What can I say but thoroughly enjoyable weekend for the six of us. The course is good and open with astonishing large bunkers! but also very forgiving for the type of golfer that I am. The food and service was also excellent. Many Thanks for the recommendation.
De Vere Wokefield Estate
Wokefield Estate may not be the longest track in the world at just under 7,000 yards, but it has been intelligently crafted by Jonathan Gaunt, who helped integrate the course in 1996 into an historic 18th century landscape setting. With USGA specification greens and tees, the course is presented in superb condition no matter when you visit.
The hotel combines modern furnishings with top class leisure facilities, outstanding food and service, to ensure a relaxing stay in this beautiful corner of rural Berkshire.

De Vere Wokefield Park
Berkshire is renowned for its idyllic countryside, and Wokefield Estate's tranquil surroundings are no different, resulting in a beautiful place to play golf. With no fewer than nine lakes littered around the course, there is no shortage of difficulty for visiting golfers to negotiate, but the outstanding surroundings should be enough to alleviate the pain of any disappointing golf.
The course is carved through elevated trees and mature oaks, along manicured fairways and immaculate putting surfaces. Besides the abundance of water, Gaunt has incorporated and abundance of huge bunkers throughout the course which place an emphasis on course management. Be warned, the rough is very penal if you stray from the fairways – so take plenty of golf balls!
There are several memorable holes throughout the round, particularly the par 5s, which require three good shots to have any chance of making birdie. The 9th is a classic risk/reward hole, where an ambitious drive over the water can leave a wedge to the green on this 450 yard dogleg.
Wokefield Estate is home to an excellent practice complex and driving range, where the PGA professionals offer expert technical guidance.
Signature Hole: 12th – Par 3, 195 yards
While the par 5s are all great challenges, it’s the par 3 12th that is worthy of a postcard. You’ll need a crisply struck medium-to-long iron to carry the glistening water that stands between you and the safety of the green. Even if you find the putting surface in regulation, the green’s severe undulations will make you work for your par. A terrific and beautiful golf hole.
Despite being just a few miles from junction 11 of the M4, you’ll feel a world away from civilisation at Wokefield Estate, which is nestled in a peaceful and picturesque corner of Berkshire.
The magnificent 18th century Mansion House blends traditional charm and character perfectly with the comfort that comes from a well-equipped modern hotel to offer visitors a memorable stay. The public areas are all warm and welcoming, while there are also tremendous conference facilities to underline the excellent overall package available to golf, leisure and business travellers.

We have just returned from our golf sunday special at Wokefield Park in Reading, the package you sold us was worth every penny and I thank you for your help in choosing this venue. The hotel was perfect, the staff were friendly and helpful, the golf was great, a very nice course with plenty of very large and well placed bunkers and plenty of water hazards to keep us on our toes. The golfing staff were very helpful as well, they even managed to tee us off a bit earlier today so we didn't get caught up in too much traffic on our home journey. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience and one that I hope later in the year we can repeat.... Thanks again....
I have to say that both my colleague and myself thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Reception was satisfactory, room was excellent and very well equipped. Staff in the bar and restaurants were friendly and helpful, food was very good and plentiful and there was no queuing for breakfast. I would not hesitate to return or recommend this location.
As for the golf? Great course, kept in excellent condition and a real challenge for the "social" golfer which I am. The rough was really rough - if you hit into the long grass, just forget about finding the ball (a combination of wet weather and glorious sunshine made it difficult to cut the long grass). Fairways were superb, greens fast and true. We had tremendous value from the course - played every fairway (not necessarily in the right order!) and the yards we walked were far in excess than the yardage on the scorecard.
Superb venue and a great experience all round, from booking the weekend to arriving home. Now looking forward to our next trip at Belton Woods in a weeks time. Many thanks for your help. Regards,
Weekend was good, hotel was large - rooms basic but comfortable - food at dinner good. We stayed in Mansion House but had to eat in the restaurant by the golf club which entailed a walk in stilleto's but not too much moaning from the ranks! Golf was good on the Saturday, we all liked the course and enjoyed the weekend.
Fantastic hotel, great food, superb golf course....although far too much sand for my liking!. Very friendly staff, overall.... absolutely superb value and the guys in the group couldn't believe what we got for the price! Cheers,
My brother and I recently went on a golf break to Wokefield Park near Reading. We booked a package that included a two night stay with three rounds of golf.
Recent road changes confused my Sat Nav but after a detour through very narrow country lanes we arrived at the entrance to the Hotel. As we approached the main entrance the golf course appeared flat and rather uninteresting. However as soon as our first round started we realised this was going to be a challenging and enjoyable course. The greens looked mottled but played very true and of a decent speed. I guess the lesson to be learnt is never judge a book by its cover!
Huge bunkers protected some of the greens and a straight forward drive and short or mid-iron course this was not going to be. Several holes were of risk and reward type with the 9th being a good example. A 450 yd hole that could be tamed with ease if you are brave enough to drive over the water.
Bunkers and water had been strategically placed and throughout our first attempt many unseen hazards were duly visited. Our following rounds were better because we had an understanding of how to manage the course appropriately.
The Hotel reception was particularly helpful and pleasant considering a party of over 300 people were also checking in for a weekend retreat. You could understand if that sort of work overload distracted the staff but they remained attentive and friendly throughout our stay.
We were asked to use the Maple Restaurant within the Hotel for our meals because of the number of people staying. I'm not sure whether this was standard for our particular booking but if not it was certainly a bonus. The food was excellent and service friendly and professional.
We had looked at booking at another venue our golf holiday but the dates we had picked were fully booked. Your Golf Travel recommended Wokefield Park as an alternative and I’m really glad you did. We were extremely happy with the arrangements and the efficiency of the whole service from YGT. The venue was great and you clearly know your stuff!
My husband and I go away on a couple of short golf breaks every year and have been booking through Your Golf Travel now for a number of years. Our most recent golf trip was to Wokefield Park in Berkshire.
The hotel was decent with spacious comfortable rooms. The food was good as well although it could have easily been better had it arrived at the table a bit hotter than it was!
The first day of the golf break looked set to be a disaster as the heavens opened; flooding the car park while we sat in our car! However we saw a glimmer of blue sky and even though we had missed our tee time the starter very kindly got us out on the course ahead of an impending society.
The golf course seems to be very popular with societies so I would recommend booking your golf break as a fourball. The course has a good layout and was in impressive condition. Many of the holes give the golfer multiple options which makes for an enjoyable round.
