Signature Collection

The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama sits on Tenerife's west coast, just 25 minutes from the South Airport, and is home to one of the finest golf courses in the Canary Islands. Designed by Dave Thomas, the architect behind The Belfry's Ryder Cup-hosting Brabazon Course, the layout at Abama ranks among the top 35 courses in Spain and is widely regarded as the best in the Canary Islands.

Perched on a dramatic clifftop with sweeping views over the Atlantic, the resort combines championship golf with five-star luxury. The course itself is a proper test, weaving through volcanic terrain with elevation changes, strategic bunkering and coastal winds that demand thoughtful club selection. It's the kind of layout that rewards course management over brute force, and the views alone make every round memorable.

Off the course, The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama delivers exactly what you'd expect from a resort of this calibre. The accommodation ranges from spacious Deluxe rooms to One Bedroom Suites in The Retreat, many with private pools. Dining is exceptional, headlined by two Michelin-starred restaurants, M.B (two stars) and Kabuki (one star), alongside eight other restaurants and bars. The spa is one of the best in Spain, the kids' club is excellent, and the service is polished and attentive, exactly what you'd expect from The Ritz-Carlton name.

This is a resort that works for serious golfers chasing a top-tier course in year-round sunshine, but it's equally suited to couples and families who want luxury, choice and a base from which to explore Tenerife's west coast. If you're after a winter-sun golf break that pairs a genuine championship test with five-star facilities, Abama covers the big three: serious golf, five-star comfort and dining you'll actually plan evenings around.

Who is this for?
Golfers or groups seeking a luxury golf break in the Canary Islands with access to one of Spain's best courses, premium accommodation and exceptional dining.

Who is it best for?
Serious golfers who want a strategic, visually stunning layout in year-round sunshine, couples looking for a five-star escape with Michelin-starred dining, and families who need top-tier facilities and a kids' club alongside quality golf.

Abama Golf

Set against the backdrop of the Atlantic shoreline, the modern championship course is adorned with a beautiful array of lakes and waterfalls, while during construction no less than 25,000 trees were planted across the layout.

From the back tee markers, Abama reaches 6,858 yards, which is not particularly long for a modern construction, but visitors will enjoy the terrific variety of holes that designer Thomas has conceived.

Although there are many stand-outs, the 10th is arguably the signature hole, as it dog-legs to the left, bordered on one side by out-of-bounds and on the other by a threatening sequence of lakes.

This resort opened to a fanfare of publicity as it stated its case to be one of the most prestigious resorts in Europe and beyond, and since its inauguration has certainly not disappointed - Dave Thomas' outstanding golf course is a major part of that success.

The Abama Golf Course also boasts a great practice facility, including a dedicated short game area and a three hole par-3 academy course, while the buggies are all fitted with the latest GPS technology and there is a new golf bag storage facility.

Food & Drink

Dining at Abama is a highlight in its own right. The resort has ten restaurants and bars, including two Michelin-starred venues, M.B (two stars) and Kabuki (one star), offering a superb dining experience that stands up to the golf. M.B, led by Chef Erlantz Gorostiza and named after famed Spanish chef Martín Berasategui, serves extravagant Basque-inspired cuisine. It's a meal worth planning your evening around. Kabuki, brought to Tenerife by Seoul native and former professional snowboarder Akira Back, holds one Michelin star and serves modern Japanese cuisine with creativity and flair.

Beyond the starred restaurants, the choice is extensive. El Mirador specialises in fish and seafood, Verona serves Italian, Txoko offers traditional Basque dishes, Verde Mar focuses on natural and local products, and The Beach Club provides relaxed coastal dining. The Lobby Bar, La Veranda and the Deli Cafe round out the options, backed by a superb wine list and live music most evenings.

Leisure Facilities

The fitness centre is complimentary, open 24 hours and equipped with the latest cardiovascular training technology, all with coastal views. The Destination Spa is one of the best in Spain, using Cinq Mondes Spa products and offering a water circuit that includes a Tepidarium, Hammam, African sauna, herbal steam bath, Kneipp trail, shower area, hydrotherapy pool, snow cabin and spa garden. It's designed specifically to help you unwind after a round, and it delivers.

For families, the kids' club is excellent, giving parents the freedom to play golf or relax while children are looked after. The resort's clifftop location also makes it easy to explore Tenerife's west coast, with the Atlantic on your doorstep and plenty of local attractions within easy reach.

Made to feel very welcome on arrival. We managed to get early access to our room, which was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Breakfast was included and really set us up for the day. We stayed in the hotel at night but had the choice of a number of restaurants. The food was excellent. Only minor quibble was the free wifi which was patchy. Otherwise excellent all round.

This is the best hotel on Tenerife. Everything is 5*. It is a big hotel and always busy but the breakfast is excellent, there are various pools incl adult only. Nice bar and spacious terrace. Beach bar and restaurant is great for lunch. I have stayed here 5 times. Its great!

The restaurant bookings in the hotel have been poor and the course was in a building site with noisy diggers and machinery spoiling the view and the ambiance. We expected a 5 star holiday and this was meant to be the luxury cap on a 24 day holiday across 4 of the Canary Islands. It has turned out to be the worst in many ways. We have had so many other good days in great hotels and restaurants this has come as a real and very overpriced disappointment. We arrived 2 days ago at 6pm for 3 nights and on arrival was told they only had two spaces in their many restaurants at 6.15 and 6.30. It took 10 mins to get to the room so we had to rush down to the vegetarian restaurant, the only real option for a, tasty, mini portion, maxi price meal. In three weeks prior travelling we have had superb food and wine but never seen wine at 15 euros a glass for a local wine: very good restaurants usually charge no more than 6 euros and lesser places 4..its horrible feeling you are being ripped off. First bite at breakfast the next morning I bit on a 20mm piece of broken glass in the herring or smoked salmon. I gave it to a waitress and showed her the place it had come from and suggested she remove the glass plate (that was clearly chipped), and the one below. I was very lucky not to have badly cut my mouth or swallowed it. She took room number but I have not heard anything since...no apology. This morning at 9 am on our last full day we tried to book the Asian restaurant which has been closed for the last two days. Only to be told its fully booked for tonight. Completely hopeless. The staff are friendly and the room is nice but that is not enough for 5 stars. There are many many places that give a much better quality experience in the Canaries, we've tried many.

Beautiful course. Very picturesque.

WOW..Is a good description of the actual course. It was incredible, it looked incredible, the holes were beautiful and interesting to play, the views were fabulous. Possibly one of the best looking courses I've ever played. However. The greens were so difficult. If you struggle with putting go and play somewhere else or you will lose your mind. The greens were in great condition but it was like playing the US Open. Although in a weird way it was also fun trying to work them out. What was disappointing though was no drinks buggy on course a bit disorganised checking in to find where everything was and no starter on first tee. Even so, the clubhouse was lovely, food was great and the course was incredible even though it beat us all up a bit. Definitely will be back to play again.
