridley, Augusta’s chairman, Condoleezza Rice, an Augusta member, and the two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson.
England’s Alice Hewson was one of the 30 women who made the cut and her score of 72 around Augusta helped her clinch 10th place. But it was the world’s top-ranked amateur, Jennifer Kupcho, who produced an excellent 67 to beat Mexico’s Maria Fassi by four shots. Kupcho's 10-under-par total for the tournament included playing the last six holes in 5 under par.
