Dona Filipa Hotel

All good except bedroom which needed upgrading with no plugs by the beds and a poor shower in the bath with the water not hot.

The hotel is beautiful with very helpful staff. There was lots of renovations going on whilst we were there

Hotel Don Filipa was a great option. Very comfortable rooms and the staff are very polite and professional. Breakfast was incredible. Not sure why but dinner was only ok. This isn’t a problem as there are a lot of places to eat nearby and it’s good Vale Do Lobo is a great area!

Generally very good and lovely people . We ate twice in the restaurant but the food was not great . Breakfast was very good .

This hotel has 2 distinctive types of room inrwfurbished(called classic!!) and refurbished. The refurbished rooms are fine(we got upgraded into one)the classic rooms are terrible,me and my wife were originally in one of these with what effectively were 2 very small single beds(old as well) No better than a 2 star hotel,shower in the bath etc no separate shower.Horrible.The hotel bar is dull and badly designed breakfast was ok. I recommend staying at the Conrad as there is more to do outside the hotel and facilities are better,

Have been many times,glad it has now changed ownership and hopefully will now create a first class hotel.

Unfortunately I managed to get a chest infection on second day which meant we had 1 day golf at San Lorenzo which was delightful as usual.The doctor came to hotel and diagnosed the problem.This meant we could do nothing and had to have dinner at the hotel.Extremely poor at best.Not much more to say. Love this hotel. The older Rooms are shabby but roomy. First few days the pool area was chaos. Someone must have complained as it improved . Staff started tidying.! Will return , feels like home after 21 years!

Always a good location- great staff and comfortable rooms. Perfect for a golf tour.

Very pleasant stay and my only criticism would be that I'd expect to get water in fridge and coffee pods replenished in a 5 star hotel. Otherwise, I can't fault it.

Staff friendly and professional. Location perfect for the local amenities (although I was asked a lot by my fellow golfers why we travelled out to San Lorenzo when we had the Royal and Ocean on our doorstep. I know that the hotel own San Lorenzo and Pinheiros so that will have kept the price down). No water in the hotel room although when we asked for some it was provided quickly. Showers temperamental. Breakfast of a very high quality. Overall, I'd recommend the hotel.

Used to love this place, but I gain the feeling with uncertainty of their future with San Lorenzo is plaguing them. Also tennis courts are covered in grim for everyone to see, which gives the opinion no one cares and it looks run down. Needs a bit of TLC and I am sure it will bounce back.

Excellent stay

The hotel was obvs 5 star in a previous life but is showing its age and us a little 'tired'

Would definitely say it was a good 4 star. Our rooms were tired but I believe some have been renovated. There were clean towels everyday and bathrobes provided. There was ample toiletries provided so no need to take your own , if you were short of space in your suitcase. The restaurant overlooks the pool and has a beautiful sea view. Lots of sun loungers to relax in after a golfing morning. The breakfast was excellent. We only ate in the hotel one night as we wanted to sample the local restaurants, but it was a good meal. The hotel bar had a good atmosphere in the evening.

Staff very helpful, especially arranging for us to check out late so we could get another round in. Comfortable bed and good bathroom, shower etc. Nespresso machine but only for espresso size coffee, kettle for tea.

Lovely hotel and staff were fantastic, if you are looking for a relaxed break then this place is great but does not have the vibe of say villamoura. Be careful about transfers to the course as well as we were told the hotel has a complimentary shuttle bus but this is not really the case for groups, after some negotiations with the lovely receptionist she managed to get us a company to do it for us so be careful.

We were annoyed that your staff hadn’t explained fully you room choice we were given an old and refurbished room

The hotel was nice ,but needed so maintenance. The shuttle drivers were great. The reception staff however, need more training. Translation was a bit of a problem when asking for room service. My sea veiw room, was more of a veiw of the air ducts! Was OK but I have stayed in better. Breakfast was nice.

Classic rooms are tired, we were lucky that the hotel wasn’t too busy as the room we were initially given was noisy with a constant hum (like being next to the plant room). Staff were very good and move us across the hall to a Deluxe Classic Room which was much quieter. Wouldn’t recommend a classic room to anyone. Overall experience was good but would tell people to upgrade.

