The R&A used Gailes Links as Scotland’s only final Open qualifying course up until 2017.

He allowed the natural heather and gorse to grow in and make the course a simple but very demanding proposition.
As a known favourite of Scottish great Sandy Lyle, and rated in Golf Monthly's Top 100, Gailes Links is traditional Ayrshire links golf at its best.
A lovelly course and historical club house. Staff super friendly and really looked after us. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed this one, we played late in the afternoon so was like playing millionaires golf having the course nearly to ourselves. The staff were brilliant and made a real effort to make sure we were made welcome. Thanks to the bar staff who kept the bar open until we got back. Great course and set up.
Another great links course
A little more forgiving than some of the other courses in the area. Nevertheless, many very interesting holes and extremely well presented. The greens and fringes were superb.
Pleasant
Very windy and it rained for almost all of the round. Conditions were hard but the greens were true and staff very friendly.
Beautiful location and course layout. Enjoyed the open links experience. Practice area superb. Food very tasty. All helped by exceptional Scottish weather.
What a special place this is. The history and class just pours out. An amazing welcome when we arrived too. A must visit for any golfer heading up the west coast
Great course good staff
Nice friendly course immediately next to Gailes Hotel. Not as good as Prestwick, Troon etc but a good initial warm up. We were told we were not allowed to use the members bar so had to sit on our own in a different room which was disappointing.

Gailes made us very welcome from the outset. The Pro was very helpful, and made us feel at home straight away. The staff also looked after us well. The course is a gem. It is a fair test of golf, and accurate play is rewarded by being able to score. Gailes is well worth a visit, and will look after you.
