The West Course has a habit of surprising people.

Although it actually stretches slightly further than the East from the back tees, it plays very differently. The West Course is packed with memorable holes, but the par-5 12th is one you'll be talking about long after the final putt drops.
Horsted Creek shadows the hole almost from tee to green, becoming more influential with every shot. Longer hitters may be tempted to attack the green in two, but careful decision-making is often the wiser route, with water guarding the approach and distinctive American-style mounding protecting the left-hand side.

Overall, the golf courses themselves are lovely, well maintained and genuinely enjoyable to play. Unfortunately, the experience away from the course really let the hotel down, and because of that we wouldn’t return. Dining Dinner was particularly disappointing. The waiting staff themselves were fine, but despite our meals being pre-ordered, it took around 90 minutes for the mains to arrive. When they eventually came, the portions were very small and, worse, the food was very cold. The meals appeared to be plated and then placed onto a trolley while the remaining dishes were prepared. When you’re serving a table of around 10 people, this seems to mean the first meals plated are sitting around getting cold rather than being kept properly heated. Whatever the reason, after waiting 90 minutes, receiving cold food was simply not good enough. Breakfast, however, was a completely different experience. There was a good selection, everything was nicely presented and we really enjoyed it. Breakfast was significantly better than dinner. Hotel Bar Unfortunately, the service at the hotel bar was also poor. We found the staff rude, extremely slow and lacking basic customer-service skills. It often felt as though serving guests was an inconvenience rather than part of the hospitality experience. We were also surprised by the pricing of Baileys. A standard serving is 50ml, yet we were charged the price of a double. At hotel-bar prices already, this felt excessive. Pro Shop The welcome in the Pro Shop wasn’t much better. We found the service unwelcoming and, at times, bordering on rude/arrogant. Charging £7.50 for just 35 range balls also felt incredibly expensive and very difficult to justify. Golf Bar One of the strangest decisions is that the golf bar closes to non-members at 6pm. After finishing your round, you’d naturally expect to be able to sit down with your group, have a drink and enjoy the clubhouse atmosphere. Instead, if you’re staying at the hotel, you have to pack all your golf equipment away and then make the roughly 10-minute walk back to the hotel bar. It might sound like a small thing, but it really takes away from the atmosphere and the overall golf-day experience. Having a drink together after the round is part of the day, and effectively being moved out of the golf bar at 6pm completely kills that vibe. Overall The frustrating thing is that the golf itself was excellent. We really enjoyed the courses and found them fun to play. Unfortunately, virtually everything surrounding the golf — dinner, bar service, the Pro Shop experience and the arrangements after your round — fell well below what we expected. It’s a shame because the courses would give us a reason to return, but the overall hospitality experience gives us a reason not to. Lovely golf courses, but unfortunately we won’t be coming back.

Upgraded to a balcony room. Just beware when doing this you are unable to have access to the outside without calling housekeeping every time you wish to go into the balcony. The hotel have lost too many keys to the balcony doors so do not allow guests to have one. We found this a big negative point as took 15 minutes every time for someone to appear. Tip….get a load of keys cut!!!
