Set beneath the Puig Campana Mountain, Meliá Villaitana is a proper fly-and-flop golf base on the Costa Blanca. You've got two 18-hole courses on site, both designed by Jack Nicklaus, plus a big spa and plenty of food and drink options for when the scorecard needs forgetting. The resort sits less than 15 minutes from Benidorm and just 40 minutes from Alicante Airport, so you can be teeing off within an hour of landing if your flight times are kind.
The Levante and Poniente courses are the main draw here, both offering distinct tests that showcase Nicklaus's design philosophy across contrasting terrain. Between rounds you'll find an extensive spa, multiple restaurants serving everything from local cuisine to Italian fare, and a choice of bars including the Papa Mambo Jazz Bar. The resort's architecture blends modern elegance with Mediterranean warmth, creating a base that works equally well for golf-focused trips and mixed groups looking to combine quality golf with resort relaxation.
If you want to explore beyond the resort, you're a short drive from beaches, Serra Gelada Natural Park and Benidorm's lively nightlife, though with two Nicklaus-designed 18-hole courses, quality dining and strong leisure facilities all on site, many golfers find little reason to leave.
Who is this for?
Groups who want 36 holes on site, easy transfers from Alicante and a lively base near Benidorm for dinners and nights out.
Who is it best for?
Societies who want a straightforward resort set-up with minimal logistics, couples pairing golf with spa time, and golfers who like variety across two Nicklaus designs rather than playing the same 18 all week.

The Levante course is the championship offering at the Melia Villaitana resort and with 106 bunkers and 3 lakes to navigate, it’s a tester. However, don’t be discouraged as five tee box options mean you can enjoy this course no matter what level you play at. The views on the course are special no matter what way you look. Some holes have a mountain backdrop and others have the stunning buildings of the resort, the course really has some wonderful views.
The 220-yard par-3 12th hole is one of the highlights of the round on the Levante course. This tricky hole is protected by four deep bunkers and the green is in a natural amphitheatre. A par here is a great score so if you make one, be happy and move on to the next! The Nicklaus Design team like to make long and challenging courses with a real American feel, this course definitely fits this mould.
The Levante course at Villaitana is ranked as one of the best courses in Costa Blanca

Nestled on the hillside and seamlessly blending into the wooded surrounds, the Poniente course is a beautiful track for an evening game or for those newer to golf. With four tee box options and shorter holes, you can take the kids around this course or use it to work on your own short game. It is one of those courses out there that just bring joy to your day as you play it. Wonderful pine trees and streams decorate the course as well as give you challenges to negotiate whilst you’re out there.
The 284-yard third hole is one of the gems on this course. It’s one of the tougher holes on the course with bunkers awaiting errant tee shots, but the views of Benidorm and the Costa Blanca make it an easy hole on the eye.

Before you tee it up on either course you should visit the well-stocked pro shop and then hit the excellent practice facilities for a warm-up. The buggies at the resort have GPS so that you know how far you are from the green on each shot and so you don’t get lost when you’re on the course.
The range is a real strength of the Meliá Villaitana Resort with thirty bays and well over 300-yards to play with. Two putting greens are also on hand to help you where it counts most. If you just fancy a day of working on your game you could even get a lesson at the on-site golf academy. As you would expect with a resort as nice as this one, the changing rooms have an air of modern luxury and give off the impression of a great golf experience before you have even hit a ball.
After the round you can wash-up here before heading to the terrace that overlooks the sea. This is the perfect setting to discuss the good, bad and ugly shots from your round whilst sipping on something cold and refreshing.
The hotel at Meliá Villaitana spans 25 buildings and offers 455 rooms across two distinct standards, catering to golfers who want straightforward comfort as well as those seeking a more premium stay. The resort's layout is spacious and modern, with architecture that blends contemporary design with Mediterranean influences, all set against the backdrop of the Puig Campana Mountain.
For golfers wanting a bit more luxury, 99 rooms fall under 'The Level' category, a more premium offering that includes private terraces, larger living spaces and access to upgraded service features. These rooms are ideal for couples or small groups who want a more refined experience, with additional perks that typically include enhanced in-room amenities and a more exclusive feel. The standard rooms are well appointed and comfortable, offering everything you need for a golf-focused break without the premium price tag, making them a solid choice for societies or budget-conscious travellers.
All guests have access to the resort's extensive facilities, including the spa, multiple pools and a range of dining options. The spa is a particular highlight, offering treatments designed to ease post-round aches and a tranquil environment to unwind after 36 holes. For those looking to stay active off the course, the resort can arrange activities ranging from mountain biking and horse riding in the nearby hills to water sports like kite surfing and sailing along the coast. Paragliding is also available for those chasing an adrenaline rush between rounds.
The resort's five restaurants ensure you won't tire of the dining options, even on longer stays. Casa Azul features interactive 'show cooking' where chefs prepare dishes in front of you, adding theatre to your meal. Indigo serves traditional Mediterranean cuisine with a focus on fresh, local ingredients, while Ristorante La Trattoria offers Italian classics in a relaxed setting. There's also a poolside restaurant for casual lunches and an international buffet for those who prefer variety and flexibility. When you're ready for a drink, the Papa Mambo Jazz Bar provides a laid-back atmosphere with cocktails and light snacks, perfect for recapping the day's golf.
The Meliá Villaitana hotel is located in the centre of Costa Blanca, just a short distance from Benidorm. Alicante Airport is only 50 kilometres away, making it a straightforward transfer for a golf holiday in Spain.

Had an amazing time in hotel. If was let down by the changes to our golf times. We had 1 pm starts booked months ago. And the day before it was changed to 850am. A. Nice breakfast and chill was ruined by having to rush around to get to the tee. All for of us are not happy about that

Hotel is great and a great location, facilities are brilliant and of a high standard. Staff attitude was awful throughout our stay, they were almost treating you like you were in the way

Hotel although on the big side, was ideal for the golf. Hotel was clean and staff generally friendly...

The main issue with the trip was that Yourgolftravel booked 2 male golfers into a double bed. In my opinion that is crazy! Surely when you know that it is an all-male golf party you should book a twin room as a matter of course and only ever book a double bed if it is specifically requested??? It took 24 hours of negotiating with the hotel to get our room changed - literally a dozen conversations over 24 hours, probably 4+ hours of our trip were spent trying to get our room changed.

The accommodation was very good. beds comfortable and room was attended to every day. Nice view over the pool area and beyond. We were disappointed that we were not allowed to use the Spa facility during our stay. The breakfast food was of high standard, although the hot food and drinks were always barely warm. This spoilt the overall enjoyment of the food

Every year I play the course and it’s amazing. This year I was very disappointed to be told the day before our round booked for 1pm that it had been changed to 850am. We are not happy as we like to get up at 8 and go to breakfast , then chill for a few hours. All 4 of us are not happy about this as we booked months ago , and stay in the hotel for the week. Best day of our stay. Staff were exceptional especially as they altered our T-Time due to late arrival as our transfer took us to the airport instead of the golf course resulting in us being late. Also helped out with transfer back to hotel due to taxi firm unable to alter pick up times.

very tight course with a few challenging holes, par threes are quite hard with no room for error, good track

Course very much needs some TLC, the condition of the tee boxes was awful, mainly playing off sand. No marshalls on course to maintain speed of course and at least some basic golf equiete in terms of speed of play etc... Would not play again...

An interesting course despite the short yardage. Good to play something different to the usual 18 hole layouts...

Greens had been hollow-cored and had sand spread all over them, very slow and bobbled a lot. Nobody in our 4-ball sunk a putt from longer than 6ft even though we all play off around 15 h'cap.