This was described to me as a 5 star hotel but in reality it is a 3. The staff were friendly enough but not engaging or helpful - my onboarding/checking in experience was poor; there was no enthusiasm or friendliness. I was offered a welcome drink and asked for coffee but was told it was only tea or orange juice! very odd. The room and hotel in general was very 'tired' - everything could do with an upgrade although it was clean. The breakfast buffet was pretty standard - there was an omelette chef and the usual fare - full english, pastries, yoghurt etc The bar was ok and reasonably priced but very quiet - not many people using it. The location is near the beach and there is a little hub nearby that might be busier in summer months but was very quiet when I was there. The outdoor pool is 'heated' but dont expect to be able to go in it if its a cold day. A big bugbear was the charging/power points in the room - they were oddly placed and not enough of them meaning unplugging the table lamp for phone charger for example and no USB slots

Hotel policy on line for check in was by 2.00 pm. We arrived at 12.00 so went for lunch. We were still sat in reception at 4.15 being told that the room was not ready, they couldn’t change to another and they had to wait for housekeeping. As we left home at 4.00 am, that was a bad start. Overall there was was no communication from the hotel, no staff around to ask and you had to chase everything.

Hotel is good quality, although not top 5 star. Bedrooms spacious and rooms had view of golf course and sea. Restaurant had v good buffet, and breakfast provides a good variety. There is no gym in the hotel. There is no ramp to wheel bags to 3 rd floor rooms. Staff were v helpful. There is no shuttle bus to Vale do Lobo courses which is a little too far to walk with heavy bag of clubs ( easy without) . YGT should have advised us but didn't ( the same re the lack of practice facilities at VdL) and we ended up paying an extra £285 for four days transport which they did arrange!

A lovely comfortable hotel with friendly and efficient staff. Offers to refresh our fluffy towels each evening was made and our room was clean and well equipped. Nice balcony to sit and relax on. The hotel seems squeezed in to a built up area and outwardly does not really do the hotel justice.

As a returning customer to this hotel it noticeable how tired it has become , needs refreshing , we went for the classic rooms as we were only there for the golf for 5 nights and the extra expense to upgrade was better spent on the food and drinks at the resort and hotel which were quite pricey, one room was fine and as expected from other reviews however the other room had a strong drain smell from the start , it was reported and the staff didn’t seem surprised and offered to come up and pour some bleach down the toilet and sink , the smell continued to come and go so maybe another thing that needs looking at , we enjoyed our stay although if your booking the shuttle bus to the golf course then make sure you have everything confirmed as we noted that sometimes making arrangements where a bit like left hand / right hand and not very good communication between the reception staff, the drivers and the courses !

The hotel had a relaxed welcoming atmosphere, and the staff were always prepared to go the extra mile with any request

On arrival was disappointed with room as overlooked air con units but we were moved to another room which was much better. We did not get the golf view room which we had requested originally when made booking.

The rooms were abit dated but on the whole this was a great hotel with fantastic staff, restaurant and pool.

Very dated bedroom

Very Portuguese hotel with several good bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Able to play golf at San Lorenzo when staying at D P. Helpful staff, prices vary according to accommodation. Not a lot of general sightseeing on the area, only went to Loulé and Vilamoura. Looking forward to going back.

Hotel first class

Hotel is ideal. Excellent pool and deck area pool bar and sunbathing spot. Staff will sort anything, even fizz for our anniversary. Doing more events now which is good.

Been here for years up to covid, and although our rooms, being the ‘classic’ were upgraded to include a sitting area, they are a little jaded. You cant beat the position, staff and general feel of this hotel.

Wonderful stay at Dona Filipa- the hotel staff were so attentive, comfortable room and bathroom, delicious breakfasts in the morning with so much choice. Super location over looking the sea and nice pool area. We could not fault it. The only thing is the tennis court needs resurfacing but that's the only thing i could think of! I had a wonderful surprise in my room to celebrate a big birthday -those touches are so important. Thankyou so much Dona Filipa it was a fabulous holiday and we will certainly come back again next year.

Lovely hotel. Took ages to work out layout of hotel as the reception is on the 3rd floor and it’s a confusing getting to restaurant and pool area on second floor food was lovely and varied an the staff were very good. During the off season the nearby restaurants are okay but quiet and if you’re a golfing group like we were(12) we traveled to nearby Vilamoura for a bit of excitement Our biggest gripe by far was the hotel was responsible for changing our tee times from 1030am (booked 9 months previously)) to 1146am at the Pinheiros Golf Course. I complained to YGT who confirmed in writing it was Dona Filipa Hotel’s decision to change our tee times without warning. As a direct result as a matter of principle would not book that hotel again.

