Churston Golf Club is perched above Tor Bay on Devon's south coast, with big views that run from Brixham in the east across to Torquay in the west. If you like a bit of scenery with your scorecard, you'll get plenty of it here, especially on the more exposed holes where the wind can have a real say.
The course layout was designed by Harry Colt, and it shows in the way the holes sit on the land. You don't need to be a long hitter to enjoy it, but you do need to think your way round. Pick the right side of the fairway, respect the slopes and take the steady option when the breeze gets up, and you'll give yourself far more chances than trying to force it. The clifftop setting means wind is often a factor, and the coastal views provide a proper backdrop throughout the round.
Off the course, the modern clubhouse does the job nicely for both pre-round organisation and the all-important post-round debrief, with a comfortable setting to take in the coastal outlook.
Who is this for?
Golfers planning a Devon break who want a scenic round on a Colt-designed track where placement and course management matter more than distance.
Who is it best for?
Mid-handicappers and above who enjoy plotting their way round, plus societies looking for a straightforward day out with good hospitality and easy access to Torbay's coastal towns. If you're building a Devon golf break, include this on your next trip.

Set in the heart of Devon, the parkland layout at Churston provides an excellent destination for visitors. The location gives sensational views of Tor Bay and as far as Torquay in the distance, this provides the perfect backdrop for golfers.
The layout is a par 70, at just over 6,200 yards from the back, allowing golfers of all abilities can enjoy Churston. The club welcomes all visitors to their modern clubhouse, meaning Churston would be a great addition to a visit to the beautiful Cornish coastline.

Was wet so 6 temporary greens and carry only but still enjoyable, would love to play again in drier conditions.

The course needed a 1st cut off of the fairway - too many drives went a few feet off and couldn't be found in the long grass. Friendly people.

Great golf course unfortunately the greens had been spiked two days before our arrival but otherwise we really enjoyed it and would definitely play it again

A very good course, fairways and greens in very good order. So many different holes which is good. The only let down was the lack of sand in the bunkers.

Busy course, nice parkland, plenty of challenging holes. Quite a few public footpaths cross the course.
