0800 043 6644The Vila Galé Santa Cruz hotel is located in the wonderful Santa Cruz town, on the southeast coast in a seafront position that is just 15 minutes from Funchal, a town with a good mix of old and new featuring 16th century architecture and a popular marina and Lido.
The hotel features 262 rooms and enjoys a cosy ambience and has a comprehensive range of facilities including three 3 bars and two restaurants - its superb Inevitável Pasta Lounge restaurant offers a menu featuring only the best pastas and Italian sauces. There's also a spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a fitness room, Jacuzzi, Turkish baths and a children's mini club, plus a golf desk and clubs closet for the golfing enthusiast.
The rooms of the Santa Cruz Hotel are fitted with LCD screen TVs, DVD player, and wireless Internet connection, ensuring your stay is as comfortable as possible. Standard rooms sleep up to 3 adults with twin beds, a camp bed or similar and bathroom, air-conditioning, minibar and balcony.
Outside, features include Olympic-sized pool, as well as a poolside bar, a kids club, a Spa with a fitness room, a Jacuzzi, a Turkish bath or Roman hot spring and a car park for those that wish to rent a car. There's also a shuttle to Funchal.
Huge hotel, only a quarter full. Not all facilities open. Lots of advertising around in English for other hotels in the group but nothing about hotel facilities. Breakfast would be a scrum down if the hotel was fuller.
Hotel was very clean and tidy, staff very friendly and helpful, evening meals not much choice and expensive.
Rooms are quite normal mid range no-frills rooms. Air-con works fine. No tea facilities. Bed OK. Bathroom OK with good shower. All very clean. Restaurant fantastic for breakfast - huge buffet selection and an egg-man. couldn't fault the food but only one expresso coffee machine plus an urn of the usual industrial stuff. Good selection of tea. Dinner set price buffet a bit disappointing, but OK for the price. You don't come here for the wine.