Despite requests to YGT for a room in the refurbished part of the hotel these were not passed on. On arrival we were told we could have a room in the better part of the hotel for €30 a night, an offer our friends took up. Why were we not advised this at an earlier stage? The hotel was noisy at night with men returning to their rooms from local bars. Not really a 5 star hotel!!

The staff were extremely welcoming and we couldn’t really fault them. However, we believe someone should have highlighted the extreme mosquito problem for the region. We couldn’t even purchase repellent from the local supermarket as they didn’t stock it.

The staff, bar and restaurant were great although we only had breakfast there. The hotel itself needs a bit of a upgrade. The rooms are tired and dated. The corridors, stairs and lifts need refurbishment. Location is great for the beach but there is a limited amount of choice for eating out. For a long weekend it was great but any longer we would have been looking for other locations to eat. The hotel staff were great and the transfers to the golf courses arrived on time going and returning. Overall great golf and well organised weekend, hotel a bit tired.

We travelled as a group of 6 golfers for the week staying at the Dona Filipa. The hotel was just lovely, received upgraded rooms on our arrival and every member of the party enjoyed their stay there. Friendly, helpful staff, great location next to the beach with lovely views. Golf transfers were easy and very accommodating. Would highly recommend the Dona Filipa, thank you.

Restaurant not open for dinner

Excellent hotel only 20 mins from Airport, ideally located for golf courses. Clean rooms with plenty of storage space. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Bar and restaurant easy going with two screens for sport.

We were upgraded for free to a junior suite. A really big room overlooking the courtyard with balcony. We ate dinner in the restaurant on our first night. Great food and great value for money. Excellent breakfast and all the staff are very helpful.

Dona Filipa old rooms are very tired and need refurbishment. Leaking shower hoses, taps very stiff, poor heating controls. Breakfast excellent as ever and staff helpful. This hotel needs serious reinvestment. It is not a 5 star hotel.

Dona Filipa is in a fantastic location very close to the beach, bars and Vale do Lobo Golf. They do not own the local courses so no discount but they do own courses about 5 mikes away. The hotel is definitely 4* plus and some may say 5*.

Hotel is in a great location, within a resort type area, which is purpose built. Good beach, bars and restaurants. Staff attitude was excellent but attention to detail was not always there. May just have been unlucky with the room choice but noisy at night, with older A/C, kids screaming in the room next door in the morning, and a couple of hookers plying their trade in the room below on the last night. A major downside was the facilities, for a 5* hotel I would expect a gym, and the pool was filthy, with a good few broken tiles. Not great value for money and lacking elements for a 5* tag.

It's a great hotel in a fabulous location. Staff very helpful, breakfast is a treat with many options and an egg chef to get whatever you want. Lovely sea views and a great pool.

Good hotel in good location but rooms are now getting very dated. Bathrooms not good & too small.

Everything at the hotel was great. We travelled as three golfers, with two people sharing one of the rooms. The rooms were generous in size, the beds were comfortable, the breakfasts were great and the pool area and view from it were great also. Staff were very efficient, courteous and helpful. The shuttle bus to the courses is extremely useful too.

The hotel is undergoing a phased refurbishment which did not affect our stay, we stayed in one of the older rooms which was still clean and tidy with all the facilities you would expect in a 5* hotel The hotel is located close to a number of bars/restaurants and is only a short taxi drive ( €11) to the town of Villamouri

Dona Filipa was perfectly located for all the local golf courses. Pick-ups from the hotel and back ran like clockwork. Breakfast choice was immense, everything catered for. Staff polite and helpful. Good size room, clean and tidy.

Nothing has changed since our last visit, the hotel is typically Portuguese. The rooms are fine, bit old fashioned but nice. The staff very helpful, including the shuttle drivers, and pleasant.

Fantastic hotel in great location. The only downside was that although the hotel is at the beach and has great views the bar and lounge areas are internal with no views or outside seating area, so location goes to waste. Bar area itself is very clinical, nice, but little atmosphere. Upside is that an area of restaurants and couple bars are 3 minutes walk away.

