Girvan Golf Club sits on Scotland's south west coast and it is home to one of the most picturesque views in golf. On a clear day you're looking straight out to Ailsa Craig, the granite dome that rises from the Firth of Clyde, which makes for a memorable backdrop as you work your way round.
The golf is a genuine hybrid. You'll find links-style stretches where the air feels saltier and the breeze has a say in club selection, then more sheltered, parkland-feeling holes as the layout turns inland. That mix keeps the round interesting for mixed-ability groups, with plenty of variety in the shots you'll be asked to hit and the scenery you'll play through. It's a friendlier introduction to coastal golf than some of the more brutal links, especially when you find a bit of shelter inland.
Girvan itself began as a fishing port and still has that working harbour character. Around the waterfront you'll find a good spread of local restaurants, cafés and shops, so it's an easy base for a short break. It's also a handy stop on a wider south west Scotland run if you're building a multi-course itinerary and want a coastal day without the full championship links punishment.

Measuring just over 5,000 yards, Girvan is modest in length, however consistent accuracy & good club selection are key to a good score in a beautiful setting.
The first eight holes alongside the coast line provide a challenging test on a windy day, followed by ten lush parkland holes which contrast beautifully in a region which is well-renowned for a unique golf experience.

Girvan is an interesting short course, a mix of links and parkland style holes with some great views. Some scruffy areas with cut grass left behind, and thick semi rough just off some fairways, council run so you get what you pay for. Enjoyed and would return.
