Fairfield House Hotel sits right on Ayr's seafront, with the beach in view and the Firth of Clyde stretching out towards the Isle of Arran. If you like your golf breaks with a bit of sea air, it's a cracking setting, calm, coastal and close enough to town that you're not stuck in the middle of nowhere after your round.
For golfers, the big draw is how easy it is to get around Ayrshire from here. You've got a deep bench of courses within a short drive, with Open Championship names like Royal Troon, Prestwick and Turnberry all on the map for a multi-course itinerary. Western Gailes, Dundonald Links and Gailes Links are all within 20 minutes, and you can reach Barassie, Irvine and Kilmarnock Barassie without much faff either. It works especially well for groups and societies who want a central base and minimal hassle between rounds, rather than bouncing between hotels.
Back at the hotel, the feel is classic and comfortable rather than flashy. Rooms range from standard doubles to sea-view options and suites, and the sea-view rooms are the ones to ask for if you fancy waking up to Arran on the horizon. There's also an AA Rosette restaurant for a proper sit-down meal, plus a pool and spa area that's ideal for loosening up after 18, or 36 if you've overdone it. After a windswept day at Troon or Prestwick, the sauna and steam room are exactly what you need.
If you're putting together an Ayrshire golf trip and want a dependable base with seaside character, Fairfield House makes a lot of sense. The location gives you quick access to championship golf without long transfers, and the hotel itself feels like a retreat rather than just somewhere to sleep between rounds.

Fairfield House has 44 guest rooms, finished in a comfortable mix of traditional style and modern touches. Options include standard doubles, executive rooms, sea-view rooms and honeymoon suites, so you can keep it simple for a mates' weekend or go a bit bigger for a special trip. Many rooms feature walk-in digital showers with rainfall heads, which is a welcome upgrade after a windswept day on the links.
If budget allows, the sea-view rooms are the standout. The views across the Firth of Clyde towards Arran are the sort you actually notice, even when you're thinking about that three-putt on 18. They also give the stay a seaside break feel, not just a golf stopover. The rooms themselves offer the kind of comfort and space you want after a long day battling the wind on a links course, with enough room to spread out your gear and actually relax.
Food-wise, the AA Rosette restaurant offers a relaxed dining set-up with the menu leaning into Scottish classics with a modern touch, plus a well-chosen wine list. It's smart enough for couples and easy enough for groups who want to sit down together and replay the day's damage. The setting is relaxed enough for a post-round debrief without feeling overly formal, and the quality is a step above standard hotel fare. On a decent evening, the terrace is a lovely spot for a cocktail as the light drops over Arran, and it's exactly the kind of wind-down you want after walking 36 holes.
For downtime, the hotel's leisure facilities include a fitness centre, swimming pool, spa bath, sauna and steam room. For most golfers, that's exactly what you want between rounds, a swim, a steam and a stretch, then you're ready to go again. The facilities are practical and well set up for a golf break, particularly welcome after walking the undulating fairways at Troon or the exposed stretches at Prestwick. If you're building a package, this is the kind of hotel that keeps the whole group happy, golfers, non-golfers and anyone who fancies a bit of recovery time.
The hotel also offers secure club storage and ample parking, which matters when you're juggling early tee times and multiple courses across a long weekend. Breakfast timing is flexible enough to accommodate morning starts, and the staff understand the rhythm of a golf trip, which makes the whole experience smoother. Everything you need is here, the location puts you minutes from some of Scotland's finest courses, and the hotel itself feels like a genuine seaside retreat rather than a stopover.
Include Fairfield House Hotel on your next Ayrshire Golf Break and we'll build the tee times around the courses you fancy.