We always like staying at the Dona Felipe because it’s in such a great location, close to the beach and a short drive to a lot of great golf courses. Lots of good restaurants close by. If we’re not eating in the hotel our favourite eaterie is Maria’s, at Dunas Durades - especially when the DJ is there. It’s all brilliant.

Having stayed in many 5 star hotels in Europe on golf holidays I have to say this was the best one. Beds very comfortable, fantastic location, breakfast choice was excellent, special mention for English bacon and sausages. Shuttle service to golf courses worked very well. Pool area and sun beds were great. Highly recommended

Great hotel, great breakfast, great bar - just great !

I have stayed in the hotel for some thirty five years, I have always enjoyed my time there, My most recent visit was some two weeks ago, The rooms which has not been modernised Look a little tired, but overall as always I enjoyed it.

We have stayed at the hotel many times and this year we were in one of the refurbished rooms. Very comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent as ever.

My wife and I had a lovely 5 night stay at the Dona Filipa hotel. Excellent hotel, lovely heated pool, good food, really friendly & helpful staff - highly recommend

Fantastic location in the heart of Vale de Lobo. THe public areas are very nice and look to have been refurbished recently, the rooms though are very tired and in need of upgrading. The showers are over bath and very old, no hot water at busy times in an evening. The curtains didn't close properly so the room was very light early in the morning, the door to the balcony didn't clock as the mechanism has seized, not worked for a very long time. Air con was ok. Breakfast was very good - wide choice and nice location overlooking pool and sea. Nice poolside bar, loungers etc but the pool was dirty with bits floating in the water which we and several other guests complained about, it appeared to be from growth on the grout and tiles on the pool side. They did get someone in on our last night which improved it but I've never seen a pool anywhere in this poor condition.

The hotel is very good with great location being next to bars and restaurants. We had a room on the 5th floor which although very clean and good facilities with safe in the room was in need of refurbishment : the bathroom was small with poor extraction and the shower was poor and difficult to get a decent flow of water unless cold! Also the air con was quite noisy if left on overnight. The included transfers to the golf course was excellent

San Lorenzo hotel is a little dated but I sort of liked that about it . Rooms wer v good and clean and tidy. Staff wer friendly and nothing was a bother to them. Plenty of parking at the hotel as it has its own secure car park. Breakfast was amazing and the only problem with it was if u over indulge 🤣. Drinks in the hotel wer on the expensive side but it’s to be expected I guess at a five star rating. Definitely would return to the hotel as we got a good deal and in my opinion it was value for money .

As ever, the Dona Filipa delivers exactly what is expected. We didn’t use the formal restaurant - there are so many better places to go in the area - but the bar was great (but underused) for a simple lunch or supper.

Disappointed with room (again). Paid extra for Classic Sea / Golf view. Room was very tired, desperately needing refurb. Bathroom and toilet tiles cracked, grouting missing, bath stained. View was ok - part of one fairway visible, no sea view. The rest of the hotel was decent. Breakfasts were very good, lots of choice and well presented. Dining area clean and smart. Reception staff very good.

we stayed in a modern room with seaview across the roofs of the bottom part of the hotel. with the door open to the balcony of the room the crashing waves might wake some visitors. one day our room was still not made when we returned at 4.30 pm! That was unacceptable and we only received a verbal apology.

Lovely hotel, great staff would be happy to return any time

The room we stayed in was very old fashioned and had very basic air con. The bathroom was also basic and certainly not a 5* experience. Breakfast was ok, but the dinner was poor quality and the staff were not very helpful.

Been staying here for almost 30-years. Like any hotel you can criticise bits of it, but the overall experience is always great. Will be there again 👍

Had an excellent stay only hampered with the inevitable Covid restrictions.

We requested at the time of booking to not have a ground floor room-the hotel said that YGT never told them this we then had to wait another 3 hours for our room to be available not a great start to our holiday we also requested buggies to be booked at time of booking again we were told that this had been done and guess what we arrive at San Lorenzo and no buggies available it seems to me that YGT will say anything to get a booking not a great experience especially as I needed a buggy due to having had an operation two weeks before.

The staff was the most helpful and pleasant of any hotel in which I have stayed. The beds were incredibly comfortable.

