DoubleTree by Hilton York

Right, if you want to stay central in York but still keep your golf plans simple, DoubleTree by Hilton York is a handy shout. It sits by the historic City Walls with Monk Bar right there, and you're about a 10-minute walk from York Minster, The Shambles and York's Chocolate Story. It's the sort of base that works for a quick golf weekend, especially if your group wants a decent bar, an easy stroll into town for food and a comfortable bed after 36 holes.

The location makes it straightforward to reach quality parkland golf within easy reach of the city. Forest of Galtres, York Golf Club and Fulford are all a manageable drive from the hotel, depending on traffic and your tee time. You're close enough to walk into the centre for dinner, but far enough from the busiest streets to get a decent night's sleep before an early start.

Who is this for?
Golfers who want a central York base with reliable rooms, on-site food and a quick walk to bars and restaurants once the clubs are back in the boot.

Who is it best for?
Couples and small groups doing a long weekend who want to play one or two courses nearby and make the most of York in the evenings, without faffing about with taxis across town.

Accommodation at DoubleTree by Hilton York

The hotel offers 143 air-conditioned rooms, each fitted with a flat-screen HD TV, work desk and safe. Rooms are functional rather than huge, but for most golfers there's enough floor space to keep a travel cover and your kit out of the way. Everything you need to unwind after a round is there, and the layout is sensible enough that you're not tripping over bags or struggling to find somewhere to hang wet waterproofs.

Complimentary WiFi runs throughout the property, so you can check tee times, course yardages or simply catch up on emails from your room. There's also a fitness centre on-site if you want to loosen up before heading out to play or work off a heavy meal. It's nothing fancy, but it does the job if you're the sort who likes to stretch out after a long day on the fairways.

Dining is covered at The Yorkshire Bar and Grill, where you'll find regional dishes and a menu built around local ingredients. It's a solid option for an evening meal without needing to leave the hotel, particularly if you've had a long day on the course and can't be bothered hunting for a table in town. The Orangery Bar serves cocktails and lighter bites, and every guest is greeted with a freshly baked DoubleTree Cookie on arrival, a small touch that sets the tone for the stay.

The hotel works well for golfers who want easy access to the city's restaurants and pubs after a day on the fairways, and for groups combining golf with sightseeing or a weekend away. If you're planning to play a couple of rounds and spend the evenings exploring York's food scene or just having a few pints by the Minster, this is a practical base that keeps logistics simple. You're not stuck out in the countryside with nothing to do once you've finished your round, but you're also not in the thick of the stag-do chaos on a Friday night.

For societies or small groups, the combination of central location, on-site facilities and straightforward access to nearby courses makes this a sensible choice. You can keep everyone together in one hotel, walk into town for dinner, and still be on the first tee at Forest of Galtres or Fulford without an early alarm feeling like a punishment. It's the sort of setup that just works, especially if you want to keep things hassle-free and focus on the golf rather than the logistics.

This hotel was a great location, but the room was old and the toilet didn't work. There wasn't much parking on site, we were lucky and we got the last spot. The staff was telling me to drive my car and park a different open air lot (which I didn't want to do with a new car.)
