Golf Courses at Woodbury Park Hotel, Golf & Country Club

Oaks Golf Course

The championship Oaks Course measures a mighty 7,314 yards at its fullest, and has established an enviable reputation as one of the best in the South-West. J. Hamilton-Stutt's layout is carved through the wonderful oaks that characterise the estate itself, and will present a considerable test for even the most talented golfers. The putting surfaces are guarded by expanses of sand, and are constructed to European Tour standards. The quality of the Oaks was underlined in 2003 when the course was selected to host a Seniors Tour championship.

As a very playable golf course, The Oaks at Woodbury is one that is suitable for a host of handicaps and contributes to Woodbury Park's position as one of the top-rated golf resorts in the South West of England.

The Oaks was also the host venue of The McGregor Trophy, a leading amateur event for U16 golfers with past champions including Justin Rose, Edoardo Molinari and Oliver Fisher. When played at Woodbury, Michael Skelton claimed the coveted title with a 4-round total of 289. Skelton's amateur career continued to sparkle with the highlight being appearing in The Walker Cup.

Acorns Golf Course

The nine-hole Acorns Course provides the perfect opportunity for a relaxing round if the lengthy Oaks seems too daunting, and is also ideal for those still learning the game. The joy of the Acorns is that its greens are maintained to the same high standard as its neighbour, while the views over the Exe Valley are truly memorable.

The 18th hole on the lakes will test your nerve - under the watchful gaze of those in the clubhouse, your approach shot must carry the threatening lake.

Hotel was comfortable - but nothing special. Décor a little tired. Booked half board, breakfast was acceptable, but dinner was of extremely poor quality, so much so that we ate out on our second night, which was an added expense. Dinner was served in the clubhouse, we were allocated a table near the window, I put my handbag on the floor and saw snail trails all over the carpet - totally unacceptable. I have an allergy to shellfish - staff couldn't tell me if the fish fritters were safe for me to eat.

The restaurant was a big let down. The evening meal was served in the club house in a conservatory which meant a 600 yard walk from the hotel in the open air which when it rained meant we got very wet both going and returning. he menu was very limited and did not change during our 4 nights stay. There were no vegetarian options on it. We had been before and had liked it but we will not be returning again. Very disappointing.

Receptionist very friendly and welcoming. Found it strange we had breakfast in the actual hotel but had to go to the golf club for dinner. Good varied choice on the menu, well presented and waiter very attentive. Breakfast was ok.

Our stay here was very pleasant. The rooms were more than adequate for what we needed. The Spa facilities were very good. The dinner in the evening was excellent on both occasions. The only slight negatives were that the breakfast wasn’t the best and after dinner you had to stay at the restaurant bar as the other bar shut at 9.30.

Our Woodbury Park experience was almost better than I dared expect. It’s the first time I’ve booked a Golf Break and it definitely won’t be the last. We hope to continue forwards with an annual golf break from now on and we will certainly look to YGT as the first port of call.

Woodbury Park was fantastic. The hotel was excellent with good accommodation and very welcoming staff. Food in the Atrium restaurant was first class and the wines were good value too. Service was very efficient and we were ell looked after.

The leisure centre was good although unfortunately we didn’t have time to use everything on offer!

The Clubhouse is wonderfully situated with fantastic views. Drinks and casual meals are all good quality although the beer is a bit pricey.

The Oaks golf course was fantastic; beautifully kept and in a great setting. It is challenging but not so difficult that higher handicappers cannot enjoy themselves. The bunkers are huge and if you visit them you notice the quality of the green keeping is brilliant. We enjoyed this course so much that we didn’t bother trying the shorter Acorns course.

Overall I would give our golf break 8.5/10 and would love to go again. Woodbury Park was excellent and so was the service from Your Golf Travel. We had prompt responses to questions and found YGT to be quick and easy to use. I would most definitely recommend Your Golf Travel to other golfers.

Great course - would love to play again - if only to try to find the balls I lost!!!! Just a shame about the clubhouse.

The courses good and was enjoyable. Unfortunately we could only play once as the severe weather caused the course to be closed on one day we had booked to play.

Oaks Course (Woodbury Park Hotel, Golf & Country Club)

At the mid way point there is a snack hut. On the first day there was a two ball in front of us and in front of them three woman. One woman teed off at the 10th then went and got a coffee, the next two did exactly the same not allowing the two ball behind them to play through, this also happened on the second day which was very frustrating as we all started to stack up then and play became painfully slow. The 18th should be a call through hole, mark your ball let the next ones tee off then finish your game while they walk down to it. On the first day 9 of us were waiting to play this hole, 3 x 2 balls and 1 three ball.

Lovely course. There was 12 of us so it was just right for everyone’s ability. It was certainly helped by the fact that we had 3 beautiful days. Perfect golf weather