Just a great location The airport transfer buses were not big enough for 8 people with golf bags and luggage - we nearly didn't get everything in Shuttle buses to the golf clubs did not work well for our group of eight, as bus drives were only allowed to take six people - changed our last day Cost us quite a bit in extra taxis

Always great value, location unbeatable

We had a lovely welcome from the receptionist a complimentary drink from the bar & a beautiful spacious room with a sea view . The hotel did everything possible to make it covid safe which all worked very well especially at breakfast .

A good hotel that did their best to make a small number of guests feel comfortable. Most people eat out so the bars and restaurants were virtually empty at all mealtimes except breakfast. Technical issues with pur tv took five days to partially fix (having upgraded to a suite for an extra €100 per night). Otherwise this is still a very good hotel.

Suggest you advise golfers due to arrive Hotel late PM that a shuttle for next morning golf needs booking in advance otherwise first day golf may be spoiled by no shuttle room available! First floor rooms are still not up to scratch

Again we have stayed at DF for years and always enjoy it , the hotel has steadily improved over the years and the location near the beach is fab .

We got an upgrade for all our rooms, $20 discount each off bar bills and generally got looked after very well.

Whilst most of Hotel has been refurbished our room still had old style bathroom. Breakfast buffet is outstanding, staff first class.

Hotel great and staff could not be nicer but the golf course management continues to disappoint . I’ve never had a round under 5 hours in the last three years and last year we played rhe front 9!twice . If they take big pro ams then there should be 20 mins before the next tee time

A quality short break in winter sunshine, fabulous time, highly recommended.

Beside the poor weather we had a great stay at Dona Filipa. Staff and Hotel is worthy of its 5* Room upgrade was worth the change and presented really well. On my wife's birthday the hotel chef made a beautiful chocolate and decorated cake and bubbly was delivered to the room. Good well stocked quality breakfasts. The only disappointment was on Sunday 15th Dec when eating off the A la Carte Menu the food was very poor and not up to the required standard. Other guests told us to go to the Vale do Lobo Club and dine in the Spikes Restaurant, absolutely fabulous food. Transfers to and from the hotel and golf course by shuttle to the golf course always on time. Transfers to and from Airport were on time with a good standard of vehicle. A good company.

All good. The low season however means not everything is open, but generally excellent.

Quite brilliant as usual the hotel breakfast to die for lovely room superb hotel the course was in great nick as usual everything great I really recommend having a hire car than relying on the shuttle bus especially with morning tee times

Most of our group stayed in the older/tired rooms which were no where as good as my room.

We have stayed at this hotel for many years and we have always been pleased with the service. However, we found the restaurant had quite a limited menu. Very few people used the restaurant which begs the question Why?

The hotel is next to the Ocean, with a breautiful l’arte and sandy Beach. Our room was large, clean, and very comfortable, we were upgraded with a luxury room facing the golf course and the Ocean, with a balcony. Breakfast was super, we also had dinner three times at a reaonable price, about 35€ plus beverages. Very nice accomodation indeed

Well equipped room with a great view from the balcony. Loved watching the golfers and reading my book whilst relaxing on the balcony. Food in the bar and in the Kalim restaurant was excellent especially the BBQ . Staff very kind and friendly. Hotel well situated with the beach close by as well as shops and restaurants within walking distance. Shuttle bus to San Lorenzo useful for non golfers to have a change of scene.

Our rooms were a bit tired as awaiting renovation(5th floor)

Great value 5 star hotel great location

We had the old rooms again which are noisy and tired. Pool bar closed at 6 which made no sense and drink prices are excessive. Location is perfect

some problems with the mini bar and a noisy air conditioner, but in general a very good hotel

a beautiful setting and location and we were upgraded to a suite overlooking the pool and sea which was a fantastic room.Thank you!!hotel restaurant for breakfast was fine but the evening menu and atmosphere in the same restaurant was poor. the other a la carte restaurant was closed for refurbishment so we ate elsewhere for all meals except breakfast. great pool, lovely area and fabulous beach and sea.the staff were polite, attentive and very responsive in all areas...very good! Overall we had a great holiday

Have enjoyed stays at this Hotel for the past 30 years. What's so nice about this Hotel is that it has retained many of the staff that we first encountered 30 years ago, it's like meeting old friends.

