Copthorne Hotel Newcastle

Perched on Newcastle Quayside in the heart of Newcastle, the Copthorne Hotel Newcastle is a cracking city base for a North East golf break. It's the only hotel in the city where every room overlooks the River Tyne, so you're not waking up to a car park or a back street, you're getting proper waterfront views that make a difference when you're unwinding after 18 holes.

For golfers, it's an easy win on the practical front. There's secure on-site parking (no circling the block with your clubs in the boot), comfortable rooms and the Quay 7 Restaurant and Bar on-site, so you can keep logistics simple, especially if you're travelling with clubs. Step outside and you're straight onto the Quayside, while Newcastle city centre is an easy walk away for pubs, restaurants, shopping and a big night out if your group fancies it.

Location-wise, it also works well as a base for playing across the region. You can mix city nightlife with a proper spread of golf, from coastal links up in Northumberland to quality inland parkland tracks. The hotel sits in that sweet spot where you're close enough to everything but far enough back to actually get some sleep. It suits long weekends and multi-course tours where you want to play plenty of golf, then come back somewhere lively with food, drinks and a view.

Who is this for?
Golfers and groups who want a Newcastle city base with river views, on-site parking and walkable nightlife.

Accommodation at Copthorne Hotel Newcastle

The Copthorne is a spacious, well-equipped hotel that ticks the practical boxes golfers actually care about. Secure on-site parking means you're not hauling bags through the streets, and the Quay 7 Restaurant gives you a solid option for breakfast and dinner without needing to venture out every night. That said, when you do want to explore, the city centre is close enough for a quick stroll to find more restaurants, bars and whatever else Newcastle has going on.

Rooms are comfortable and come with those river views, which genuinely make a difference when you're settling in after a round. The hotel has a relaxed, unfussy feel, nothing overly formal, just a good base that works for golf groups who want somewhere reliable with a bit of character. You get a bit more space than many city-centre options, and the waterfront aspect adds something to the stay that you won't find elsewhere in Newcastle.

Quay 7 Restaurant serves freshly cooked British and international dishes with a focus on local ingredients. The waterfront setting adds something to the experience, especially if you're there for an evening meal with a drink. The menu covers everything from light lunches to full dinners, with a decent range of mains and desserts that work well for groups. Quay 7 Bar is equally straightforward, offering beers, wines, cocktails and a bar menu that runs from snacks through to proper plates if you're not after a full sit-down meal. It's the kind of setup that works whether you're grabbing a quick bite before heading out or settling in for the evening with your group.

If your group prefers to sample the city, you're well placed. There are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance around the Quayside and city centre, so you can keep the evenings flexible depending on tee times and appetite. From a golf-break point of view, the combination of location, parking and on-site dining makes the Copthorne a practical choice. You're not stuck out in the suburbs, but you're in a spot that gives you flexibility, comfort and a proper view to go with it.

Enjoyed our stay although disappointed that with COVID restrictions we were still only offered a twin room and had to pay for an additional room despite the hotel being largely empty. The staff were great and friendly. Great location in Newcastle.
