Golf De Reims cannot be described as a championship standard course, but it is well worth playing as it provides an evocative mix of strategic and penal challenges that will keep you on your toes from start to finish.
The 6,600-yard, par-72 golf course was founded back in 1928 and its maturity shows through, with high quality putting surfaces and great conditioning of tees and fairways.
Set in the beautiful surroundings of the 15th century Chateau des Dames, which has housed several French royals in its time, accuracy from the tee is required to hit the tree-lined fairways, but if you hit your drives well you will enjoy approach shots to large and generally excellent greens. After your round, the moated chateau clubhouse is a wonderful spot to enjoy lunch and have a glass or two of the local produce.
Speaking of which, there are dozens of Champagne houses in the area, including the likes of Moet, Taittinger, Ruinart and Mumm, who open their doors to the public and offer excellent tours.
The course is located in a sleepy village under 10 minutes from Reims, the capital of Champagne and a past capital of France brimming with history, elegant avenues, magnificent buildings and manicured public gardens. All in all, this course provides a very pleasant game of golf for beginners and experts alike.