Just makes do as a golf hotel. Hopeless for golfers grub Fantastic at charging ++,very meanly for room coffee, outdoor pool not heated. Buggies a must but 50 euro a throw. Great local restaurants but transport needed but not far. Breakfast and take away lunch first class.

Stayed in upgraded Superior Room with sea & golf course view. Very well setup for golfers with onsite parking & a club locker facility for hotel guests. Well trained, attentive staff provide a great service & overall experience at The Dona Filipa.

Rooms are very dated and certainly not 5* The organisation of the courtesy bus to San Lorenzo is poor. They have become complacent, we have been many times but will probably not go back until we hear of better reports. Very disapointed.

Excellent hotel every comfort you could wish for and a short walk to the beach. Every need was catered for. Staff very helpful. Our only criticism was the shuttle service from hotel to the golf course which ran far too infrequently and not many spaces, which prompted us to contact your company while we were away.

First class hotel. A lot of the rooms have been updated but we were in one of the old rooms which was no problem. The room was very good and spacious and the service was fantastic. Breakfast was a real treat with maximum choice including creamy porridge. Hotel were very good and even treated us to drinks in a cocktail hour. Only issue was asked to provide a fixed sum credit to use which I cannot understand why they simply use a credit card swipe on register like any other hotels. Doing a credit entails more transactions and possibly credit back which takes time and possibly exchange costs. I explained to a manager that this works against them and we used outside facilities rather than get involved. Other than this thoroughly recommend your golf travel and Dona Felipe.

Second time stay at Donna Filipa and can't fault the hotel. If any complaint it would be about the cost of drinks, a G&T cost €13, needless to say I went elsewhere to get my drinks.

The hotel is very nice although not quite 5 star. We stayed in the unrefurbished rooms and are a bit tired but perfectly acceptable. It's just a short walk to the bars and restaurants in Vale do Lobo which are a little quiet at the end of March. Vilamoura is much busier and a 20 euro taxi ride away.

Nice room overlooking the 17th at VDL a bit tired possibly, we weren't in the newly revamped section and some of the staff felt a bit "manana" if you know what I mean. Great spot though, met some interesting folk and had a good time, will go back.

Excellent hotel with helpful and friendly staff throughout

The Evening meal at the Hotel in the main restaurant was very poor quality. So much so that all six of us in our group complained to the Hotel management. Consequently we ate out on all the other evenings

We were extremely please with the beautiful pristine hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and they upgraded us to newly refurbished rooms which were excellent. We would definitely go back.

Great welcome and check in. Staff are friendly, professional and extremely helpful.Premium rooms are a must - super comfortable and well equipped. Very close to beach and selection of bars and restaurants. We would stay again but only on a bed and breakfast basis - plenty of restaurants within walking or short driving distance. Food in hotel restaurants apart from breakfast was disappointing.

Lovely hotel, really nice now it has been refurbished. Our room was traditionally furnished which I really liked rather than the usual rather bland modern decor. Beautiful tiles and Portuguese furniture. The breakfast was outstanding, such a good choice and constant attention from the staff. Best hotel buffet I've had for a long time. Just a shame no one south of Dover can do English bacon!! Joking aside, a lovely hotel, wonder location right on the beach, can't fault it.

Great breakfast to get the stay started. Heated outdoor swimming pool. Lovely staff, always most helpful with everything.

A good fun hotel in a good position.

Spacious double room, with large comfortable bed. Cleaned daily, with towels replaced twice each day if required.

We were in some of the old rooms which are in need of some modernisation. I think it needs to be made clearer when booking about the difference in the rooms. Some of our party upgraded and were expecting the refurbished rooms and were disappointed when they had the old rooms with a slightly better view. They couldn’t be called ‘superior’. The hotel was as always very relaxing with excellent service in a great location.

Elegant and stylish reception. Luxurious room and lovely view of the golf course and sea. Tea making facility was useful too.

Hotel exceptionally well run. Great outdoor pool area and within easy walking distance to a very good classical Algarve beach with hotel beds on the beach too at no charge. Hotel free bus to its golf courses, so just be on your game an organist your transport 1 day in advance.

The hot breakfast was always cold and not the best of quality Although the quality of the cold buffet was a lot better. Quality of the staff in the restaurant was good. The drinks were very expensive staff very poorly trained The Irish coffee was the worst we ever had, entertainment to loud the size of room

The most interesting holes are around the lake, because of the views.

