Buenavista Golf sits in Tenerife's dramatic north-west corner, where the Teno mountain range meets the Atlantic. Opened in 2003 and designed by the legendary Seve Ballesteros, it's become a firm favourite with golfers looking to swap the busier southern resorts for a wilder, more natural setting.

The routing makes the most of the rugged landscape, with fairways that weave through volcanic ground and banana plantations close by in the valley. Coastal holes, elevated tees and constant scenery keep your camera busy between shots. Wind is a big part of the challenge here, so it's a course that rewards shaping the ball and picking the right targets rather than simply swinging harder.

Seve's trademark risk-reward is never far away, mixing tempting par 5s with shorter par 4s that can be attacked if you're driving it well. The par 3 17th is the postcard moment, played across a ravine to a green perched above the sea. It's a genuine bucket-list hole for most resort golfers.

From the back tees it's a proper test at over 6,700 yards, demanding solid ball-striking and smart decisions, especially when the wind picks up off the Atlantic. Move forward a set and the course opens up considerably, making it far more forgiving for mid-handicappers. Expect large, sloping greens where pace control matters, especially if they're running quick. If the wind is up, take one more club into the par 3s and favour the bigger side of the greens.

Off the course, you'll find a welcoming clubhouse with terrace views, plus a driving range and short game practice areas. The location is quieter than the southern resorts, making it ideal for golfers who want a more authentic Tenerife experience away from the crowds. If you're planning a Tenerife golf break and want great golf in a spectacular setting, Buenavista ticks a lot of boxes.

Who is this for?
Golfers looking for a high-quality, Seve-designed layout in a stunning natural setting, with enough challenge to test low handicappers and enough playability to suit improving players.

Who is it best for?
Mid-to-low handicappers who appreciate strategic design, dramatic scenery and a course that rewards smart thinking over brute force, particularly those staying in the north or west of Tenerife.

Buenavista Golf

From the championship tee markers, Seve's creation measures 6,582 yards, but with the coastal location and proximity of the mountains, the coastal winds can play havoc with club selection and judging distance. Buenavista is also fortunate enough to have a dedicated golf school, which adheres to the principles that Seve engendered throughout his career. With that in mind, you might start missing some fairways, but your short game is sure to be sharp!

This amazing golfing destination is a must for anyone looking to explore Tenerife's rich and varied golfing landscape, and will be a highlight of your next golf holiday.

Great course, stunning scenery. Had a trouble with buggies as we weren't allowed to pre book but other people were. So managed to get a few but then had to wait 9 holes for other buggies but people teeing off after us managed to get some

A very nice course with perhaps the most picturesque coastal views we’ve personally played. Overall condition of the course was tip top, if not for a few pitch marks not repaired on greens. Pace of play is very slow, we had 3 5-hour rounds where we are typically quite fast players, so perhaps this is just the way of holiday golf. However to be offered a ‘twilight’ time of 13:40 which we couldn’t actually finish due to lack of light and being constantly held up by slow play in front, the clubhouse was then also closed so we were unable to have a drink/some food afterwards. To travel 2000 miles and pay a lot of money to then not be able to complete the round and have a closed clubhouse was disappointing. There was also very minimal usage, or effectiveness, of marshals to speed slower players up, with them all seemingly having gone home for the day at the end of that later tee time, when the course desperately needed play to be sped up in order to finish before dark, but instead we were waiting 15 minutes minimum on each tee. Besides the pace of play and fading light, the rest of the course was brilliant, a lovely place to play golf. Just ensure you are aware it will be a slow round and you’d need to avoid afternoon tee times if possible. Maybe this is something YGT could disclose when booking with customers.
