Half Moon

Set on 400 acres with two miles of beachfront, Half Moon is the kind of Jamaican resort you can happily base yourself at for a full week, especially if your group has a mix of golfers and non-golfers. The headline is the Robert Trent Jones Sr. 18-hole championship course, but it's not a 'golf at all costs' set-up. You've got award-winning dining at the Sugar Mill, one of the Caribbean's largest spa facilities at Fern Tree, tennis under lights, an equestrian centre, a proper gym and plenty of water sports on the doorstep.

If you're the type who likes a slick routine, it's simple: early tee time, a lazy beach afternoon, then dinner without having to think about taxis or planning. And if you're travelling with family, the on-site kids' facilities make it easier to actually relax between rounds.

Want to compare it with other top regional stays? See our guide to the best golf resorts in the Caribbean.

Accommodation at Half Moon

Rooms and suites sit close to the sea, with patios or balconies looking over gardens, pools or the Caribbean. It's an easy stroll, or a quick bike ride, to the course, spa and restaurants, which is handy if you're trying to squeeze in breakfast before a morning tee time. The constant breeze off the water keeps things comfortable without relying entirely on air conditioning, and the layout means you're never waiting for a shuttle or navigating a sprawling property just to get from your room to the first tee.

Suites add separate living areas and larger balconies, while selected villas come with private pools, full kitchens and dedicated staff. If you're travelling as a group or family, the villas make sense. They give you the space to spread out and the privacy to relax without feeling like you're constantly in a hotel corridor.

Dining centres on the Sugar Mill, an 18th-century stone building that's been converted into an award-winning restaurant. The menu focuses on Caribbean ingredients and flavours, with an emphasis on fresh seafood and locally sourced produce. Beyond the Sugar Mill, the resort offers several other dining options, from casual beachside grills to poolside bars, so you're not eating in the same spot every night.

The Fern Tree Spa is a major draw. As one of the largest spa facilities in the Caribbean, it offers everything from traditional massages and facials to hydrotherapy, yoga pavilions and overwater meditation bungalows. If you're planning a longer stay or bringing non-golfers, the spa gives you a genuine reason to take a day off the course without feeling like you're wasting time.

The fitness facilities are above average for a golf resort. The gym is modern and well equipped, the Spinning studio runs daily classes, and the tennis courts are floodlit for evening play. If you're the sort of golfer who likes to stay active off the course, or if you're travelling with someone who doesn't play but still wants structured fitness options, Half Moon delivers.

Water sports include kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling and sailing, all available directly from the beach. The equestrian centre offers trail rides along the coast and through the estate grounds, which is a nice change of pace if you're staying for more than a few days and want to see the property from a different angle.