San Lorenzo was a fair test and a great layout.

The most challenging hole is the 8th par 5.

Hotel has been recently upgraded (did need it). San Lorenzo is a great course all year round with dramatic closing holes.

6, 7, 8, 17 & 18 are all great holes with water - commit to the shot and take plenty of club. I was short on my approach shots quite a lot. The hotel is great and even better now it has been refurbished. Staff very friendly.

18 was my favourite hole.

Fabulous golf course, the best in my opinion in the Algarve. The hotel is fine, I believe they are upgrading, so should be even better.

The hotel was very good and the 6th and 7th holes were just beautiful.

The holes by the estuary are great, you need to play the course a couple of times to get the feel for it.

Super course. On the 3rd round, I birdied 4 holes in a row, something which I have never done before... Alas I still paid the money out.

The 4th hole is my favourite. Drive from a high tee position, not too far or you're in the sea. Dare you cut the corner and risk losing your ball? Don't slice your second shot or you're in the sea.

Hotel great with fabulous breakfast, just enjoy a great course.

Excellent venue for golf and accommodation. Hotel looks after clubs and arranges for transfer to buggies before your game. Excellent breakfast with a fantastic chefs omelette. A number of excellent holes with water in play.

Great course, especially the stretch by the water. Hit it straight and you'll score well. Great greens. Hotel was great, restaurant superb, especially breakfasts.

Beautifully located hotel near an excellent beach, top class golf course, and good restaurants close by equals a great holiday. 

San Lorenzo is a great course but one that is now getting dated and because it is played predominantly as a "resort course" there are a lot of people playing the course who are not golfers so it is slow to get around.

Golf break was good value for money - took friends who stayed and played for the first time and look forward to returning.

Great stay but a bit noisy when the nightclub comes out in early hours.

The Hotel was good and the 18th on Vale de Lobo was good.

All holes need thought and careful strategy to play them well - great experience.

Altos and any in Val Do Lobo area is my type of golf.

All the holes around the water were fantastic. Bring your A game. The hotel was finishing its refurbishment but still quality.

San Lorenzo is a top quality layout. A driver isn't required until the 8th, with accuracy from the tee being of greater importance. Holes 6, 7, 10, 13 and 18 are my favourites. The 10th is the best driving hole and 18 is a really good finishing hole.

There are few weak holes on this course and you'll love the quality of the maintenance. Believe in the yardages and just remember that they are measured in metres! (Plus 10%) The Hotel is very comfortable and still reflects the glory days of when it was built, so be kind to it!

The Hotel was first class. Great staff.

All of the holes are good. Aim for right side of fairway on most holes. Play early as you get an easy run. The hotel is excellent - good room service, mattresses and pillows which lots of hotels do not have. Bus runs to golf course every 40 minutes.

San Lorenzo was great. Varied course, some hills-drops, generous fairways. Val de Lobo is a must play. Royal had a fantastic 16th over the beach-ravine par 3. Off season local shops not open. Need a car or taxi for decent restaurants. Hotel renovation offer for foods at SL Club was great.

All 18 were excellent holes. Hotel very nice!

Course as always is a joy, would be my choice for a last ever round. Hotel good but bedrooms a little tired, but will not stop us returning.

Best holes were round the beach. 6 & 7 and 16 & 17 were great with plenty of wildlife to see.

The hotel was double booked.

Hotel was very nice, good course to play 2 or 3 times during a visit.

San Lorenzo is my favourite course of all. Unfortunately I was not paired with anyone on two of the occasions during the week which was disappointing. 

Good course and great hotel with lots of very good restaurants nearby, do not need a car.

San Lorenzo and Pinheiros Altos are superb courses and well worth playing.

The 6th was fantastic with a drive over the corner.

Beautiful course and weather - a true test.

Favourites were 5, 6, 7, 8. Hotels good but needed a do up.

Now that I can play San Lorenzo and Pinheiros Altos in the package it is more interesting. I can then add a twilight in Val de Lobo and have three courses in the seven days. The hotel is always welcoming. The staff are not changing often so they remember the guests and greet you as old friends.

Best holes were 6th, 7th and 18th on San Lorenzo.

The course is the star here - I think the hotel rooms could do with an upgrade. But I would rather that way round.

