Set against the backdrop of the Atlantic shoreline, the modern championship course is adorned with a beautiful array of lakes and waterfalls, while during construction no less than 25,000 trees were planted across the layout.
From the back tee markers, Abama reaches 6,858 yards, which is not particularly long for a modern construction, but visitors will enjoy the terrific variety of holes that designer Thomas has conceived.
Although there are many stand-outs, the 10th is arguably the signature hole, as it dog-legs to the left, bordered on one side by out-of-bounds and on the other by a threatening sequence of lakes.
This resort opened to a fanfare of publicity as it stated its case to be one of the most prestigious resorts in Europe and beyond, and since its inauguration has certainly not disappointed - Dave Thomas' outstanding golf course is a major part of that success.
The Abama Golf Course also boasts a great practice facility, including a dedicated short game area and a three hole par-3 academy course, while the buggies are all fitted with the latest GPS technology and there is a new golf bag storage facility.

Made to feel very welcome on arrival. We managed to get early access to our room, which was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Breakfast was included and really set us up for the day. We stayed in the hotel at night but had the choice of a number of restaurants. The food was excellent. Only minor quibble was the free wifi which was patchy. Otherwise excellent all round.

The restaurant bookings in the hotel have been poor and the course was in a building site with noisy diggers and machinery spoiling the view and the ambiance. We expected a 5 star holiday and this was meant to be the luxury cap on a 24 day holiday across 4 of the Canary Islands. It has turned out to be the worst in many ways. We have had so many other good days in great hotels and restaurants this has come as a real and very overpriced disappointment. We arrived 2 days ago at 6pm for 3 nights and on arrival was told they only had two spaces in their many restaurants at 6.15 and 6.30. It took 10 mins to get to the room so we had to rush down to the vegetarian restaurant, the only real option for a, tasty, mini portion, maxi price meal. In three weeks prior travelling we have had superb food and wine but never seen wine at 15 euros a glass for a local wine: very good restaurants usually charge no more than 6 euros and lesser places 4..its horrible feeling you are being ripped off. First bite at breakfast the next morning I bit on a 20mm piece of broken glass in the herring or smoked salmon. I gave it to a waitress and showed her the place it had come from and suggested she remove the glass plate (that was clearly chipped), and the one below. I was very lucky not to have badly cut my mouth or swallowed it. She took room number but I have not heard anything since...no apology. This morning at 9 am on our last full day we tried to book the Asian restaurant which has been closed for the last two days. Only to be told its fully booked for tonight. Completely hopeless. The staff are friendly and the room is nice but that is not enough for 5 stars. There are many many places that give a much better quality experience in the Canaries, we've tried many.

Having read all the reviews re this being the best course in Tenerife it had a lot to live up to. We came away with mixed feelings because the quality in virtually all aspects was amazing and in that respect it is the best course in Tenerife. However we all agreed that in terms of enjoyment, we rated it the lowest of the 3 rounds we played because in truth it was just too difficult for us. Some will enjoy the challenge, but on the day we were just beaten by it!

Great course in great condition. Greens were in great condition and very quick. Difficult to read and some silly pin positions!

Greens are way too tricked up and too fast. Everything rolls and and pin placements were a joke.