Hotel dated but still ok. Ideally placed for playing San Lorenzo or the Vale de Lobo courses and right next to Montys for a great night out. San Lorenzo is a fantastic course offering a great challenge for golfers of all abilities. Several holes require length off the tee, however some of the longer holes have narrow fairway targets or doglegs which means it's not necessarily a driver off the tee at the par 5's. Water comes into play on a number of holes and 18 in particular has you driving down the left of a small lake to leave yourself a wedge across more water to the green. Well worth a visit for the hole alone.

A beautiful and well kept course, definitely the best in the Algarve. Quaint clubhouse, and the hotel was nice and clean but in my opinion is starting to look a bit dated. All the staff were really helpful and friendly.

I thought the Montgomery course was superb, especially when they were playing the Turkish open on it.

San Lorenzo was in good condition, with fast greens and playing relatively easy as long as my drives were straight! The Dona Filipa was fine but we did not have one of the refurbished rooms which was disappointing. The staff were very attentive but it was a long walk from the bedroom to the breakfast restaurant and swimming pool.

A stunning picturesque course with many challenging holes, especially the par 5 8th, the par 4 18th, and the par 4 6th. All need thoughtful club selection and positioning of shots.

We really enjoyed all of the Pestana courses. The villa we had was lovely and we were made welcome at all the venues. Perfect for a Portuguese golf holiday.

17 was an excellent hole.

18th was my favourite hole.

Played this golf course many times and its always a pleasure and a challenge.

1st is a dog-leg left, play for the middle of the fairway. The hotel was/is first class.

Loved the holes close to the water. Hotel adequate when we visited. The rooms were a good size but generally rather tired. We were however, told that a renovation programme was being started.

We find all the holes very challenging. However, we all love San Lorenzo and the Dona Filipa Hotel and although we are all in our seventies we hope to make a trip next autumn.

A course I never tire of playing. Second nine is more difficult to score on. Sixth to nine great holes. Always in great condition.

I think holes four, five and ten where fair tests.

You have to be a confident golfer to play San Lorenzo near your handicap allowance, holes near the sea can be demanding due to wind strength and accuracy will be rewarded more than distance. Enjoy it, it's quite unique!

May limit the golf at San Lorenzo and maybe drive to Penina. Pinheiros Altos was disappointing.

Great hotel, good location. Superb golf at San Lorenzo and Quinta.

There are few courses in the world which offer so many holes with outstanding views as well as quality fairways and greens. Each hole has different challenges with water coming into play on many. The 18th is as tough a finishing hole as you will find. The hotel is newly refurbished with good food. The adjacent private beach is pristine and the location is ideal.

Good hotel, the course is fun to play and a good test of golf

Favorite hole is the 18th. Take plenty of balls and enjoy yourselves. Insect repellent would be good. 

The course is outstanding and varied. The rooms in the hotel are tired and in need of upgrading. Would happily go back but maybe stay elsewhere.

The holes along the beach side are fabulous. Not too penal off the tee but plenty of challenge. Great course!

My Caddy Tip - "Enjoy it."

I have been staying at Dona Filipa and playing San Lorenzo since the early years when golf was free if you stayed at the hotel. Sadly those days are long gone but I am regularly drawn back to the area. The course is always in great condition and although not the longest by modern standards the difficulty more than makes up for it. Some very challenging holes and outstanding scenery make this a venue not to miss.

A very nice drive down to the beach. The Hotel is fine and they looked after us very well. My favorite hole is the 17th.

Really good hotel and challenging course for a high handicapper but very enjoyable.

Hotel was fabulous, had a free a la carte dinner on our last night our golf was average but we can't blame the courses for that.

My wife and I had a nice break at Doña Filipa for our Silver Wedding Anniversary. Hotel was lovely, although not quite as plush as we expected. The shuttle between the hotel and golf course was a bit hit and miss. Some people ended up getting taxis to the course as bus filled up very quickly. Would definitely go there again.

Definitely worth playing it twice as you learn do much from the first round. I was 6 shots better on day 2 even after beer.

Hole 6, par 4 dog leg left off a high elevation tee has great views over the estuary / bird sanctuary.

The 18th is a great hole!

First few holes are good openers to settle you down, from the 6th on you know you are playing in a special place.

5th - 8th, 17th & 18th are fantastic holes. 

Great for families/golfers/couples. Have been over 20 times and never disappointed.
